Rhuddlan. HANES YR HEN BOBL A'R HEN BETHAU YN RHYL. Y LYIII. BENOD.-J ohn Williams, y crydd Un o'r dynion mwyaf diddan o'r doBbarth cryddawl a ad waeuais vn ystod fy oes ydoedd ef. Dosbarth cocrus y byddid yn arfer cyfrif y cryddioD yr oes aetb heibio, yn enwedig felly Dnewn matterion eglwysig; yr oeddynt yn cael en cyfrif yn fwy darllensjar braidd nag unrbyw ddosbarth o grefft- wyr oddieifchr y teilwriaid, a tbrwy hyny 3-11 cael y blaen ac yn cael eu codi i lywodraeth ac i'r set tawr, ac i xarohogaoth yr eglwyei, Ond nid un felly oedd John Williams dyn gostyngedig, hawdd i'w drin, beth bynag ddipgynai i'w ran- un felly ydoedd ef bob amser, yn addfwyn a gostyngedig, yn cyflawni pob peth a ofynid iddo. Annibynwr selog oedd John Williams hefyd cof genyf i mi ofyn iddo ryw dro pwy oedd yn dyfod i bregethu yna yn nghyfarfodydd y Nadolig, a dyna fo yn ateb, yn ei ddull diniwed, Wir, welwcb cbwi, rhyw third class' sydd i fod yma eleni;" a braidd ar yr un gwynt yn dweyd, efallai y g-allwn gyfrif un 0 honyntya second class' hefyd." Un o'r dyfodiaid i'r Rlyl oedd John Williams, fel llawer eraill oedd yno. Dyn lied fychan, a thipyn 0 gloffni ynddo, oedd John Wlilia mq, os wyf yn cofio yn iawn. Yr oedd ef yn grydd da a tbaclns, ond er hyny ni chododd fawr uwch yn ei sefyllfa ar hyd ei oes na'r stol, fel llawer eraill a adwaenwn ond heb fod cystal crcfftwr ag ef. Yn mhlith llawer sydd yn fy nghof, mi nodaf un, a bwnw wedi dechre ei oes btfo ifarmwyr ond ryw sut mi dorodd ei goes, ac wedi byny 'doedd ef fawr 0 wasanaeth, druan, ar y ffaroi wed'yn, acbos mae yn gofyn dwy ooes go dda at wait'u ffarm. Mi feddyliodd y pi wyf- olion ei roi yn brentis 0 grydd, gan fod y grefft bono yn bawdd ei dysgu i un oedd wedi myned i oed. Fe ddywedodd rhywun nid oedd eisiau fawr 0 fenydd i ddysgu y gwaith, ac wedi ei dysgu unwaith mai yr un peth oedd ganddynt ar hyd eu hoes, sef gwneud bootchers (Wellington boots), bluchers, a watertights. Mi fydde yn arferiad gan lawer gael pydole yn troi am y blaen i'r watertights, a hyny er mwyn iddynt, pan aent i ymladd, i anafu eu gwerthwynebwyr. Fel y mae'r gore, mae yr hen aiferiad farbaraidd hono yn mhlith y pethau a fa erbyn byn. Wei, son yr oeddwn am y Hangc wedi cael crefft, ac wedi byny mi feddyliodd am gael gwraig a phe dase fo heb yr un goes mi fase yn cael gwraig, achos y mae bono yn hawdd i'w chael. Ond er fod y grefft 0 grydd yn hawdd i'w dysgu, i raddau, methiant fu hi hefo fo, er hyny. Ond ar ol iddo gael gwraig fe aeth i gadw cryddion a shop, a theDdio y marchnadoedd a'r ffeiriau ar hyd y wlad, fel y byddid yn arfer yn yr oes aeth heibio. Ond methiant a fu yn byoy eto, a gorfu iddynt droi at rhywbeth arall wed'yn. Er mor hawdd ydoedd y grefft i'w dysgu, nid pawb oedd