The buying has mostly been contined to those connected in pome way with the coal trade, as the outside public are very little aware of the enormous extent of the property, and the great alteration in valne which the rise in coal during the last few months has broug-ht about. We believe that tho company own altogether about seven miles of property, and recent sink- insrs have resulted in the opening up of new and valuable seams. A. an iron company large sums in the past have been lost, and a some. what unenviahle reputation gained as a money losing concern. Of late, however, the manufac- ture of iron has been practically superseded by the raising and selling of coal, and, when it is remembered that the eompany were working and obtaining large prices nearl7 the whole of the time when other pits in tho district were stopped, it is not surprising that those in the Vn.; havL been anxious to Secure all floating shares.
