LLEW LLWYFO AND THE GWRON." IN reply to the REV. JOSIAH THOMAS JONES, I beg to state that he teas not obliged to discharge me from his service in consequence of non-attendance to my duties." I am now about divulging' private affairs, which I never would have condescended to had not Mr. Jones's misrepresentations challenged me. A few weeks ago he came into my bedroom, at six o'clock in the morning, and ordered me to get up to write bills for the GWRON. I told him I could not do so, as I had already more work than I could perform. His reply was—"Well, I cannot afford to pay your present wages unless you keep the accounts and attend to the shop. Mac Ebrill used to write for the GWRON, translate club rules, read proofs, write the franks, &c., for 10s. per week, and find his own board and lodgings." I replied, I cannot do it. Give me notice to leave at the end of my six months' engagement." A notice I had; but the Rev. Thomas Price told me it was merely a means to get me to do more work. A few days before I left the office, Mr. Jones said that he would be happy to give me the best testimonial, which I flattered myseli' to deserve. Mr. Jones says, in the TELEGRAPH, as another reason why he discharged me, that I was "incompetent to read proojs" What a blockhead I am after having had six years' experience as a Welsh writer, and per- formed the offices of proof-reader, reporter, and editor, to the entire satisfaction of two employers, whose testi- monials to my competency I have now in my possession. But the public partly know what I can do, and I mean show, by-and-by, that my resources ar not yet exhausted. Mr. Jones said that I made repeated applications to be re-engaged. Yes, I did. I am not ashamed to own it. I found when I left his office that I should be for six or seven weeks without employment, and I was anxious to earn something in the meantime. Who can blame me for that ? No man who knows what it is to keep four children, with a poor, anxJous^^onaHnptive wife. Mr. Jones said, "IffiJPycegjqyf never be depended upon when most WlKx I read that charge, I said, "That is a direct lie!" Every man in the GWRON office will testify, at any time, thst they never were furnished so regularly with copy as within the last six months. It is true that I used to be frequently from home, because I was compelled to seek and accept en- gagements, such as to deliver lectures and give concerts, in consequence of my wages not being paid. My only financial resources, for many successive weeks, were money derived from such engagements. And although I used to be often from home, I invariably used to write copy at night, wherever I would be, and send it to Aberdare either by post or train, and always managed to be" back in time to read proofs. Mr. Jones said also, "As to the payments of Llew Llwyfo, I faithfully fulfilled my engagement with him." How could you, Mr. Jones, make such a statement? You never paid me a farthing. You know no more than JBuwch Shon Pirs how my "accounts stand. You and your worthy Son are in total darkness respecting your affairs. You are groping in thick, unpenetrating mist. You shrink from facing every creditor. All is left to poor Mrs. Jones, than whom a better woman never breathed. Had you her courage and pluck, you would now be able to meet every demand. She did all in her power to fulfil your engagement with me, and used to pay by instalments of lOs., 28. 6d., Is., and 6d. If you doubt 'this assertion, I shall publish a ,'statement of all payments made to me since the 15th of June last. Will you allow me ? Not a man in the office has been fully paid within the last six months; and some were obliged to leave because they could not get their wages. I ob- tained from Mrs. Jones 20s. to go to North Wales a few weeks back. The journey, to and fro, cost me upwards of £ 5, and yet the ;morning following my return I was atsqed the loan of 5s. My wife was detained here for three weeks longer than her intention, because I could get no money to pay her way back, although a large sum was due to me. When she called to the office for a promised pound, SHE WAS OFFERED 5s. Mr. Jones said I was in his debt when "discharged." He is, at the present moment, Y,2 Is. 9d. in my debt, and would have been many pounds more had I not have given him some printing jobs to liquidate it. To-day, Monday, January 11th, MRS. JONES called at my lodgings to ask for my bill. It is now sent in, and if not paid this week, it must be settled in the County Court. No more this week. Yours, &c., LEWIS W. LEWIS.
