ROYAL WELSH YACHT CLUB REGATTA*…
ROYAL WELSH YACHT CLUB REGATTA* CARNARVON. The annual Regatta came off yesterday, at Carnar- von, and was witnessed with admiration and delight, by a great number of spectators, who lined the old town wall, and every available spare along the sea shore. The day was ifne, though somewhat threaten- ing in the morning; but it cleared up brilliantly towards noon, and e^rything connected with the arrangement and management of this favourite acquatic sport, seemed to give entire satisfaction to those most immediately concerned, as well as others who were only attracted as sight-seers and lookers-on. A full report will appear next week.
ST. ASAPH, MONDAY, August…
ST. ASAPH, MONDAY, August 1. (Before H. L. Thomas, and W. S. Conway, Esqrs., and the Rev. W. R. Wyatt.) Margaret Ryles charged David Williams with using offensive language, and following her into her own house, and placing himself in a threatening attitude at if about to strike her. Mr. Meredith Williams appeared for the defendant, and contended that the woman was more frightened than hurt. They were neighbours in the same yard, and she gave him the utmost limit of her tongue which so provoked him, that he lifted his hands together, but did not strike her. The Bench finding the case a frivolous one, dismissed the same. Charlotte Jones charged Wro. Hughes with assault- ing her. The complaint arose out of a neighbouring squabble, io consequence of defendant's jealousy re- specting his daughter. He denied assaulting the wo- man, but the Bench thought otherwise, and ordered him to pay the costs, cr go to gaol. Jane Ellis charged Owen Jones with assaulting and abusing her.—Coinplainnnt lives at Rhudillan, and on the loth July, had occasion to scold a lad for trespass- ing in her garden, when defendant interfered, pushing her (an aged woman) up agains1 a wall and shaking her. She called witnesses to prove the offence, and defendant admitted treading On her toes, and kicking her shins.— The Bench considered he had acted cowardly, and fined him in 5s. and costs, or 14 days' imprisonment. Mr. P. Brown, the Chief Constable, attended to prefer a charge against Mr. 1*. D. Jones, spirit dealer, Saint Asaph, for leaving a car alongside the Canonry wall, which, in the case of another vehicle passing along-the thoroughfare would be obstructed. Sir. Browc said he had requested Mr, Jones to remove it, but he declined, and said he would appeal to the Magi-trates. Mr. Jones rejoined, there was as much room as usual. His car had stood there a long time, and no complaint had been made by any body but Mr. Brown, who called one day in a great passion, and threatened him with the consequences of refusal. He (Mr. Jones) remonstrated with him on his interference, reminding him if the po- lice paid more attention to robberies and other serious matters, and less to such trifles, it would be more be- coming of them-but he would not listen, and said he would summon him. Mr. Jones reasoned with Mr. Brown, that, as a car-owner, it was hard be could not have one stand before his own door; he liked to see them clean when applied for, and that would give him the opportunity but there was an ill-feeling onthe part of the Chief Constable towards him, and h. pre- sumed lie had taken this opportunity of displaying it. The Magistrates expressed their regret the case should have come before them, and wished it could have been sett:ed elsewhere, but they referred to the Act, which bore upon the obstruction, and which had been proved. Any one could turn informer, and it was the duty of the Bench to adjudicate upon it. Complainant observed, the car was intended as an advertisement; to which Defendant replied there was no doubt of it, if he had suffered it to remain unmolested. The Bench agreed Mr. Jones was one of the last who would wilfully infringe upon the laws of the township but as the fact of obstruction was proved, they would simply inflict the lowest fine of Is. and costs, which Air. Jones paid, as he said, to the memory of the LLANSILIN, FRIDAY, July 29th. (Before the Revs. W. Jones and M. Williams.) John Roberts, of Llanrhaiadr, and John Allen, of Penybont-fawr, were mulct, the former 1:1.. 6d., and the latter 9s. 6d., for being drunk and disorderly at Llanrhaiadr on the lith ult. Robert Hughes, of Llanrhaiadr, was fined, including costs, 9s. Gd., for a breach of the peace at the above town, on the 28th ult. Richard Hughes, Priddbwll, v. Mary Mary Morris, Driw, for defamation of character.-Adjourned until next meeting, John Hughes, Hnfotty, Llansiiin, was fined, in- cluding costs, 7S. 6d., for breaking the peace at the above place, on the 1st ult.; and also 15s. for an as- sault on police-constable Thomas Jones. Richard Davies and John Jones, combatants, and Robert Jones, abettor, were fined 4s. 6d. each for kick- ing up a row at Llansiiin, on the 30th ult. Susannah Owen v. James Davies, both of Tregeiriog. —This was an affiliation case, in which the defendant had to pay 18.. Gd. costs, and Is. 3d. weekly towards the maintenance of the child from that time out.
LLANRWST.—MONDAY, August 1.
LLANRWST.—MONDAY, August 1. Before W. Hanraer, E<q. (chairmin), H.R. Sandbacb, Esq., Admiral Walling, and R. O. Moulsdale, Esq. Robert Owen was fined 5s. and costs, for being drunk and disorderly. ASAPH J ines, 5s AND costs, for a like offence. Elizabeth Griffith, publican, Eglwysfach, was charged by P.C. John Jones, with having her house open dur- ing illegal hours, oft Sundiy morning the 10th of July. Fined £ 2 and 9s. 6d. costs. P.O. 29, summoned Robert Jones of Llangerniew, shopkeeper, for selling ale at Llangerniew fair, he not having a sign or his name over the door, on the 29th June lait. nor had he then any license. Inspector Hammond deposed to having spoken to defendant some days after, when he produced a license from the Inland Revenue Department, which he had obtained subsequent to the (air. But it came out in the evidence that defendant had obtained that license by a false certificate, which set forth that his house WAS rated at the sum required by law, whereas, the house, according to the collector's book, is rated at E3 only. Mr. Jones stated that he had been asked to alter the rate in his book to £10, which of course he declined doing. The Supervisor of excise, who happened to be in the town, was invited by the Bench to attend. He told their Worships that he would immediately report THE whole of the circumstances to the Board of Inland Revenue, and that the license so unfairly obtained should be cancelled without delay. Edward Parry, Belmont, charged John Griffith.Llan- rwst, with an assault, on the 10th July. Bound over in the sum of £10 to keep the peace towards E. Parry. costs 6s. 6d, Rich. Hughes v. David Hughes, who did not appear. These parties are brothers. The accused is in the fre. quent habit of annoying his brother. Has been before the magistrates, on a former occa-ion. On the 23rd ult., he went to his brother's house and struck him several timee. Fined £2 and costo, or six weeks' imprison- ment. An order was made for the removal ofJaneJonei from Llandogget, to the parish of Lianfairtalbeiarn.
