Ystradyfodwg Loeal Bom d, THE WATER SUPPLY AGAIN. On Friday the ordinary meeting of this Board --took place at Ystrad, Aldermaa W. Jenkins pre- siding. There waa a full attendance of mem- hers. THE TSTRAD WATER COMPANY. A communication was read from the Secretary :to the Ystrad Gas and Water Company (Mr A. 'P. James) acknowledging receipt of the Board's letter enclosing a copy of the medical officer's report with reference to the state of the water supply in the various districts. Mr James pointed out that the Ystrad Gas and Water Com- pany and the Pontypridd Water Company had been confused in the Board's, letter and intim- ated tliat if the Ystrad Board asked their medi- "calofficer to report separately upon his company "he complaints would be duly considered. The Chairman said that he understood the ^eiical offioer's report specifically referred to ..eaoh company. The clerk said that was so. On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Jones it was agreed that the clerk should write to Mr A. P. J ames and explain matters tnore fully. HAWKING PETROLEUM IN THE STREET. 2^;S. Hoyle reported a hawker named Frederick White for an infringement of the Explosives' Act y carrying a larger quantity of petroleum about J~e Greets than was alio «?ed by the Act of Parlia- 5?ent. The Sergeant stated that he mentioned av kecause White was applying to"*che Board for hcense. The Clerk stated that White had been fined lor hawking a larger quantity of petroleum than he was entitled to carry without having it in pro- per tanks. The practice was a very dangerous one. THE TBAMWAT. The Messrs Thomas, solicitors, of Swansea, ^rote enclosing a notice of the intention of the Swansea company to apply to the Board of Trade for their sanction to the transfer of the tramways *0 them. The transfer was to be made for a sum £ 3,000, and if it was intended to lay any objec- tions against the transfer such objections would be made before the 28th October. The Clerk We have already written to the ■Board of Trade. Now we have by go their formal tltice- should refer the Board of Trade to we have previously stated. The Chairman Something definite ought to toe done. Mr Evan Evans WLS of a similar opinion. The deputy clerk The matter has been before the Pontypridd Board and Mr GroveF told me that he was going to write strongly to the Board of Trade about the matter. Mr James remarked that Mr Coorabes, con- ectioner, Pontypridd had had to pay over £ 50 a year in repairing damage done to his vans by the tramway. It .was ultimately decided that the Clerk should ■Write to the Board of Trade and ask them to op- Pose the transfer of the tramway unless the line Was properly pitched between the rails and to a ,Oertain extent on each side. Mr Mathias thought something should be said lb(lut the gradients of the tramways, and com- Pamt should be made of that near {the Vaughan's Arms and Eirw bridge where the trams some- tinaeagcran wild. The Hoard decided that the matter of the gradients should also be mentioned to the authorities. INSPECTION OF HACKNEY CARRIAGES. of Pontypridd, was ap- °* hackney carriages in the -crivnn f strict at the same remuneration as that .given to bis predecessor. THE CONDITION OF THE ROADS AT YSTRAD. A deputation consisting of the Rev MrWilliams curate, Mr Istance, cashier, Bodringalit, Mr W. R. Edwards, schoolmaster, Mr Elias Phillips, Mr Weir and Mr Collins appeared before the Board and complained of the bad state of the roads in j Ystrad Rhondda and Heolfach. The Rev Mr Williams stated that there was a good deal of traffic on the roads referred to and the deputation hoped the Board would do some- thing to remedy the state of affairs. The roads in front of the churches were in a very bad state. The chairman said that the Board were doing a portion of the road opposite the station and in° tended proceeding with the improvement of the footpaths of the main ways. Answering a remark made by Mr Griffiths the Rev M r Williams stated that although he should be glad to make them all churchmen yet he did not come there to preach to the Board. H e came there simply to plead the cause of the inhabit- ants and not of the church. (Laughter.) The Board informed the deputation that their request would be duly attended to. MEDICAL STATISTICS. The medical officer reported that there had been 179 deaths registered during the month—of these 101 were infants. During the same period the births registered had be9n 161 males and 154 females- total 315. These figures gave a birth rate of 21'6 and a death rate of 40'2. The bulk of the deaths had resulted from chest diseases, scarlet fever and measles. INSPECTORS REPORTS. The Inspector of No. 1 district reported an out- break of measles and scarlet fever in his district, and informed the Board that the doctors had nearly all refused to give information of infec- tious diseases. There had been two cases of Ty- phoid fever. The Inspector of No. 2 district re- ported that the roads in his district were in a good state. THE RHONDDA MAIN SEWER. The surveyor read tha report of Mr Chatterton, I the engineer to the Pontypridd and Rhondda Valley Sewerage Scheme with reference to the Rhondda Valley Main Sewerage Scheme. He also submitted his own plans of the Sewerage and the Board adopted them.

