CHRISTMAS GREETINGS TO OUR…
CHRISTMAS GREETINGS TO OUR ABSENT BOYS. Before this issue of the Advertiser will reach our boys in all corners of the Earth as well as on the wild ocean waves, another Christmas will have come and gone. This was the time when Peace on Earth and good- will towards men was proclaimed, and though the Prince of Peace has reigned in name among the nations of Europe for close upon two thousand years-yet these nations of professed Christians are in the throes of a, cruel relent- less war. Never before in the history of Barmouth, in common with every other part of our country, has so much gloom and anxiety filled the hearts of anxious parents, wives, children and friends, for the safety of dear ones who are far away from home. Neverthe- less, the darkest cloud has a silver lining. The certain know- ledge that so many of our brave and gallant boys, have willingly i and voluntarily sacrificed home and comfort and every thing that is dear to them in the world, in order to uphold the right, is a cause of untold comfort and pride to the dear ones left behind. Our religious, political and social liberty,—the safety of our women folk and children—the very existence of our glorious Empire was threatened by a cruel and unscrupulous foe, and the manner in which so many of our boys responded to the call of duty and offered their services in de- fence of their King and Country, reflects upon them undying credit. Already well over two hundred of the Barmouth men are serving with the colours in some capacity or other. A considerable quota hold honourable positions in our glorious Navy, while others serve in the Army in France, Egypt, India, Dardanelles, The Balkans, South Africa and other parts of the world. We greatly regret to reflect upon the heavy toll al- ready claimed by the God of War, some have been killed, some wounded, others are prisoners in the hands of the enemy, while the vast majority will have to spend their Christmas under arms and in the trenches. Do we who remain in our comfort- able homes, safe from the horrors of war and its suffering, realize to the extent we ought to, the debt we owe to our brave army, among whom our boys bravely take their stand. There is hardly an individual in the town who is not directly or indirectly con- nected with one or other of the boys. Do we realize how a' Christmas Card and a few words of cheer and comfort would help to gladden their hearts in the straightened circumstances they are in. Every one of us ought to send at least a letter, if we can- not afford a little parcel, to cheer the hearts of those who help to save us, and fight our battles for us. Barmouth boys whoever you may be, wherever you are, we "Greet" you in all sincerety. We hope that a lull will occur in your arduous duty, and that you will be given an opportunity for a silent communion of thought with those to whom you are so dear-those who are left in the old home, whose earnest and fervant prayers are for your safety. We are looking forward to the day when complete and final victory will be won, when Great Britain will be greater than ever, and when you will return home as conquering heroes, to receive a public welcome, which you will never forget, Under all conditions, Boys, be "British," and may God's bless- ing be upon you one and all.
