LITERARY NOTES.
LITERARY NOTES. STUDIES IN THE ACTIO OF THE APOSTLES, by the Rev J. Cvnddylan Jones. Publisher Houlston and Jones, Paternoster-square, London. We have read with much pleasure and profit this volume of sermons from the Rev. L. Cynddylar, Jones. All of them possess a peculiar charm, but we were especially struck with those upon the "Comprehensiveness of the Gospel," "The unknown God," "The Day of Penticost," The Temples of God." It is pleasing to meet with such freshness and originality as we find in this volume before us. These sermons evince a wide acquaintance with the subject, and manifest the fruits of extensive reading and careful thought. Mr Jones is deser- vedly a popular preacher. and we venture to say those studies will go far to extend his popularity. He treats his subjects in a simple but masterly style, and he invests themes with interest and attraction. It is rarely that we find sermons possessing any charm when separated from the eloquence of the "living voice," but it is not so with this volume before us. It will speak for itself, and will secure a wide circle of readers because of its own value. The volume is neatly got up, printed in clear type on toned paper, and published at 5s. Many who have had ttie pleasure of listening to one of the most eloquent preachers of Wales will be glad to welcome some of these Studies." We heartily commend them to the thoughtful and intelligent public, but more especially to young ministers, a3 models of sim- plicity, eloquence, and clearness of style. We shall be very happy to meet Mr Jones again in the same sphere, and we shall hail him on his re- appearance in the Studies from the Gospel of St Matthew," which is promised to follow shortly.
