It has often been suggested that rural policemen should be mounted on bicycles, but few expected that the bicycle's usefulness would be demonstrated in a manner so unpleasant to the cyclists. The all-power- ful Robert is capturing offending cyclists wholesale simply by using a bicycle himself. Ignoring the injustice which has been indicted all cyclists of late, the adaption of the bicycle by a section of the rural police shows how useful a well-trained and well- equipped cycle-mounted police force would be. The country roads could be traversed more frequentlv, ani robberies and assaults by the way would diminish in number. j I HENRY P RR, Deceased. LOCAL NOTES. I-
LOCAL NOTES. The directors of the L. & N. W. Ry. Co. have definitely decided that the open- ing of the new station, at Llandudno Junction, shall takb place on Nov. ist. One of our local public men has been in communication with the chairman of the company with the abject of pointing out the advantages of" arranging a public opening by either oije of the magnates of the railway world, pr an influential local gentleman. If this suggestion is followed it will be the meatus of informing large numbers of visitors, to Llandudno, who now, not unreasonably, complain of ihe delay at the Llandudno junction, that in future this will i>e {iiverced, and trains horn Liverpool, Majvchtster, Birmingham, and other places Iwill be run direct to this town withouS the annoyance and inconvenience of changing. LI :is should prove an event of nc*, small importance to the residents, as it'' will enable in business men to enjoy a brief week-end holiday at Llandudpo, and thus contribute considerably to its prosperity and develop- ment. Colwyn Bay during the past years has made steady progress, and its efforts to attract visitors within its borders have been particceessf111 during the past seaspft", which^s^he most prosperous they ha.ý'e ver kno The improve- '00 ments fhat hive l>een ejected and those conteinpiatec, in th £ immediate future are hardl^'realist d by WE authorities at Llan- dudn^, .^who. evid^ptly t^ink the claims ol thll l^tle1 ^lardh^ worthy of their superior ft%i e. reatei- part of the prom'^aade completed, and now negotiations!are i|i progress for further e exteni^ig if to tffe Colwvn Bay Hotel. At Clandudno we have only one, and still, notwithstanding many com- plaints from visitors through the Press '\II and to the Promenade Inspectors, no pro- vision has beeti.,iiiade in the yearly esti- mates for tHse absolutely necessary buildings. Supply it is time for our Llan- dudno represeftatives to awaken from their Rip Vai^Winkle-like sleep on this subject. H We notice Jfhat this year's annual tea meeting and eptertainment in connection with Christ ;Church (English Congre- gational) has peen fixed for Wednesday, the loth of November. I
LIST OF VISITORS. -
LIST OF VISITORS. IMPORTANT NOTICE. Our house-to-house collection of the visitors' names has now ceased for the season. If, however, the proprietors of hotels, boarding- find lodging houses will send np their list of visitors to the office every Tuesday through- out the autumn and winter, they will be published in our columns each week. The publication of a list during the winter, will, undoubtedly act as a good advertisement for the town generally, as well as for the various houses and hotels individually • We therefore, desire to impress these facts upon oar readers and ask their co-operation. A sensational paragraph appeared in the majority of the inorning and evening papers relating how a iJr. Howard Paget while driviu<r in jlJS pjieiim itic-tvred I brougham met with severe injuries through one of the tyres collapsing. The general public might have accepted the report as true, but to the experienced cyclists such a result must have appeared impossible, and it was in order to verity it that enquiries were made which brought to light that the whole case was a myth. The Dally Tf/r./ra/i/ for oue, has dismissed the correspondent, who supplied the information. Carriage pneumatic tyres, if they should puncture, can be driven home without any fear of further damage, aud repaired at some future time.
