The appeal made by the JOURNAL a few weeks ago for funds to erect a suitable memorial at Car- marthen for the brave young fellows who met their death while taking part in the recent South African war has met with the most gratifying results. This week we have to acknowledge the receipt of a total sum of £58 5s and we have every confidence that our appeal will eventually result in the erection of a memorial which will do credit to the subscribers, and will be a fitting record of the heroism of those staunchyoung spirits who laid down their live? for the -ake of their country. We trust that the people of Carmarthen town, as well as the inhabitants of the county, ir addition to natives of the district who are living away from Wales and abroad, will send us their contributions, addressed Fallen Heroes Fund, JOURNAL Office."
