CORRESPONDENCE. 1
CORRESPONDENCE. 1 KINDLY WARNING TO THE I SAILORS' AND SOLDIERS' ASSOCIATION. To the Editor of the "Barry Dock I News." Sir,—Is there any great obstacle, during the summer months, to a few of the motor buses or char-a-bancs running on Sundays, for a town of the size of Barry, which is strangely backward in this respect. We ought to have two or three on the road on Sundays, and a lift for the many thou- sands of people to the Island and Pebble Beach would be welcome, par- ticularly to the aged and children. I hope something will be done in this matter. I am sorry to hear that the local Federation of Discharged Soldiers and Sailors have declined to take part in the Proclamation of the "Gorsedd" on 18th June. Why, I do not know, and my informant does not know. I wonder if the officials of this Federa- tion realise that the Welsh people of Barry are liable to take a serious view of their action. They may take it as a direct flouting of Welsh ideals.. As a Welsh resident of Barry I say I am sorry for this. The National Eistedd- fod is all the world to the Welsh. I ? expect it is too late now to alter the decision of the Federation, but I beg this powerful local association not to hold aloof from matters of this sort, for that road leads to disaster for all their work.—Yours, etc., Barryite." W HA i a RE GLR COUNCIL- L. -i 1 DGVl' I LORS DOING? To the Editor of the "Barry Dock I News. I 1 ews. Sir,-—I was impressed with the let- ter which appeared in the Barry Dock News last week from Widowed Mother and Ratepayer." She points out the grave danger and scandal which is sure to occur if the District Council persists in its scheme of Maternity Hospital. I know my poorer sisters in town full well. They will not leave their home and their family to strangers, even under such circumstances, and I am surprised the District Council did not take the pre- caution to obtain a vote of our married women before they rushed into a scheme which I believe is certain to be a failure. I am informed that the Council is about acquiring the building in Dock- Vew-road, whch has been used dur- ing the war as Red Cross Hospital, for the double purpose under one roof of Maternity Hospital and Lying-in Ward for Cases of Venereal Disease. Surely this cannot be true. But, lest it should be true, may I ask every member of the Council, What has become of your sense of human de- cency ? Another Mother and Ratepayer.
