We have great pleasure in learning that Mr. Stewart;, i who has for upwards of seven years filled the onerous and responsible position of accountant at the Bangor Branch of the National Provincial Bank of England, has been appointed Manager of the Branch at Cowbridge, in Glamorganshire. During his residence in Bangor Mr. 'Stewart has, by his courtesy and genial disposition, suc- ceeded in gathering around hima cluster of friends who, while rejoicing at his good fortune, will deeply regret the loss of so worthy and constant a friend. We ought to mention that Ir. Stewait has also held several otherim. portant public appointments; ar.d we can assure the people of Cowbridge that they will find him a thorough man of business, and a real acquisition to their neighbour. hood.

LLANDUDNO. I TOWN COMMISSIONERS. At the Monthly Meeting of the Llandudno Improve- ment Commissioners, held on Monday the 29tli day of June, 1863. Present, Rev. J. Morgan, B. A., Messrs. W. F. Chapman, T. Parry, James Williams, Thos. Jones, Jos. Jones, F. Madren, M. Prichards, Thomas Roberts, Richard Jones, Joseph Hughes. The minutes of the last meeting were read and con- firmed. The Finance Committee reported that they had ex- amined Bills to the amouut of £21 12s. Od. and recom- mended the same to be paid. Resolved that a cheque be granted for payment there- of, an follows: Mr. W. Brooks. for Road Wort; £21 12s. Od. The Committee further reported that the Collector did not attend before them on Saturday, but they under- stood that he had not paid anything further into the Bank since last meeting. The Collector being in attend- ance to-day, promised to pay £100, to-morrow. The Clerk read a letter from Messrs. Wyatt and Met- calfe acknowledging receipt of last resolution of this board, in which they stated that the Board of Trade did not require a copy of the amended Plan, and had it been necessary they would have lodged one, and further it was just possible that some arrangements may be come to, for dispensing with a provisional order. The Clerk read a letter from Mr. Steward, enclosing a copy of one he wrote to the London and North Western Company on the subject of the Pier. Now that the New Company had withdrawn, Mr. Steward's object was to ascertain whether the London and North Western Company were disposed to sell the present Pier and their rights therein to Mr. Steward and his friends. The Se- cretary of the London and North Western Co., had written to Mr. Steward stating that fiis letter should be laid before the Directors. This Board at present is unwilling to pledge itself to support the adoption of any Plan, without first being furnished with full parti- culars. Mr. Chapman called the attention of the Board to the imperfect manner in which the streets were watered, the parapets were never tcuched. He thought there ought to be another cart or two, however if they would accept of one he had, it was at their disposal, until they were in a position to buy one. Mr. Thomas Jones complained on behalf of the in- habitants of Madoe Street, that their street was never watered." Mr. F. Madren thought it would be a great improve- ment to the streets generally, if the loose stones were collected and removed. The Chairman thought there was something that was wrong, for in his native town, Aberystwith, the work of cleaning and watering was done more systematically. Mr. James Williams thought if this work was to be done, there must be a larger number of hands employed and the expense increased. Mr. Thomas Parry called attention to the danger of allowing donkeys to go along the walk round the head, also loose stones that want collecting. Mr. M. Prichards, stated that the donkeys were making use of the parapets and caused both dauger and nuisance. A note was read from the Misses Gibbon, complaining of the disgraceful state of the land opposite their house. A letter was also read from Mr. Roberts, landlord of the Adelphi Hotel, complaining of nuisance on the vacant land, opposite his house, belonging to Mr. Bird, and Mr. Warren. A Memori.il from the inhabitants of Madoc Street, complaining of nuisance from a slaughter house was read. The Survey or ?son was called to all these matters, and was directed to cause the removal of the nuisances com- plained of. ltl r. Chapman proposed that as regards the watering of the streets, it should be referred to the Roads Com- mittee, which was seconded by Mr. John Hughes. Mr. James Williams said that Mr. Thomas Roberts had said that there was no Roads Committee. N I r. T. Roberts as one of the Committee stated that some time ago a question was referred to them-they agreed to a report and recommendations which were not adopted by the Board. A warm discussion ensued between Messrs. T. Roberta, Jos. Jones, Thomas Parry. The matter how- ever dropped, and the Road Committee promised to act. Richard Evans applied for the appointment to the office of » Porter. H is application was supported by a petition numerously signed by inhabitants of the town. There being no vacancy at present his case stands over. Mr. Joseph Jones took the opportunity of observing that the practise of bribing Porters by some of the L?dgi-g-h-u-e keepers to bring Visitors to them, was being again resorted to, and he hoped some steps would be taken to stop it, either by granting badges to all the men about the streets, or cautioning Visitors against em- ploying any other than those already wearing badges. Mr. Chapman moved that half a dozen extra badges be ordered, which was seconded by hlr. T. Parry and car- ried. Resolved that this meeting be adjourned to Saturday, July 4th at Ten o'clock. LETURE on THE TELEGRAPH.—On Monday Evening W. Williams, Esq., of Mostyn Crescent, better known by his bardic and literary title of "Creuddyufab," gave a lecture on the Telegraph. Rev. R. Parry, Gwalch- mai," presided, who opened the proceedings in his usual clear and concise manner, and concluded by introducing Creuddynfab to the audience. The talented lecturer with great spirit and animation entered into his subject in the most masterly, clear and interesting manner. His explanation of the laws of nature, especially Electri. city, was most lucid, and evidently evinced great depth of thought, great study and practice. To do away with monotony necessarily on the elucidation of so abstruse a subject, Mr. Williams every now and then introduced shortaneoootes illustrative of his subject. On the plat- form was erected a Telegraphic apparatus, communicat ing with another in the gallery which were fullyexplain. ed and developed. Communications were then passed from one end to the other, handed in by any of the aud- ience, amongst which was the following, It is hoped that you will deliver this Lecturein English for the sake of the. English Inhabitants and Visitors." After a vote of thanks to the Chairman and the Lecturer the audience dispersed-

