SCOUTS' CORNER. Next Wednesday promises to be a red- letter day in the life of over two dozen Barmouth Boys. It is the day on which they are to be invested as fully pledged scouts. The ceremony will be performed by the District Commissioner (Jolonel Enthoven), supported by the President of the Barmouth Branch (Mr Thos. W. Piggott, J.P.) and the Committee. Should the leather be fine, the Investiture will take place at 2 BO p.m in the Council School Playground, but if unfortunately it should be wet it will be held in the Belle Vue Hall. Parents and friends of the boys are most heartily invited to be present to witness the decoration of a number of young lads, some of whom, if not all, are undoub. tedly destined to play an important part in the history of their country. Before being admitted into the full membership of the Boys Scouts Association, each individual has to fully understand and realize what is meant by his "honour." He then solemnly makes the following declaration :— 1 11 1 promise on my honour, I.To do my duty to my God and King. 2.—To help other people at all times. 3.To obey the Scout Law. A Barmouth gentleman, who is much interested in the Scout movement, told me this week of a conversation he had with one of the boys. He thought he would test the boy by placing tempta- tion in his way. The following dialogue took place :— Man.—Do you belong to the Boy Scouts ? Boy.—Yes Sir, but we are not quite Scouts yet. Man.—What good will it be to you ? Boy.—We promise to do a good turn every day. Man.—I left a parcel on the table in the Library, will you fetch it for me ? Boy.—Yes Sir. In a few minutes the boy returned with the parcel, when the man offered him twopence. The little would-be scout shook h'is bead and said, I did that as a good turn and will take nothing from you. Well done, little scout, I was highly delighted, not only at your upright manliness, but at your smartness, for no doubt you suspected that you were being tried. May I be allowed to make a very earnest and strong appeal to the public NOT to place temptations of this nature in the way of boys, for it is not always easy for them to discriminate between a good deed-a kindness for which they should receive no reward, and business errands for which fcbey are falJy entitled to receive pay.

Letters from the Front. We continue to receive letters from our brave boys at the Front, from many of Obich we are compelled to leave out passages in conformity witb strict warning from the Press Bureau, The many friends of Mr William Griffith, Vulcan Villa, will be pleased to know that he is progressing satisfactorily. I ¡ The following letter was received from Sergeant Edward Price, who was with him at the time when he was wounded Suvla Bay, I Nov. lltb, 1915. Dear Mr and Mrs Griffith,- I am sorry to inform you that your son,William,was wounded this morning. We were both in the same trench, just having finished breakfast, when he was picked off by a sniper, the bullet passing through the right arm, just above the mussel also through his nose. I im- mediately bandaged him and rendered first aid until stretcher bearers came up. To my great delight he cooly asked me for a cigarette, so I could see that it wai not so serious. He was able to walk down to the hospital, and from there he got on board a hospital ship bound for England. I daresay you will have beard about him before you get this letter, be asked me to drop you a line. We miss him very much, as he kept us all alive by his good singing. Anyhow, I hope that he will get better soon. You need not worry at all as it is not so serious. What is more it was an honourable wound whilst doing his duty for his King and Country. OUR WOUNDED ALLIES, Among the organisations for helping suf ferers in the war the Wounded Allies Relief Committee is doing a notable work. The scope of its operations in indicated by its title, and it works in the closest co-operation with the British and Allied Governments. It has placed thousands of wounded Belgians in hospitals and homes, and it extends support to a num- ber of institutions in France. A motor-ambu- lance unit is now on service with the Belgian Army, and a special appeal is made for help- ing forward the work in hospitals immedi- ately behind the firing line, where proper emergency treatment is invaluable in saving many lives. Other features of the work are the provision of training and employment homes for the disabled, the supply of artificial limbsl,' and the care of wounded on leaving hospita There is no other representative organisation which assists the sick, wounded, and crippled soldiers of all the Allies.
