We are sorry to state, that the Unity, Capt. Walker, from Portreath to Neath, with copper ore,"struck on the Mixen sands, near the Mumbles, on Monday night last, in a heavy gale of wind the sea making complete breaches over her, she soon went to piecesi and, melancholy to re- late, the Captain, a man and a boy, (being the. only per- sons on board) all perished. Great part oit the wreck, and the body of the boy, have been washed ashore here. The Moniteur of the 4th instant stages, that the Lisbon Packet, Jenkins, and the Friendship, Sincock, were carried into Dieppe, on the 29th by the French privateer Adolphe. Both these vessels were from, London for FalmoUth; and tlieir capture win be most severely fcttby the several shop., keepers of Falmouth, Penzance, Redruthy Truro, and the p (:[ neighbourhood. The Basset, Purchase, from London, similarly freighted, has not been heard, of these last three weeks, though four or five convoys have within that period arrived froiii the Downs; See, to Falmouth it is therefore concluded that she i< captured also. The ship Christiana Frances, Capt. Noble, arrived at Falmouth on Saturday last from Liverpool-, to "yait convoy for Berbice. On the preceding night, off the Lizard, she ran foul of the ship Three Brothers, Capt. Graham, from Dublin, bound to Dominica, and the latter went down.— The crew were saved. The outward-bound West-India fleet, consisting of 76 vessels, sailed on Monday last from Falmouth, under con- voy of the Busy sloop of war. The Lords of the Admiralty have ordered a Signal-post to be built and established on St. Maitni's-head, Scilly. We learn that the inspecting Field-Officer of this district has been called upon to make a return of the number of waggons properly fitted up, and in readiness with the volunteer corps under his- in- spection, to carry them to any place that may t ordered,"—We have not seen any thing of the ki, in this county, but we understa-nd throughout the English counties the farmers' waggons are aii pared and painted with the name of the co., which they are to be appropriated, Yesterday Captain Landeg's company of the Swansea and Gower Legion volunteered for pcr'.na- ncnt duty for 21 days; tor the laudable purpose of acquiring greater proficiency in luilitary discipline. The fifth battalion of Cannarthcuslme volun- teers, commanded by Majot M'Lean, were in- spected on. Friday-last,, at Lfanpri, by Col. Stewart, who expressed his entire approbation of their ap- pearance, and rapid progress in military acquire- ments. Lord Cawdorj and several gentlemen of distinction were on the ground. The battalion af- terwards volunteered to go on permanent duty for a limited period, and are expected shortly to as- semble in this town for the purpose;—The Car- marthen volunteers (third battalion) have also vo- lunteered to enter on permanent duty at Haver- fordwestsomfe time next month. The Itoyal Clarence volunteer infantry, com- manded by Owen Lloyd, Esq. were inspected a few days since at Cardigan by Col. Stewart, and justly merited his warmest approbation.-This fine body ofmenareindefatigable in their exertions to attain proficiency. Col. Lasscells' corps of Glamorgan riflemen marched from hence on Saturday morning last, on their return to Cardiff, having completed their 21 days of permanent duty. :Capt. The cotton-manufactory of Ainsworth and Co. in Preston, and two adjoining houses, were burnt, to the ground last week. Three gun-vessels have arrived in the Shannon from Dublin, for the defence of that river. Amongst the numerous candidates tor matri- mony, at Manchester, last week, was an honest Milesian, who, while marching up to the altar, happened to drop a hint how he meant to dispose of some part of his bride's property; her brother not approving of such an intent, a trifling alterca- tion ensued betweeh them, part of which was over- heard by the lzvdy, and roused her sentiment just as they had reached the altar, and the Parson had asked her name.—" My name, Sir," sa.id she, my name, to you, Sir, is Mary Johnson, but to this gentleman, (dropping a courtesy to her would-be spouse) my name is Mary—off; and so good morn- ing to you."