The Finance Committee being over, a meeting was held in the County Hall, at 2 o'clock p.m., to consider the desirability of adopting this act for Merioneth- shire. The following gentlemen were present-P. M. Rich- ards, Esq., chairman; G. P. Lloyd, Esq.; George Caiman, Esq. E. Peck, F.-I. J. Jones, Fsq. C. J. Tottenham, &q.; Ven. Archdeacon White; E. Williams, Esq., Gwernhefin. The CHAIRMAN, in the course of the meeting, spoke to the effect, that the subject they were assembled together to consider was very important, and had elicited the at- tention of this and adjoiuing counties, and all parts of the United Kingdom. He hoped they would consider the Act as it would be likely to act in this county only some difficulties, in certain localities, would inevitably; arise as to the proper definition of the term Highway what would be properly called so and what not; 18 ilk some parts there were many mountain roods which lead to farms, or turbaries; if these were all taken in as highways it would incur considerable expense. He re- marked, in severe terms, of the shameful state of the roads, which he very milch regretted, and the unpar- donable carelessness of the stirveyom-this Act must be adopted, or something must be done without delay. He read the opinions of the Chairmen of Quarter Sessions in other and adjoining counties on the Acts and its ope- rations, &c. Col. TOTTEMHAM said the Act had been adopted through the whole of Denbighshire, and believed its ten- dency, as a whole, to be œnefid,o¡], while he thought it was more calculated to suit England than Wales. He suggested the division of the county into three districts, according to the Petty-Sessional divisions. He commen ded the |>rinc:ple of the Act, and the expenses of carry- ing it into effect would be no more than at present. After some further discussion J, JUNES, Esq. proposed, and C.&T. TOTTENHAM, Esq. seconded, That the general principles of the Highway • Act be adopted for this County." L. WILLIAMS, Esq, proposed the following amendment, which was seconded by J. The latter missed a pair of trowsers on the 2nd of May. The prisoner had gone home on the Saturday morning. Ho did not lend him, or authorise him or anybody to take them. G Gilbertson, Esq., Bala. It may be right to state, as the Chairman remarked, that but few of these crimes were committed by per- sons from this county, but most of them by vagrants and tramps who take advantage of the distress in Lan- cashire and the introduction of railway communication into the county.

I LLANDRILLO-YN-KHOS. LADIES' CLUB.—We are particularly desirous of calling the attention of our readers to this most in- teresting annual treat, which took place on Thurs- day, knowing the great pleasure it has afforded to all who have participated in it in former years, and the additional exertions, that have been put forth this year, in order, as far as possible, to increase the interest of the occasion. Of the blessing which the existence of such Clubs as this confer upon the country we need say but little,- the philanthropic and charitable principles upon which they are based, are sufficient to recommend them to the sympathy and support of the British public, who, thank God, are not found wanting in their countenance and sup- port of everything that tends to the amelioration and welfare of their fellow creatures. But this Club, having its existence in a strictly rural district, and diffusing ita benefits over a widely-scattered country, has a somewhat peculiar claim upon our con- cideration. Unlike similar clubs in large towns, it has but few local patrons to support it, and hence it becomes an arduous task upon those who are really and actively engaged in the work, to keep it in a prosperous state, and to extend still further the operation of its usefulness. The profits arising from the sale of tickets, and dona. tions of the annual gatherings in former years, have been a material assistance to this end; and as the two last years were not 80 successful in their results as could have been wished, the weather having been unfavour- able, we sincerely trust that the attendance this year may more than make up for the past. The day's programme was as follows: the Members of the Club assembled at Mochdre, and proceeded henee, headed by a brass band, to attend Divine Service in the Parish Church at about 12 o'clock at about 8 o'clock they returned to Mochdre, where tea, with all the usual concomitants, provided and served in a spacious mar- quee, at which all the leading families of the surround- ing neighbourhood kindly assisted between 5 and 6 o'clock dancing commenced, for which an efficient quad- rille bancMiad been engaged, and the whole entertain- ment brought to a close at 9 o'clock.
