That there are now 8000 children in the Home's That anyone inte.rested in the work will be welcomed at the Llandudno Branch for Delicate girls. Trinity Square, between the hours of 2 and 5 p.m. any day except Satur- day and Sunday. That although it is not the general impression A-hat. a service 'of electric cars will be run this season by the Llandudno. Electric Tram- way Company. y- That" we have "been assured that it is the in- tention of the Company to start a service with as little deilay as possible,. That the. contractors already made the tests. previous toO the. Board of Trade inspection. and when that inspection is over and the cables are laid through Mo.styn Avenue, \vhich. it is hoped, will be. completed in a few day,, a service will be .started forthwith. That not only is there to be a summer ser- vice, for which, of course, heavy tramic is expected, but there is to be a quarter-hour servic.e all through the winter, with a more frequent service if necessary. That even if from now onwards fine weather should be continuous, it will be impossible to pull up the loss already sustained. That a local Doctor, who is Surgeon Captain with the Welsh Fusiliers, had a somewhat embarrassing experience recently at Black- pool. That garbed in full regimentals .he was given a seat in a Blackpool brother practitioner's carriage on his way to camp. GOLF. MEDAL COMPETITION AT LLANDUDNO. The nfth medal competition of the season took place on Saturday on the North Wales Club's links on West. Shore, Handudno. The attendance was good, and brilliant sunshine prevailed, but a fresh breeze in the afternoon interfered with the play of those' who, were late going out. Mr F. A. C. Richardson, a local member, had the .satisfaction of securing his nrst win in these competitions with a good re- turn of 72, his card reading., 88, 16-72. Other returns were:—Mr T. C. Mellor, 79 plus 1, 80; Mr W. D. Henderson. 81. plus 1, 82; Mr G. Broeklehurst. 98, minus 12, 86. Lord Coch- rane, 89, minus 9. 80; Mr T. J. Shipton-Green, 92. minus 8. 84.

It was decided to accept ihe tender of Messrs James Alien and 'Sons tor tlie supply of an ornamental steel column 30 feet high, to be Ut&ed lor a wind vane, and which also- could be used as an electric arc lamp. 'stephenson, the en- gine'er, was submitted, In which he .stated that the work which the Works Committee pro- posed to carry out on the foreshore lor sea de- ien.ce purposes would not, in his opinion, im- prove. the condition of The shore where it most needs improvement namely between the Nevill Hydro and the Imperial Hotel. Further, it appeared to him the trial was being made and money expended, on a portion ot the shore which at present least needed it. He also produced a plan shewing groynes where he thought they might, be useful in accumulating shingle, altliough he was by no means satis- fied oil! tne paint. The. plan was approved of and the Sur- veyor .instructed to proceed with the work.. APPRENTICE SYSTEM TO BE INQUIRED INTO. Tli.e, following recommendation <jf The Cra.s Manager was approved of by the Gas and Water Committee, and .submitted to the Coun- cil for approval:— That increase's of wages be granted (a) John M. Davies, age 20, apprentd'c-e to gas fitting;, etc., 16s. to 18s. per week; (b) Robert Davies, age 17, apprentice to gas fitting, etc., 10s. to 12s. per week: (c) Tom Edwards, age 19, boiler attendant and .engine cleaner, 10s. to 14s. per week; (.d; Tom Johnson, age 20) laboure.r and relief stoker, 18s. to 21s. per' week. A letter from the! Ratepayers' Association was read requesting the Council not to. grant any increase! to the nrst two applicant, pend- ing an inquiry into the whole question of apprenticeships under the: Council. Mr Roger Dawson proposed that, the mater be referred back in view of the. decision of the Council not to grant increases of wages except at t.he. April meeting of the Council. Mr Hugh Edwards' offer t.o s.e.eond. this if Mr Daws.on would allow the last two items to be granted, an offer which was accepted. Alter some discussion a further amendment was proposed by Mr W. 0. Williams, se.co.nded by Mr Ro.bt. Roberts and agreed to that the first two applications be deferred pending an inquiry as suggested by the Ratepayers' Asso- citon, and that the last two. be granted forth- with. ON THE SAME FOOTING. It was resolved, on the recommendation of the Gas and Water Committee., that chemists. and others providing's dark rooms for the us,e of amateur o.r other photographers be charged for water 100.' this and other purposes at the same rate as photo.s'raphers are. charged. MARINE "DRIVE TOLLS. A leter was read from the President of the Local Government Board giving the Council permission to Levy a toll of one penny on foot passengers using the Great Orme Marine Drive for a further term of three years, on con- dition that no further application would be made. Mr- Roger Dawson though there might be a diffe.rent president of the Board by tnat time,, but the condition was accepted. it was runner resolved that. the valuable service rendered by Councillor Robt. Hu.gh.es, S.ecre- tary to the Llandudno Pier Company, inquir- ing the terms on. which the Council would. supply the Company with gas in case they should require! it, and stating tile estimated quantity tliey would consume. The matter was reierred to the Gas Committee.. OPENING OF THE NEW COUNTY SCHOOL. A leter was read from Mr J. J. Marks, Clerk to the Oonway with Llandu.dno. Local Govern- ing Body, informing the Council of the open- ing of the new County School Buildings on September 25th, and a special .committee con- sistin.g of the. chairman of each standing com- mittee, toi be' presided over by the, Chairman. of the Council, was elected to make suitable. arrangements to receive tne American Am bassador, the Ho.n. Mr Whitelaw Reid, who, ha,s consented to perform the ceremony. THE LIGHT RAILWAY. The contractors of the Electric Light Rail- way submitted a petition in favour of their being allowed to lay their feeder cable, along. Moatyn Avenue, wdnch had been signed by all. except by three of the residents of tlie north- east side of the avenue, who will be more im- mediately affected by t):e work. The contrac- tors asked, in view of this petition, that the. Council should allow the laying of the cables to be forthwith pr Decoded with, and that they. should not to tha.t extent insist upon the pro- vision in the Order that no work should be done in the, streets between July 1st and October 31st. When the .cable through the avenue was laid the Company would be able to start a maximum service of' ears. The work would be pushed through with as little, delay. or disturbance of the street as possible. Mr J. M.cMaster stated that the line was laid at West Shore through to Dale Street, but. the overhead equipment was not yet com- pleted. The C.o.uncil, almost unanimously, decided to concede, the application of the contractors.. GLODDAETH STREET SUB-PO!ST OFFICE. It was reported that the PostmasterGeneral still declined to. grant any further facilities at' Gloddaeth Street Sub-Post Onice. and it was. decided that the special committee deaJing with the matter should take evidence of the in- convenience, caused by the lack of sufficient accommodation and forward the same to the Postmaster General MOTOR SPEED-LIMIT GRANTED. The. Clerk to the County Council of Carnar- vonshire, Mr T. J. Roberts, informed the'. Council that the, Local Government Board had de'cided to. issue an order limiting the speed) of mtto.i'-cai's in Mo.styn Street a.nd the Pro- menade a.t LI.andu.dno betweeni Gloddaeth Street and Vaughan Street. The Promenade from Vaughan Street to Carmen Sylva Road' has, howe.ver. been excluded from the pro- posed area in which the speed is to be limited. The formal order will be issued as soon as the necessary notices and signs are provided by the County Council and fixed by the District Council. A RELIC OF THE VICTORY. Mr W. 0. Williams info'rmed .the Council' that a camnon belonging to Nelson's old nag- ship. the "Victory." lay in the Hippodrome. Grounds. He believed an order had been issued for 'its destruction, and suggested that application be made for the same and that it be placed in the Hapuv Vallev.
