Jonesaatd It has bt cn 10 much the fmhlon, of lata, to .orlb" t)io tuccnivo infant mortality to the foeding bottlo that 1 take thia opportunity of saying a few wordn on the matter. I am now supposing that a sub ititute for the natural ailment U reiiulrod-for I nrnat C".f.0, In my praotioe, th<it mothers are loth to give the bottle to their children, and a »ory large proportion come under treatment for over luctatlon. What can be 'a? ge'tfd better than a feedm? bottle, provided it t? kpt Ieau Md sweet h.t??er modification of the present arrangement is made, I mallltain that evety infant alight to be fed In a manner as similar to the natural way as possible,4 for eucklng in the ohild is equivalent to mastloa.- (ion in the grown up, I therefore vonture to eug- geet that harm is not in the vehicle, but ia the quality and quantity of the contents; most mothers being totally ignorant of the proportion of water, salt, aDd bit. augar required in a quantity of milk. It Is to render the cow's milk more diges- tible that the addition of water or limci-water is re- commended; as cow's milkcoagulø.te. in hard gelA- trncus male, while the cisein of woman's milk coagulates in small tloeuhr pieces. Tie use of fariDaoeouø artlolea most always be guarded agninst in children under the age of three months, itticicncy of saliva before that time rendering the proper digestion of starch difficult. The tempora- tuie of milk is also important to attend to, as It should not be gi ven higher than 100 degress or lower than 90. An nlldno period Intervenee botwoon tho birth and tho putting of the child to the breast, and in the meantime it is fed by alt sorts of things according to tho whim of the nurse in atten- dance. Tho use of broad soaked in water, arrowroot, sago, cornflour, biscuiti, in young infants, produce 10 many Rutrio derangemente that the mothers, in order to get a little rest, aro often tempted to give gin, syrup of popples, paregoiic, Godfrey's Cordial, bteedman's Powder, and, last but not the least effectual in pro- ducing sleep, Hay man 's lialmm of Horehound. Another source of many disorders i. that of allowllJg infantB to rpmaln in their cradles and tucking at the bottles after the contents are taken. Many authors have written on this subject under the head of "Fruitless sucking," and attribute to it many of the ailments of in- fancy. It is quite common fo see babies fed en whatever the parents may have for dinner. Illegitimate children, as a rule, nearly all die, TRitly from the inability of the person farming' them to get the proper quantity of nillk-for It netd hardly be mentioned that when the profits are deducted very little will remain to recompense tho person farming-setting aside altogether the -fluestion of warm olothlng, which is also, in this variable -a se,??e ii..t.t essential. ChU- I ip,,f"tly mvered lrom the emptive f?:e allowed to ?- about In the street., almost before the lash has disappeared, is another soured of mortality. Anothei matter which hu struck me that an association like this should take up Is, the education of mldwlves, and to set our faces against the present practioe of laying out dead bodies, dressing wounds, and erysipelatous and pywmic cases. I am quite satif fied a good deal of metritis end the puerperal fever we see arises from these causes. After other papers had been read and debated, the council adjourned. THE BANQUBT B.b,, e.tly tok place in the 1-?g- room of the I ¡::TIt1irl: when Ilhe gentlemen :k named, with Dr. George, were present. After the removal of the the cloth, Dr. EDWABDR, the president, proposed "The health of the Queen," "The Prince and Princess of Wales, and the rest of the Royal Family," which were recdvEd with immense cheering. The PBKSIDKST next proposed The health of the Alroy, Navy, Militia, and Volunteers," coup- ling with it the names of Major Oresswell, of Dow- lais, and Major Hall, of Swansea, ,who responded. The PRESIDENT in proposin g The Health of the Bishop and Clergy and Mi.,te.f all denomina- iicts," acknowledged, in eloquent terms, the aerv- ices of the clergy of all denominations io their wwstentatious and constant caie towards the poor of the country. The toast was coupled with a forclbJe allusion to the Rev. Canon ilenkina. The Rev. The He?. Dr. GIOBGE, U.Itarief?Nfi?Uter, &W responded. The Rev. Canon JENKINS proposed" The Health of the President, Dr. Edwards." The PKISIDEKT spoke of the unabated pleasure he experienced in participating in the proceedings con- nected with the &B8(>ChtiQn, believing that, as these meetings were multiplied, they must enhance the posh ion of the wholf profession. Dr. DYKE proposed The Health of Dr. Sheen, the Secretary," who retponded with expressions of surprise at the hcspuality shown them, and the splendid provision afforded at Aberdare. The next toast given was that of The Healths of Drs. Jones and Davles, of Aberdare," who re- sponded. Other toasts followed, and the proceedings were brought to a close.

THE FINS ARTS IN CARDIFF. I We have been favoured with a private view of an extenllve and exceedÚlgly valuable øelectlon of works of art and decorative property which has been placed by Mr. II. Levy, jun., of Baker-street, London, in the Assembly-room of the Cardiff Arms Hotel, and which will be publicly exhibited during the next two days prior to their being offered for sale by public auction on Tueiday and Wednesday next. The collection includes almost every branch of artioles de luxe, and contains apeolmen. of some of the most ati?mu- f.1 ?ff.rt. f thel Cinque Cento, Louis Qaatorze, and Louis S:fzeidouha; is in Ulelf well worthy of attention, some of the bmtt, and especially a replica of Gibson's tinted bet. The deceased came to witness's room about five minutes to one o'clock on Tuesday morning, and just opened the door. On looking in he saw that witness was dressing, and went away without speaking. Wit- ness then proceeded to the stables, and attended to the horses. About a quarter- past six he heard a slight noise, like that which would be occasioned by a tub falling. It did not excite any suspicion in his mind, and he continued his work. Spencer, informing her that the deceased gentle- wan had shot himself. Witness had been with Mr. Spencer about nine weeks, and noticed that for the lasttwodayshe seemedunweil. lie appeared to be very low-splrlted, and unable to tell witness what to do. When witness saw the eon last it was in the front kitchen of the house, behind the door. It was generally hung up t. a beam in the room. The back kitchen was detached from the house. Harriet Kensington, a domestic servant, stated that she had been in the employ oi the deceased gentleman for five weeks. Singe she had been at Mill Farm a great change was observ- able in Mr. Spencer, who looked very strange, ap. peared greatly depressed, and would walk about as if not knowing what to do with himself. He was much worse during the present week, and appeared more low-spirited on Sunday than witness bad ever seen him to be before. He did scarcely anything but walk about the rooms and constantly talked' of hil cattle. On Sunday witness sawhimetatiding in the garden for a long time knocking up dirt with his stick, and talking to himself. She then came to the oonoluslon that there was something wrong with his mind. Witness arrived at Mill tann about a quarter-past twelve, and found the deceased lying on his back in the kitchen. There was a single-barrelled gun by his side. The muzzle of the gun must have touched the bridge of the nose, the deceased moving the hammer or trigger with his foot, as he could not reach it with his hand.
