A SPECIAL APPEAL FOR THE WELSH POOR. To the Editor of THE LONDON WELSHMAN." SIR,-At a time when there is so much being said and done on behalf of the unemployed and poor of London, I should like to bear testimony to the very excellent work that is being done, though quietly and unostentatiously, by Mrs. H. Edwards, of Wilton Square, and Mrs. T. Phillips, of Hendon, and other ladies, towards alleviating the distress amongst our own country- men and women in various, parts of London, more especially in the East End. At the invitation of Mrs. H. Edwards, I attended one of the meetings which are being held every other week at a Mission Hall in Poplar. There were between twenty and thirty wcmen there, who were all supplied with tea a -d bread and butter, and were then taught to make clothing for themselves, the materials being given to them free. The expression on their faces told sad tales; there were women who in their younger days had enjoyed the freedom of country life, having been brought up among the hills and valleys of Wales, but now, owing to some misfortune, are living in the most miserable hovels of this great city, penniless and on the verge of starvation. It is in the interests of these women that the ladies I have named and many others, including the Welsh missionaries, sacrifice much time and money. They are doing a great deal, but could do a lot more if they were provided with the necessary funds. Some of the wealthier Welsh residents in London are no doubt ready to contribute towards the general fund which has been started in response to the Queen's appeal, and as it is admitted that a very large percentage of the money subscribed will go towards the cost of distributing it, I venture to suggest that a special fund be opened for the benefit of the London Welsh poor, and that the subscriptions be entrusted to Mrs. H. Edwards and Mrs. T. Phillips who, with the assistance of Mr. Williams, the missionary who has also rendered splendid set vice, would no doubt kindly administer the funds amongst the hundreds of really deserving cases already known to them, and thus help to brighten many a home this coming Christmas. I enclose my mite of one guinea, and shall be glad if you can do anything further in the matter by means of your valuable paper. Yours faithfully, ANNIE PRICE. 69, Seymour-road, Harringay, N. [We most gladly publish the above appeal, and have forwarded Mrs. Price's cheque to the proper quarter. Any iurther contribution received by us for the same worthy purpose, will also be duly forwarded and acknowledged in our columns.ED.]
