PUNISHED THREE YEARS AFTER THE OFFENCE. At Newport Town-hall on Wednesday, JobØ Wood, a fish-hawker, appeared to answer warrant charging him with having assaulted bis wife, Ellen Wood, in August, 1890. Mrs WOf? declared that on the occasion in question het husband beat her, and that he afterwards de- serted her and their child, a boy, who had been in the Caerleon Schools. Wood at Newport on Tuesday, and was then arrestee under the old warrant. Mrs Wood alleged tb»* her husband, when he left her, eloped with other woman, with whom he had since been liviw at Cardiff.—Wood did not deny the assault but stated that he could not live with his wii^ owing to her intemperate habits.
