postscript WEDNESDAY EVENINO, Oct. 2. The French Papers of Sunday furuish us with details of reported victories gained by the Pelopon- nesiau and Suliot Greeks, over the Turks at various points but the accounts on both sides are evidently so much exaggerated, and so vague, that no reli- ance is to be placed on either of them. The accounts too, in these Papers, from Spain, repre- sent the Army of the Faith as having been emi- nently successful against the Constitutional forces but thsse, too, are of a nature by no means to en- title tiiein to implicit credit. A Frankfort Journal states, that on the 29th of August a fire broke out at Constantinople, near the Mosque of Sultan Mehemed, which, though prompt succour was afforded, could not be extinguished till it had destroyed about 2,000 houses and shops. A letter addressed to the New England Coffee- house, from Liverpool, received this morning, states that a person arrived from New York, in the Her- cules, mentions that one half of the city ot N ew York has been consumed by fire. This statement is be- lieved by the^American Merchants in th-ejeity, but j not to the extent reported. In consequence of the King not having appeared in public since his return from Scotland, it is re- ported that his Majesty is not so well as could be wished. We understand Mr. Manners Sutton has posi- tively declined the Governor Generalship of India. —Morning Chronicle. It is stated that Lord Il vrrowby hus signified to his Majesty his desire to resign the Presidency of the Council, being from ill health desirous of re- tiring from public life. PRICE OF STOCKS. D. MORGAN, Portreeve, I IS TUE CILAIIL J V. Resolved unanimmlshf, That the following Memorial be addressed to the Lojrdi. of his-Majesty's,Treasury >; r. To the Right Honourably the Lords Commissionirs, of his Majesty's Vreasury. The MEMORIAL of the INHABITANTS of NEATF4 and its VICINITY, assembled at the Town-Hall, in Neath, on Monday, the 30th day ot September, 1822, for the purpose of taking into Consideration the proposed. Alteration in the Conveyance of the Mail to Ireland, by abandoning the Milford Station. May it please your Lordshipi, Your Memorialists, concurring in the unanimous senti- ments1 of a numerously attended Meeting converted tit Swansea, on the 23d instant," on the subject: now under consideration, beg leave to adopt the cxpressionof those sentiments in the language of their Memorial to youc Lordships of that d"ay. c Your Memorialists concur also in the opinion of thos^ who ascribe a large portion of the calamities which have called down the sympathy of all good subjects in Gt^at Britain upon our Irish neighbours, to the insufficiency of that Intercourse between the Nattves and the great Prat prietors of their Soil which, by rewarding the labour, invigorates the energies of industry. It is obvious that such Intercourse will be promoted or retarded, and that Commercial and Agricultural Capital ■ will be more or less employed, in proportion to tlie facilities afforded, and.to the rapidity of communication, so essentiak to mercantile;'speculation.. That these are mainly improved by the Mail Establish- ment is obvious ;—witness the rapid increase of active capital employed in this part of the United Kingdom siiictr Mail Coaches were established here. That the population of South Wales, sensible of the great value which appertains to these truths, and anxious to extend their application, are now making great exertions, public as well as private, in order to facilitate and improve this intercourse with their neighbours,—to open^ hew, and and hitherto unexplored Resources of Commerce, in as Country highly gilted with natural advantages, and thereby to encourage a hardy, faithful, and loyal, ruce of British Labourers. Your Memorialists, therefore, humbly hope that yohr Lordships will not for a moment listen to all innovation, s<? calculated as that now in contemplation, to frustrate these efforts, and to force this fair portion of his Majesty's Dominions to a rctrogade motion, in the midst of its progress towards improvement, Resolved unanimously, # That' Wyndhum'Lewis, Esq. the Member in Parliament for the Glamorganshire Boroughs, be requested to present such Memorial to the Lords of the Treasury and that ho and'Sir Christopher Cole, the Member for the County, be requested to support the object of the Memorialists, in: case the same should become the subject 01 Parliamentary' inquiry. That the Chairman he requested to transmit Copies of these Resolutions and of the Memorial to Cardiff, Mertliy iv Newport, Coik, and Waterford. That a Copy of the Memorial be inserted in the ne*$ Cambrian Newspaper. (Signed) D.MORGAN. Resolved unanimously, That the Thanks of this Meeting be given to the Chitirtuun for his attention to the objects of tlus Meeting. f. I.'
