SAVE THE CHILDREN. HOLY INNOCENTS' DAY. IN accordance with the appeal of the Archbishop of Ca/ntorbury which ap- peacedin the C.P.N. last we&k, the secretary of Save the Children Fund," 7,' St. Jiames's-terrace, Regent's Parle, will be glad to correspond with any cletrgyman who may be desirous of assist- ing in the manner suggested by. the Archbishop by giving a collection on the 23th inst. Leaflets descriptive of the situation in Central Etrrope and Asiia Minor will be forwarded for distribution. At home we have been preserved from some of the worst evils of the wair, but in the war iareas of Europe there aire at the present time hundreds of hungry women and children, amongst whom the mortality during the winter will be exceptionally heavy unless help can be rendered imui-ediatedy. One iof the fund's correspondents who has returned from visiting these districts speaks of ia centre where 800 babies were in need of milk, and it oould mot be procured. At another place 00 per cent, of the children suffered from .rickets. The extent of tuberculosis cannot yet be estimated. v-' .¡¡;:

OUR SEAMEN, : !

OUR SEAMEN, A GRAND WORK. THE record of the work silently achieved by our seamen during the war constitutes a volume than which there is no more precious in all our national story. And this first. Christmastide of real peace presents a favourable opportunity for some token of our gratitude to the men And how best to evidence this feeling? By r contributing the wherewithal for their further well-being when in .port at home and abroad. We are helping the seamen of all our marine services to withstand the insidious allurements which are so often. a feature of docksides, to maintain their health and strength of mind and body, to carry out their work the better. And of all agencies existing for this work, the Missions to Seamen has in its sixty-four years' existence achieved a premier posi- tion. The willing handmaid of our Naval arm during the war, in all those places where the exigencies of the time necessi- tated Naval bases, officially credited with\ a war-time testimony of having done the bulk of the welfare work among the mer- cantile marine in our own ports, the society faces the reconstruction period in nearly 130 ports—home, colonial, and foreign, and appeals for more generous support still to enable it to cater for its clientele. There is Southampton, with its fine in- stitute, with a debt of some thousands yet to cover; and here gratitude oould well help, for the transports lost only six men out of the 7,000,000 troops carried. Dun- kerque, that coming port of Northern France, where the projected and necessary I institute in place of the present inade- quate premises offers fine scope for a tan- gible tribute to the men of the Dover Patrol. And then there is the general work, the catering for the spiritual, material, and social welfare of the seamen of to-day, a work which is absolutely necessary, but which demands financial support to carry it on. No better mode of expressing grati- J tude can surely be. found than by helping such a society as The Missions to Seamen.