yn medru gwneud hyny, mae'n amlwg; os oedd y syniad hwnw yn wir mai hawdd oedd gwneud yr un gwaith drosodd a throsodd, 'doedd dim rhyfedd fod y cryddion ag amser i feddwl am wahanol bethau pan wrth eu gwaith arferol, ac i fedru siarad a dadleu a pbawb am bobpeth- crefyddol a gwladol. Yr oeddwn yn adnabod dau bereon yn dda, ac i un 0 honynt diweyd ei fod wedi cael gwahoddiad i roi pregeth mewn lie yr oedd yno grydd a'i deulu yn arfer gwrando, ac yn mesur a phwyso pawb. Meddai, 'Wn i yn y byd beth gaf i yn destun.' Mae adnod neu ddwy yn Jlyfr Job,' meddai cyfaill wrtbo, 'a dyma fel y maent yn darllen, A dynDi di y Lefiathan allan a b;i»h V neu a rwymi di ei dafod ef a rhaff A osodi di fach yn ei drwyn ef ? neu a dylli di asgwrn ei en ef a mynawyd, ac yr wyf yn sicr y gallwcb chwi wneud defnydd o'r geiriau hyny i roi bach yn ffroen y crydd.' Nid wyf yn gwybod pa effaith a gafodd y weinidogaeth ar y gwr a'i dylwyth, ond byn a glywais, sef na cbafodd y pregethwr byth fynediad yno ond hyny. Mi adwaenwn i hen gymeriad 0 hen berson arall, yr hwn a wnaeth fyr waith ar grydd mewn man arall. Mae'r hanes fel hyn yr oedd person wedi cael ei wahodd i giniaw clwb, a chafodd rywbeth i fwyta nad oedd yn dygymod a'i gylla, ac aeth y gair allan ei fod wedi yfed yn drwm. Ond mi wyddai pawb nad oedd Hawer 0 ddiod feddwol gael mewn ciniaw [clwb byd yn nod yn yr oei hono beth bynag, yr oedd y gair wedi myned allan yn dew ac yn dene, fel y mae hanea coll dyn da yn ami, onide ? Yr oedd yr hanes oedd am dano ar byd a lied y plwyf, ac beblaw hyny, yn peri poen mawr iddo, ac yntau ar y pryd yn ddipuog hollol, ond er hynny yn cael cam. Nid oedd dim i wnead ond cael Festri i drin ei achos, ac yr oedd yn digwydd fod yna grydd yn un o'r Guardians y flwyddyn hono; fe benodwydd y diwrnod a'r awr i dd'od a'r achos yn mlaen. Mi feddyliodd y gwr oedd yn y brofedigaeth am anron at Ddoctor, yr hwn oedd gyfaill iddo-nid ryw quac doctor, cofier-ond doctor mewn duwin- yddiaetb, yr hwn oedd yn ddiarebol yn y wlad am drin materion o'r fath. Yr oedd dymuniad iddo ddyfod i'r munud, ac felly y daeth. Yr oedd yno nifer liosog wedi ymgynull ynghyd, a dyna hwy yn dechre sisial a'u gilydd, a'r Doctor yn bresenol yn eu plith, ac yntau heb fod yn byw yn y plwyf. Ond ni chododd vr un 0 honynt i ddryd gair, a dyna'r crydd ar ei draed o'r diwedd, ac yn ddefosiynol a chyda golwg duwiol iawn arDO. Dywedai fod achos pwysig wedi eu galw ynghyd, ac fod yn dda ganddo weled y Dr. A. J. yn eu plith, ac efallai y gallai ef roi cyngor iddynt. Ar hyn dyma'r Doctor ar ei draed, ac meddai, '0, ai eisiau cyngor sydd arnat?' Os gwelweh yn dda,' nceddai'r crydd, yn ostyngedig iawn. Wei,' meddai'r Doctor, pe ceid ti gyngor a wnai di y cyngor os roddaf un i ti ?' Dyna'r crydd yn ateb, Gwnaf, f-yr: Wei, do i olchi dy ddwylaw a ch wyueb rhag cywilydd i ti yn d'od i le fel hyn a'r diwyg ene sydd arnat,' achos yr oedd wedi dyfod oddiar ei 'stol, fel yr oedd yn gweithio. Ymaith ag ef yn y fan, fel ei wedi lladd defaid, ac fel un wedi ei daro a. rnndandod. ac wedi i'r gwr fYfled i'w le ei bun dyma'r Doctor yn gofyn beth oedd yr achos y daethant ynghyd, er eu bod yn gwybod yn dda. Wed'yu, dyna nn mewn gwell diwyg na'r crydd ar ei draed, ac yn dweyd yr banes oedd wedi bod ar led yn y plwyf ond wedi manylu a tbroi a tbrosi yr hanes, dyna fo yn dweyd yn awdurdodol, tra yn taro y bwrdd, nad oedd dim sail i'r chwedl, ac nad oedd yn credo yr un gair 0 honi. Ar ol i amryw 0 bonynt ddy- weyd gair i'r un cyfeiriad, dyna un yn awgrymu y buasai yn dda iddynt gael barn y Doctor ar yr achos. gan ei fod ef yn bresenol, a phawb yn cydweled. Dyna'r Doctor ar ei draed, a golwg dipyn yn ddireidus arno, gan ddeyd mai ar ddam- wain yr oedd ef yno, gan fod Mr James ac yntau yn gyfeillion, a'i fod wedi dyfo-i gydag ef i'r Festri. Dywedai wrthynt nad o. dd ganddo hawl yfreithlawn i fod yno, 0 ran hyny; ond gan eu bod am iddo ddeyd gair ar yr achlysur, ac os ydi Mr James yn cydweled a chwi, pob peth yn dda. Yr oedd pawb yn unllais am air gan y Doctor a dyna'r gair cyntaf a ddywedodd oedd ei fod wedi Twrando yn astud ar bob L-air a fu tan sylw, a'i fod o'r un farn a'r boneddwr a ddywedodd nad oedd yn credu gair o'r hanps, a dyma y gair a'r cyngor sydd genyf i roi i chwi ydi hyn, Fef claddu pobpeth; ond cofiwch, Did fel y byddwn ni yn claddu ein meirw—mewn diogel obaith am adgyf- odiad gwell; na, thai hi ddim felly. Claddwch bobpeth o'r natnr yma a'i wyneb i lawr, ac os aiff i grafu, yn ddyfnach, ddyfnach i lawr yr aiff ac os daw allan yn Awstralia ni wnaifI fawr 0 niwed I chwi yma. Dyma beth arall ddymunwn i chwi •goiio, sef fod cyfrifoldeb dirfawr ar bwy bynag a daeno'!d y fath chwedlau mae'r cyfryw yn ngored !i'r gyfraitb. Ond gan ein bod yn bobl refyddol, gadewch i ni ddangos byny trwy fadden i'n gilydd, ac felly yr wyf yn dymuno dweyd, yn ol pob peth a ddywedwyd yma fod Mr James yn ddieuog. Gair bach am y Doctor mewn cyfeiriad arall. Mi fydde ganddo yn ei dy ar dLrethol ddosbarth o ddynion ieuaingc yn cyfarfod at nosweithiau o'r wythnos i ddarllen y Beibl, ac i,IIw besbonio iddynt. Yr oedd gwabanol grefft- wyr yn y dosbaitli, a rhai heb grefft ond y gretIt fawr; yn eu plith yr oedd crydd a joiner. Un noson, dyma, y Dr. yn galw sylw y joiner at ryw fwrdd oedd ganddo, ac yn gofyn beth fyddai oreu i wneud iddo, a'r joiner yn 0 annibeii yn dweyd didIO. Dyma'r crydd yn ateb, '0. fel hyn y feaswo i yn gwneud.' Dyna ddigon am y crydd, os nad gormod, Gair am y teiliwr y tio nesaf.

