In presenting the accounts for the year, the Directors have pleasure in calling attention to the fact that a very satisfactory advance in the business of the Company has again been recorded. The increase in the income is less than last year in consequence of 53 weeks returns being included in the accounts for 1908. It is very gratifying to be able to show that during the last five years the income of the Company has increased by nearly 50 per cent. while the assets are practically doubled. INCOME. The Total Income for the year amounted to Xl,998,692 7s 9d, being an increase of £ 96,176 Is 7d over that of the previous year. This includes X349,771 93 9d income in the Ordinary Branch, which is X30,888 lis lid greater than the previous year. The number of Policies issued during the year in this Branch was 15,512, assuring the sum of iCI,301,455 Os Od, and producing a New Annual Premium Income of R.56,081 19a lid. CLAIMS. The Company has paid 89,938 Life Claims, Grants and Matured Endowments during the year, amounting with Bonuses to Y,674,814 14s 2d, which added to the sums previously paid in claims since the establishment of the Company make a total of £ 7,073,814 8s 4d.
