I LOCAL AMUSEMENTS '
I LOCAL AMUSEMENTS I THE COUNTY THEATRE. "Dick Whittingion," presented by Mr R. Nightingale, at the County Theatre, thu week, heatre, iiii,3 wee k possesses a-ll the ingredients w'KTch go to make up a successful pantomime. Thera is humour m -"bthtyl pit-(i that of t'he rk<h, var- iety the spectacular features are admirable, the dancing above the average, while the whole pro- duction is brightly "dressed." Small wonder therefore that the attendances have been large. The chief fun purveyor is Mr Tom Hulme, as "Idle Jack." Mr Hulme has previously appeared in Bangor, and made a big reputation wirelt he has t,"riii week fully maintained. There is no need for him to adopt extravagant methods to provoke laughter; -he has ft way of his own, and his appearance on the stage is a prcludo to hearty laughter. One of the funniest iteiru in the panto- mime is the singing of the giee party, who pro- duce some weird noises, more than one of them being "out of fecus." Though suffering from a. severe cold, Miss Olive Williams in the titular role sings with much effect, among other L'1mJgs, "We're Irish." Miss Gladys Jerome makes a winsome "Alice Fitzwarren, and Miss Ethel Wil- ford as "Fairy Sunshine'' sings very eweetiy. Tew and Lea, of the "Washingtub," produce un- limited fun, especially in their long-drawn out duet. "Sally in Our Alley." One member of the company ;ti ngs the inevitable "iiaisic'ii sowing shirts for soldiers," but hia ''gagging" is quite fre^h, and lie introduces a Rew tcngpue-twiitiing verse on "Nettie's neckties." Mr Bobby Gra- ham impersonates "Caroline the Cook," a.nd Geni a* "Thomas the Cat" deserves recognition. In fact the whole company was very competent, and the specialities introduced by J,;lhb and Jer- ome, Five Yorkshire Lasses, Geni (contortionist), and Bessie Knight added largely to the attrac- tiveness of the production. The pantomimo will be given to-night and three times to-morrow,—matinee at 2.30 p.m. with two performances in the Veiling at 6.30 and 9 o'clock. NEXT WEEK'S ATTRACTIONS. Next Monday, Tuesday, and Wedne&day, Misa Hilary Burleigh will present Oiiida's world- famous military drama, "Under Two Fla.ge." i There is a vary slronpr cast, Miss Burleigh up- pearing as "Cigarette." During the past week they have put in much gtrenuoiu work in physioal exerciser, platoon ili-ill, etc. On Easter Monday tho battalion marched to Penrhyn Park, Bangor, for a brigade concentration, as they set out, headed by their band, they presented a fine spectacle. Evi- dently the football team of the battalion wais in no way fatigued by the march for the, ddDatnd a local football team in the evening after a stiff game. The following appeared in tho Orders fol- lowing the concentration:—"The OX', is highly pleased with the steadiness of all ranks on parade. Ma>rch discipline on the road is, however, not 90 good as it might be." On Sunday night a sacred concert was given at t.ho Church Institute, when the band of the battalion played the following items:—Marino Artillery, "Poet and Peasant" (Suppe), and .iel,-ctiorm from" Maritana."
