I SOUTH WALES. Aberystwith.—We are given to understand that aD elegant memorial window has been raised to the memory of the late Miss Pritchard of this town, a most charitable lady. She and her sister were the founders of Pen- park and Borth schools. "THERE IS A GOOD Time Coming.We are glad to state that the Manchester and Milford Haven Railway h;i.s been commenced near Pantmawr, near Llangurig. Ystkydgynlais.—Last week, the new church at this phce was opened. The Bishop of St. David's preached, and several other eminent clergymen. The cost of this church amounted to £2000. Bedwellty.—Last week, a vestry meeting was heli at this church, for the purpose of making a church rate. The show of bauds was taken for the rate, which was Paid to be iigainst it, and the rector demanded a poll. A large majority was declared for the rate. The best feel- ing existed between the different parties. Llansadwkn.—On the 25th and 26th ult., a clerical meeting was held at this church. Eloquent sermons were preached by the Revds. J. Hughes, L'an lovery, D. Lloyd Isaac, Llangathen, Evans, Llaudyoie, Jones, Neath, and Davies, Gwynfe. Cardiff—The Rev. C. H. Spurgeon preached two sermons in this town on Thursday. At 3 p.m. in Canton cattle market. Just as he was about commencing, a heavy shower of rain fell. A regular scene occurred at the commencement. The public were admitted by pay- ing 2s 6d. and Is. for the privilege of hearing the rev. "entleman certainly, a most novel proceeding, which will be the means of bringing the preaching of the gospel to the level of shows and circuses. The hali-a-crownites were accommodated with benches within an enclosure of hurdles. The preacher requested the audience to come closer; consequently, the front seats were crammed. Se- veral parties denounced the proceedings a swindle, and that they were sold" and taken in. Great blame was attached to the committee for this breach of faith. Pay- ing for hearing the gospel preached is rather a new idea. Surely our friends the Baptists, have not much faith in the voluntary system. It is said that 3fr. Spurgeon loudly complained of this system. In the evening, he preached in the market house to an immense concourse of people.—Correspondent. CARDIFF.—One of the Cardiff volunteers, of the name of John Alexander, a fine young man in the prime of life, met with his death in a fearful manner last week. He was returning with others from target practice near the East Bllte, and for a lark, one of his companions went to walk on a plank which was used in loading vessels, and who evinced little timidity. Alexander went up; but on his way back, he fell on his head. He was con- veyed to the Infirmary, where he died on Sunday morn- ing. His remains were interred on Tuesday in Bolmister church-yard. The hearse was followed by a large body of volunteers Witil arms reversed, the band playing the de a" march. The scene wjis very imposing and sorrow- ful when they were passing through the streets. A party of the 16th company fired over his grave, to which corps he belonged.

I LIVERPOOL BANKRUPTCY COURT. I BEFORE MR. COJLMI8IONER PERRY. IN RE Richakd Evajts.—His Honour delivered judg- ment yesterday in the case of this bankrupt, a flannel manufacturer at Towyn, in the county of Merioneth, whose application for certificate was heard on Friday. He said—I have considered this case, which was an ap- plication for the allowauce of the bankrupt's certificate, made by his solicitor, Mr. Woodburn, and opposed by Mr. Rymer, solicitor for the Messrs. Williams, who are creditors for two sums amounting to X1421 and up- wan Is. The statement marked (A), in which the bank- rupt has estimated his stock on the 13th of February last at £ 1221 (within about zElOO of his then debt to the Messrs. Williams), but which stack the bankrupt ad- mits in his examination of the 24th of May to have been a great deal too much valued, to the extent of more than £400, after giving credit for all the deductions claimed by the bankrupt in the fourth page of his exa- mination, appears to have been the same in its details as a paper previously written in pencil on the 11th by the bankrupt, and submitted to Mr. Williams, one of the opposing creditors, who as early as the 2nd of Feb- ruary, was pressing the bankrupt to reduce his account at their bank, and who had also received the bankrupt's promise, which has not been