Ystrad Police Conrt. MONDAY.—Before Mr J. Ignatius Williams (Stipendiary), and Mr T. P. Jenkins, and Mr D. W. Davies. BASTARDY CASES.—David Jones, a haulier, resid- ing at Treorky, was summoned (to show cause why an order should not be made upon him to contribute towards the illegitimate child of Hannah Jones, of Treorky.-The evidence with reference the paternity being conclusive defend- ant was ordered to pay 3s per week with costs.— Thomas Price, a haulier, residing at Treorky, was similarly summoned by Mary Hasband.— The defendant was adjudged the father of the child and was ordered to pay 3s per week with OOtta. SCHCOL BoABp CASES.—27 School Board casew were down for hearing and Mr Yorath appeared to prosecute on behalf of the Ystradyfodwg Sohool Beard. Sohool Beard. 1- ASSAULTING A HEADMASTER AT PENYGRAIG.—Jas. Pascoe was summoned for assaulting Mr John William Jones, headmaster of Penygraig Board Sehools on the 9th inst.-The evidence went to show that a lad namei Hill a relative of tfie defendant was kept in for making a noise during prayers at 5.15. Defendant same to the school and said "Come out Tommy or I'll make you." Complainant said "If you want anything there is a proper way of asking for it." Defendant said "What the h- are yon. beating the boy for." Told him the boy had iot been beaten at all. Ordered him out and threatened to send for a policeman if he did not go. Defendant rushed at him and caught him round the body and scuffled to prevent him from s/hutting the door. Com- plainant caught him by the collar and sent again for a policeman. Defendant got away.-Daniel Lewis a pupil corroborated and the defendant was ordered to oav the costs 17/8. ANOTHER ASSAULT ON A TEACHER.—Eliza Rose, a married woman, of Pentre, was summoned for assaulting Mary Williams on the 16th inst.—The complainant said she was a teacher at the Bod- ringallt Board School.On the date in question at noon defendant came to the school in the lobby and in a threatening attitu de. She asked why she was always sending her child to be punished for trifles and then thr eatened to knock her head off her shoulders. Witness told her to come in the afternoon to see the head teacher. Complain- ant then left. Defendant followed and struck her on the forehead. She said "Youhav'nt had half enough. If my husband had come he would have given you more. If I saw you passing my door I would knock your head off your shoulders." She (complainant) had only struck the child once with a halfpenny flat ruler for disturbing the class. Defendant denied striking the complain- ant and said that she was continually beating her child. She beat her about the head at Christmas and the child was deaf in one ear in consequence. — Edith Mary Lloyd, assistant teacher, proved the striking by defendant who appeared to be in a bad temper. There was a swelling on Miss Williams's forehead .-Lizzie Price, pupil teacher, said she saw defendant strike Miss Williams.—The defendant was ordered to pay 15/2 costs and the bench told her she ought to have complained to the School Board of the alleged illtreatment of her child instead of taking the law in to her own hands. ASSAULT AT TREORKY.—John Evans, was sum- moned for assaulting Arthur Williams at Treorky on the 9th inst.—Fined 20s and costs. DsunKARDS.—David Roberts, collier, Treher- bert, was fined 10s for being drunk on the 13th of February.—Thomas Lewis, Clydach Vale, for a similar offence was fined 20.—John Humphreys haulier, Trealaw, was summoned for being drunk and riotous on the 15th inst.-Fined 10s.—Wm. Morris, Pandy, collier, Was also fined 15s for being drunk and riotous on the 14th inst at Pandy. ASSAULT ON THE POLICE.- rhomas Meredith, a collier, residing at Treherbert was charged with 11 z;1 assaulting P.C. Davies at Treherbert on Sunday last.—The constable whose svidence was corr- oborated by another officer gave evidence to the effect that on the day mentioned about 2.15 p.m. he found the defendant beating his mother in the house. Subsequently the ^constable saw the de- fendant outside stripped and challenging another person to fight. He arrested prisoner and got him to the police station. Fined 40s. ILLICIT SALE OF BEER.—Charles Williams, labourer, residing at Top-row, Blaenycwm, was fined £10 for selling beer without a licence on Sunday week. P.C. Poyntz, Treherbert, found two men drinfaing in the house, and a nine gallon cask on tap in the room adjoining the kitchen. Defendant did not appear. A TYNKWYDD MHLEE.—Joseph Fudge, was snm- moned for assaulting Timothy Constance at Tynewydd, on Feb. 4th.—Mr C. W. Matthews appeared for the complainant, and Mr Rhys for the defence -There was also a summoas taken out by Laura Constance against Fanny Farns- worth, for assault, and another taken out for a like offence by Fanny Farnsworth against Timothy Constance.—All three casee arose out of one melee.-The summonses against Fudge and Fame worth were dismissed, while Thimothy Constance was fined 20/- and costs.
