I CORWEN GOLF CLUB.
I CORWEN GOLF CLUB. I PRESENTATIONS TO MESSRS. R. T. FOULKES & T. LLOYD JONES. On Saturday evening last there was a very happy gathering of local golfers and friends of Mr. R. T. Foulkes, late post, ma ter of Cor- wen and present postmaster of Pwllheli, at the Market Hall Committee Room, Corwen, when The Hon. Mrs. Wynn, Rug, presented Mr. Foulkes, on behalf of the mem bers of the Golf Club and numerous friends with a solid gold watch (supplied by Mr. W. J, Stanslield Cor- wen). Dr. H. E. Walker, Plasyndre, presided, and read a letter from Mr. Lloyd, Rhagatt, regret- ing being unable to attend owing to illness. In his opening speech the Chairman referred to Mr. Foulkes' valuable services as secretary of the club, he Lad done his part very well indeed. As postmaster, he had improved matters very much during his stay at Corwen. Mr Foulkes had gone to Pwllheli for promotion and what was his gain was Corwert's loss. Mr. D. Davies, The L. C. and M. Bank, endorsed all tb-; good things Dr. Walker had said of Mr. Foulkes. Personally he could never wish for a beiter and truer iriend than Mr. Foulkes. He wished him every success in his future life. Speeches were made by Mr. U. James Jones, Mr. T. Lloyd Jones and others. The Hon. Mrs. Wynn said it gave her great pleasure to be present. In presenting Mr. Foulkes with tho watch she referred to his excellent qu lilies an postmaster at Corwen. She wished him every success in every way in his future career. Whenever she should, visit Pwllheli she would call and see Mr. Foulkes. Mrs. Wynn then read the following inscription which is engraved on the watch Presented to R. T. Foulkes, EFq, by his friends at Corwen on his leaving for Pwllheli, August 1914." The watch also uore Mr. Foulkes' monogram. In acknowledging the present Mr. Foulkes said his connection with Corwen had been a happy one. As a public servant he had done all in his power to improve things at Corwen. He would never forget his Corwen friends. Another interesting presentation followed when Mrs. Lloyd, of Rhagatt, presented Air. T. Lloyd Jones, The Terrace, with the hand- some and valuable Coronation Cup which he had won that afternoon, his opponent in the final being Mr. L. E. Rees, Reliance House. Mrs. Lloyd said it gave her very great pleasure to be present that evening and she was sorry Mr. Lloyd was unable to attend. She heartily congratulated Mr. Jones upon his brilliant achievement. Mr. Jones, in thanking Mrs. Lloyd, said he had during the competition defeated two very formidable opponents in Messrs. Norman Garner and L. E. Rees. Had Mr. Norman Garner won the cup this time it would have become his personal property because he has won it twice previously in succession. Mr. David Davies, The Bank, proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the ladies for very kindly coming iorward to m lke the present- ations and also to Dr. Walker-, for presiding. Mr R E. Jones, Hafod, seconded, and it was unanimously carried.