performed, to reduce that account by the payment of a sum of £200, to be ob- tained at Newtown, from Mr. Gittens or Mr. Lloyd, neither of whom is proved to have indebted to the bank- rupt in that amount, if at all indebted. Air. Williams I having read the statement tore it up, and threw it into the tire, perhaps because the bankrupt had promised to give the statement in ink adverted to above, but this does not appear from the evidence. Mr. Williams, through his solicitor, Mr. Morris, intimated his consent to take a bill of sale, which had been offered by the bankrupt, who had previously, on the 2nd ct February, stated to him that he did not owe a penny to auy one except the bank, and having ??ub- sequently stated to Mr. Morris that he did net owe more than £ 50, besides X120 or £150 for whicli) he had lent his name oil security, but did not think he shon]d be called upon to pay; but Mr. WUlmms stipu- lated through his solicitor that the bankrupt was to re- d?,?3 the account as promi8ed, and particularly that he was to send the £OO, which he, as before stated, never did. Mr. Williams, at the further instance of the bank- -pt, conscnted to cash certain cheqlle for X28, £ 7, and £ 8. Now, looking at the fact that the statement (A) was particularly inquired into by Mr. Morris, and that the bankrupt assured him that he had on his prem- ises wool to the amount of X450 when nothing like that amount in value would appear to have then been in his possession, and looking at the promise to pay the X200 to be received from Mr. Gittens or Mr. Lloyd, I cannot help coming to the conclusion that this statement and promise were prepared and made with the fraudulent object of inducing the 1Ilessrs. Williams to continue their credit to the bankrupt; and considering that the interviews with Mr. Jones, the clerk of the bank, ami and Ilr. Morris, the solicitor of lIIe.srs. Williams, took place so lately as the 11th and 13th of February last, I cannot give credit to the statements repeated in the answers of the bankrupt of his want of memory, but must regard the answers which the bankrupt has given as to those interviews as indicating a desire to evade the truth, and I feel bound, therefore, to refuse the itli lowauce of the certificate altogether, and of course with- out protection, at all events for the present.

PENTRAETH. On the evening of the 3rd inst., the singers of Pen- tranth and Llanbedrgoch choirs were regaled with a sump- tuous repast, at Fron goch, by the Rev. James Hughes and his worthy lady. The spread was of an exquisite description. Ample justice being done to the victuals set before them, the siugers took a ramble about the grounds. They afterwards assembled; and the harmo- nious Old Hundredth" was conjointly sung by the two choirs. The rev. gentleman delivered a telling address. He said th:tt he and Mrs. Hughes were very much pleased to see them at Frou goeh; and he begged to thank them for accepting their invitation. He stated that singing had formed a prominent part of public wor- ship since very remote iges further remarking that the first song we read of in the Bible was that which Moses composed after the overwhelming of Pharaoh and his host in the Red Sea. He referred to the allusions we have in Sacred Writ to religious melody. He concluded by quoting St. Paul's admonition-" Speaking to your- selves in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs," &e. The choirs sang various beautiful pieces in rotation. The Pentraeth choir sang several admirable chants, under the management of Mr. John Williams, gardener, and Mr. Henry Parry, schoolmaster. At the conclusion, Mr Llewelyn Jones, schoolmaster, Lkvnbedrgoch, stood up, and said that his object in doing so was to return their sincere acknowledgments to IVI,. and Mrs. Hughes for inviting them there, and for the excellent entertain- ment which they had had. After some cursory obser- vations in reference to the antiquity of music, he re- marked that Walffi had been famous for its music and poetry since very remote ages; and he concluded by wishing success to such like meetings as theirs, and suc- cess to singing in the Principality, which, he observed, was at present very flourishing. The meeting passed oft with the greatest harmony, and everybody seemed highly pleased with the proceedings of the evening. The National Anthem crowned the7 proceedings of the evening.
