.OPERA WEEK AT BARRY I THEATRE…
OPERA WEEK AT BARRY I THEATRE ROYAL. A musical correspondent writes :— rrhe Theatre Royal, Barry, has pro- bably never been more uniformly filled with delighted audiences than curing the nrst half of the present week, when every seat was occupied nightly with thoroughly appreciative audiences to participate in the mag- nificent series of opera to which Mr. AllinLrton Charsley has this week treated the Barry public. 1 he week s series of this celebrated Opera Corn- ? panv, now probably the premier opera company in the Kingdom, opened on Monday evening with Verdi's 11 Travatore followed on Tuesday bv Wallace's Maritana, and on' Wednesday evening by Ver- di's Rigoletto." The company i numbers upwards of a hundred, and cverv member, both vocal and instru- mental, may be written down as a nrst-class artiste. The music is charming and delightful; the cos- tumes a\.nd stage effects are richly brilliant; and the works are placed on the stage and carried through in a I manner which fully anticipates the highest ideal of the famous com- posers. If t<he first three nights of the week are an indication of what is to follow, then we do not hesitate to ad- vise the music and opera-loving pub- lic of Barry not to miss the golden opportunity' of hearing, from the most accomplished company now travel- ling, the finest production of operatic works in the higher classics of music. On Thursday evening Wagner's Lohengrin will be presented; on Friday evening. Gounod's Faust on Saturday matinee, Donizetti's Daughter of the Regiment and on Saturday evening Balfc's 1' Bohe- mian Girl. We congratulate the Allington Charsley Grand Opera Company upon the inimitable suc- cess of their visit to Rarry. I
