Business in the local market has ruled quiet to-day as might have been expected in view of the tone which has prevailed during the last few days. It becomes more evident every day that it is useless to expect any considerable flow of business during the current account owing to the absorbing interest of the election. Coal Shares have been very quiet again to-day. North's Ordinary have been done at 7% Albions, at 17 Cambrian Colliory Ordi- nary, at 10% Guest Keen Ordinary, at lis 9(1 premium; Tredegar A Shares, at 98 93, 9s 10à. and 10s Bfcyrmiey lien New Shares, at 46s aud 45 s Cd. At the close Albions were lower, at 17% and Rhvmney Iron New Shares Is, at 45s 6d. LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE, j LONDON, Wednesday. Money continued in very abundant sup- ply, and notwithstanding its being pay-day in the Consol Market there was only a moderate demand for accommodation, and iiUvalues over the night were freely lent in the afternooa at 1% to 2 per cent., whilst the large amount which fell due to the Bank of England was all repaid. In creased firmness prevailed in the Discount Market, chiefly due to the continued de- cline in New York Exchange and the con- sequent fears of gold exports to America in the near future, and brokers charged fully 4 per cent. for discounting best three months' bills. Berlin Private Discrmut further declined to 3% per cent. On the Stcck Exchange fresh business was again lilditecl, partly owing to its being a Jewish holiday to-day, and. markets showing no particular feature, prices mov- ing somewhat irregularly. British Funds, afcer being firmer, closed without change, due to fears of dearer money. Home Hail. way Stocks, however, with two or three exceptions, were again well supported, owing to the favourable traffic returns and the fine weather. Underground lines were somewhat offered. American Railways upened lower on the delay in the settle- ment of the anthracite coal strike, but later on prices rallied sharply on support irom the other side, and closed generally rather better on the day. Grand Trunk I Issues advanced, the traffic return being considered satisfactory. Mexican Railways ruled dull in spite of a fresh advance in the price of silver. Foreign Bonds have been firm, but neglected. South Africans were firm, but neglected. South Africans were quite neglected, and Westralians were dull i^,the absence of support. A feature in British Columbians was a relapse in Le Roi No. 2, chiefly on some profit-taking sales. The market for Home Government Securities closed quiet, Consols being un- changed on balance, at 98-^ for money, and 9311; for account. National War Loan was also unchanged on balance, at dis- count. WRECKS AND CASUALTIES. Special telegrams from Lloyd's Agents.) A San Francisco cablegram states that the United States steamer Columbia has been in collisoin with a coaster. The damage is serious, about six plates being bent or broken and other damage. Repairs will require about 10 days. A New York cablegram states thftt the British schooner Leonard Parker has put in dismasted aad badly damaged about her decks and will repair. A Port Said telegram states that the British steamer Einir grounded in going through the canal and afterwards sank in the siding at kilometre 152. Her foropeak is fail of water. 'The passage is free, but traffic 1 ia delayed, steamers having to haul past the vessel. A later tele- gram states that her forehold is full of water and the mamhold partly. Discharge of the goods in the mainhoid has been commenced. Steam pumps have been sent for and divers have been engaged. A Gr;¡,vescnCi telegram states tho steamer Zeta, from Campana, collided on Wednesday morn- ing with the steamer Mcsaba, from New York, which was anchored off Rosht-rville. The former had port quarter damaged and the latter port bow damaged. Both proceed to dock. Attempts have been made to float the steamers Benedict and Red Cross, before reported ashore at Galveston during the late hurricane, and have been uns necessful. The steamer Skipsea has docked at Cardiff with plates damaged on the starboard siùc. The schooner Agnes, from Belfast for Glasgow, foundered off Carsewall on Tuesday evening. Crew saved. The steamer Rydal Hall, from Barry, has arrived at Aura after being ashore on Mokha Shoal. She jettisoned about 50 tons of cargo, but sustained no apparent ¡1é\.magc. The yacht Etona, of London, while moored off Brightlingsea, was fouled by the barge Theodosia, and sustained considerable damage forward. A Gibraltar telegram states* that the British steamer Saxon has arrived with feed pipe broken or out of order. The British steamer Taff, from Baltimore for Genoa, encountered a heavy gale on September 18th and had dsck swept, lost boats, and sustained other sundry slight damages. A Philadelphia cablegram states that the steamer Eagle Point, previously reported in collision with the steamer Biela, is very badly da.nag"d and must dock for survey and repairs. Temporary repairs are not possible. A Bahia telegram states that the British steamer Highland Prince, from London for Monte Video, has put in with sickness aboard aud two deaths, the lir-t officer and one passenger. The captain is sick, also the cook—and one passenger. She will proceed to Ilha Grande Advices have been received that the steamer Florence as boon lost in the river Niger. The steamer Calchfaen, from Gar-st-on for Sligo, with his put into Mnvillo with a leak in her combustion chamber. The steamer Easdale. whilst discharging her cargo of coal, had a bolt in her combustion chamber blow out. The steam trawler Stork has dry docked at Dundee with three stem plates (hti11aged through collision with Newhaven pier. A Calmar t states that the Swedish schooner Amanda and the Swedish barque Edward, from Oscarshamn for London, with wood, have been in collision. Both are ù:J,m}¡P;3d. Advices have been raceived by cablo from New I York stating Lhitt the steamer Orizaba ha.s stranded on an uncharted reef near St. Michael's. No parti- culars are known. The Senator has been sent to assist. Memo.—The steamer above referred to is supposed to belong to the Pacitic Coast Steamship Co of San Francisco. A Baibadoes cablegram states that the second officer and four men missing from the British barque Primera, which was abitndollcd on August 4th, have been picked up and brought into Barbadoes. A Leith telegram states that<BI.TvI. torpe-do boats Mermaid and Cynthia were in collision on Tuesday in the North Sea. Tho Cynthia has bows smashed and is i-r aking. The Morniaid has stari/oard quarter knocked in, &c. Both have arrived at Leith for repairs.
