THK INDIAN FAMINE FUND.—The sum of £6 6s. lid., was collected by the Hev. H. H. Hughes, towards the Indian Famine Fund, in the parishes of Lligwy and Llanwenllwyfo. FATAl. ACCIDENT.—A child was burnt to death in Pensarn, near Llanwenllwyfo, 4 days ago. The mother had only left the house for a few minutes, and returned to find the poor child burnt to death. CARNARVON MILITIA.—Wo understand the Carnarvon- shire division of the Itoyal-Anglesey and Carnarvonshire Militia, now assembled at Carnarvon for 28 days training, are making most satisfactory progress at drill, and are to be inspected on Thursday morning next, by General Sir John Jones, late commanding officer of the 1st Batt. 60th Rifles. Great praise is due to Col. M'Donald for doing away with the old billeting system at public houses. During the present training, respectable private lodgings having been procured for all the men, and the effect in their appearances an,1 behaviour is quite mar- vellous, a change which they themselves generally seem to appreciate. THE BISHOP OF SALISBURY AND DR. R. WILLIAMS.— The Bishop of Salisbury states, in a letter to Arch- deacon Buckle, that he has informed Dr. Rowland Williams, whose name is prefixed to one of the Essays and Reviews," that he has determined to institute legal proceedings against him in the Court of Arches. The right rev. prelate adds:—" I have come to this decision most reluctantly, and only after the most anxious consi- deration of the consequences which may arise out of the course whieh I have now adopted. But my duty seems clear. As I still agree with the opinions expressed in the letter addressed by the Archbishop of Canterbury on February 12, to one of my rural deans, the Rev. H. B. Williams, with regard to this and the other essays, and as I believe (on the very best advice) that the writer of this essay has brought himself within the reach of the eccle- siastical law, I cannot escape from the conclusion that I am bound to endeavour to show that the Church of En- gland does protect her members against such false teach- ing as is contained in different parts of Dr. lowland Williams's essay. I will only further say that the feel- ing of my clergy, as expressed W me both prirately and in public addresses, with regard to this essay, has iiuickened my own sense of responsibility about it, and that I am now acting in full reliance on then- prayers that the issue of these proceedings may be such as to vindicate the truth of God, and that we may be all kept from mixing up with the pure feeling of loyalty to the Church of England any leaven of bitterness and want of SCHOOL TIUP TO CARNARVON.—On the 23rd inst., the Vaynol .School consisting of the two first ChWiCJI of boys and girls were treated by Capt. E. W. Tliom.us, the organist of St, Ann's, presided at the harmonium, in a manner greatly to hw own credit and to thc &\tiiiaetion of all. The soh sing- ers were Mr. W. Howell, (Jlan Ogwen, and Mr. and MiN Armstrong, from the PhJhann01Jic vcty, Livevpool. The solo parts were admirably suug, especially those sttng by Miss Armstrong. The conductor ueedeth u., recom- meudatiun from us, because the very able manner in whieh he conducted the choir, proves him to be one of the first, conductors in the country. The choir did its work well. The choruses are vety difficult, especially Nos. IS and .i<>; but they were ail sung in a manner that reflected the greatest credit upon the choir, and its inde- fatigable leader. Really, it is astonishing to think that a choir, consisting entirely of working men, was able to perfornl 8ueh a piece or IU11:;ic with such accuracy and effect. The large chapel was crowded with the most lit. tentive audience, which gave unu:iot:lkcaLI" signs of ap. probation. During the interval, Letween the second aud third parts, Eo Evaus, Esq., Erw Fair Terrace, Bangor, proposed, and the Rev. S. Davies seconded--YThat the most cordial and sincere thanks of the meeting be given to Lady Louisa Douglas Pennant, for her kindness in allowing the eoncert to be held under her patronage," which was carried with acclamation. Mi. Evans, in moving the above resolution, observed, that the spirit of that prophecy, "And kings shall be thy nursing fathers and their queens thy nursing mothers, was already real- ized with them. The Rev. S. Davies, in seconding this same, remarked, that before he came To this neighbour- hood he was at a low to know what was the sucrd of (ol. Pennant's great influence over so many thousands of the inhabitants of this country; he knew that it was publicly insinuated that he reigned over them with a rod of iron, but for some time now he haa had great advan- tage to judge for himself; and he found that Col. Pen, nant reigned in the hearts of his men, The rev, gentle- umu tu>;n r-.i^L CoI. ]J.mniLnt.'it. letter. which proved his readiness to jjatronize such a meeting, After the reM. ing of the letter the audience gave Vent to their feelings in thunders of applause. The Hev. John Jones expressed his thanks to those present, and especially to W. Franies, Esq., Brynilerwen, for the encouragement they gave to the laudable efforts of the choir, in attend- ing the concert. Who would have thought, a few years ago, that a choir of working men would be able to per- form one of the most ditticult of Handel's Oratorio's ? But such is the fact. From the very bottom of our hearts do we wish such noble efforts every success.

ABERGELE. SUDDEN DEATH.—On Friday, the lith inst., an inquest was held before E. Pierce, Eilq., coroner, on the bmiy of a young man, named Richard Jones, aged 18 years, who lived with his uncle and aunt at Tanrallt-bach, near Abergele. On Wednesday previously just before dinner he went to the garden, and was in full enjoyment of his usual health, and had not been there upwards of half an hour, when his aunt went to call him iu, but to her horror, found hit. lying on the ground quite dead. CARNARVON. COUNTY COURT.—This Court was held on Wellnesday last, before E. L. Richards, Esq. There were 120 plaints entered, and about 60 set down for hearing, none of which were of the slightest public interest. VOLUNTEER TKIP TO SNOWDON.—A large number of the Volunteers started from the armoury at half-past nine o'clock in the morning of Monday last, arriving at the Dolbadarn Hotel at I I where they partook of a good luncheon. They then marched up to the summit of Snowdon, which they reached about 2 p.m., where they remained two hours.
