A report of Sir Watkin Williams Wynn being about to be created a Peer, is Stated to be without foundation. The ancestors of the present Worthy Baronet might repeatedly have been called to the Upper House, but always declined that honour, conceiving that the title of Sir Watkin, and being considered a Prince in Wales," was superior to that of a Dukedom. It is rumoured that a new Order of Knighthood will be instituted by the King, before he leave's Wvnnstay, in honour of Ins Royal Principality of Wales. It is to consist of the Sove- reign and twelve Companions, who are to be en. titled Knights of ancient Cambria." Sir Watkin Williams Wynn is expected to be the first of, the new creatioti. The advantages pendous hill through Newcastle. The advantages to be derived fiom these improvements will, no doubt, be very considerable, not only to the town of Bridgend but to the public at large. On Monday, in the presence of several gentle- men, whose curiosity was gratified by inspecting the process, a fine plate ol solid ■ silver weighing 286 lbs. was taken from the ftmelllllgtllrnace of Sir Christopher Hawkins's mine at Newlyn, And so rich does the mine continue, that we are informed another silver plate, perhaps of greater value, will be extracted in the course of a fortnight.— Cornwall Gazette. On Wednesday morning, the ebb-tide left en- tangled among some rocks, at the Old Passage, a very large specimen of what is vulgarly termed the Sea Toad. An active, clever young man, the head waiter at Beachley House, after a long struggle, succeeded in securing the monster, and dragging it on shore. The head and mouth were considerahly more than half its hulk; the diameter of the latter, when extended, was more than fifteen inches, and lined with small but very sharp teeth. It had a receptacle, or paunch, under each fin, capable of containing a couple of (ii)arts; and, in place of ventral fill", what very closely resembled two small human hands. It was put into a large bathing tub, but did not live long, Its weight Wd9 nearly a |-hundred and a half. ) "Ftthing. A melancholy accident occurred on -Monday, in the neighbourhood of Llandilo, in'consequence of a person who was driving a cart at-a vrry furious rate, which came iii contract with "the horse of a poor defenceless woman, with- a. chil l at Her breast; the horse became unmanageable, threw her off, and one ot the cart wheets went over the child and killed it on the spot. The woman also has been seriously injured, having hud her sitoiil- der dislocated, and three other ribs fractured; she I was conveyed to her home, and surgical aid from Llandilo was immediately procured. We are given to understand that she is likely to recover. We earnestly hope that the miscreant who drove the cart will meet with his due and merited reward. When ques- tioned the next day about .having had the pony in the fair, he denied it but whfjn he was taken be- fore the Rev. O. Monmouth Wool and; Cattle Fairs.—At the Wool Fair at this place, vdiÎch takes precedence of all in the district, being looked up to as fixing in some degree the prices of those which follow, we find that this great national staple, on Wednes- day, felt a depression of from 2s. Gel. to 3s. per stone, op last year's prices, it being sold from 15s. to 18s. per stone; and the$ale was father dull even at this reduction. The cattle fair on Tiles- day, had but a small shew offat beasts, but lean stock was very abundant, and the sale dull even at 10 per cent, below Abergavenny fair in May last. There were a greater number of horses than for many years past, but the buyers were few,.and very little business done. At Shrewsbury monthly fair on Tuesday and Wednesday, there was more than an adequate sup- ply of fat cattle: the sale very dull, and prices con- siderably reduced; fat beasts not fetching more than from 5 £ d. to 6d. per lb. Lean stock were much lower than at last fair, and but few pur- chasers. Many of both descriptions were sent home unsold. Sheep, of which there was a very abundant'-supply, averaged not mure than (id. per lb. (shorn). Pigs sold very dutl, and the prices de- quantity o^cfigeskwas smalf: ifitnTftairVea, Si.to 42S,; middle dairies, 45s. to 52s. (fairies, 555., to 63s. Butter none.