Rhuddlan. Football. The match played last Saturday at Rhuddlan was with the Rhyl Press. After some exciting play the Rhuddlan club proved the victors by 5 goals to 3. To-morrow Afonwen are the visitors, and a good match is anticipated. Debating Society. A meeting of the above was held on Friday under the presidency of Mr Wm Parry, when an interesting debate on Free Trade v. Protection took place. Mr Thos Hughes, Penybont, opened the discussion in favour of Free Trade, and Mr Joseph Roberts championed the cause of Protec- tion. Several members took part, and on the motion of Mr J W Jones, seconded by Mr W Morris, the meeting was adjourned until to-night (Friday), when Messrs Jones and Morris will open the debate.
Flintshire Police Committee.
Flintshire Police Committee. At the quarterly meeting of the Flintshire Standing Joint Committee at Mold yesterday, Mr R Ll Jones, of Rhyl, presided. Chief Constable's Report., The report of the Chief Constable (Major Webber) showed that during the past quarter 39 indictable offences were reported, for which 26 persons were apprehended, 9 proceeded against by summons, and 4 cases were undetected. The number of cases of drunkenness was 115, which was in advance both of the number last quarter and of the number of the corresponding quarter last year. On the proposition of the Chairman, a vote of condolence was passed with the family of the late Mr P B Davies-Cooke in their bereavement. The Tramp Problem. Considerable discussion took place on the subject of vagrants in the county, and the meeting respectfully submitted that the subject should receive the careful consideration of the Local Government Board, with a view to the establishment of a more effective and uniform system for dealing with tramps. Mr P P Pennant proposed the resolution. In seconding, Mr J Prince (Connah's Quay) thought that some notice should be taken of the proportion of old soldiers and reserve men who drifted into the ranks of tramps. He thought there should be an imperial contribution to the cost of keeping those who formerly belonged to the army. The Chairman thought it was too sweeping a charge to say that the majority of the tramp cases were to be attributed to the short-service system in the army. They had about 3,000 tramps per annum passing through St. Asapb, but most of those were subject to some infirmity. There were very few who were able-bodied. There were some exceptions, and poisibly these were army men. Mr Pennant said the discussion served to show how advisable it was that they should have a uni- form system of dealing with tramps throughout the country. The resolution was carried. Sunday Trade. The Hawarden Free Church Council wrote com- plaining of the nuisance caused by the sale of newspapers on Sunday in the Hawarden and Buckley district and requesting that immediate ■teps be taken to put a stop to the practice alto- gether, or at least, during hours of diyine service. The Chairman said they had tried to deal with this matter in Rhyl, but they had failed. The communication was handed to the Chief Constable, with a. request that he should give the matter his attention.
LATE NEWS.---
LATE NEWS. End of Concordats." The Archbishop of Canterbury in a further letter to the Rev Dr Horton sayw he reluctantly accepts the decision of tho latter that an amicable and practical conference on the teaching of religion in schools is not at present possible. Miss Hickman. The jury last evening brought in a verdict that the lady doctor had takeu morphine whilst temporarily insane. Mr. Kenyon's Views. The Hon. G T Kenyon, M.P., nukes known his general views on the fiscal problem. Mr Kenyon wants to see Free Trade all round, which we have never had, and from which we seem to be further than ever. But he does not see the wisdom or necessity of taxes on food, and this is not the policy the Government advocates. The Govern- ment's effort to break down hostile foreign tariffs will have Mr Kenyon's cordial support.

TO THE RATEPAYERS OF RHYL. r^EAR SIR OK MADAM,—I should like to call jLJ your attention to the many advantages which the town has enjoyed this year as a result of the efforts of the Rhyl Advertising and Town Improve- ment Association. Several thousands of the effective coloured posters, which were first issued last season, have beeen displayed this year in the principal towns in England, and through this medium some hundreds Of letters asking for various information ,have been answered and Culdes to the town have been sent. This has entailed very laborious work and much expense. The Committee are new discussing their next year's programme, which includes among other items the designing and issuing of a much larger poster, and also publishing a detailed and illus- trated guide to send away to intending visitors. This cannot be done without a considerable outlay, and I earnestly appeal to you to give some appreciable financial assistance, without which it is impossible to continue the useful work which we feel sure you will acknowledge has been done in the past two years by this Association.
