North Wates Chronicle Tobacco Fund In response to the constant cry from Flanders and the Dardanelles for more cigarettes and tobacco, we have opened this Fund to send smokes "o the men who have left this district. Will you help us, for the district's sake? SMOKES FOR oNt LOCAL HEROES! In spite of what has already been done for I the men at the Front, there remains much more to do. OurgalIantheroes.whetherinFlandera I or elsewhere, ask for few comforts, but they do ask, urgently and continually, for cigarettes and tobacco. This n true of practically all of them, but we appeal especially on behalf of the lads who have left this district I This is a local effort for local men. Other districts are lookmg after their own friends, and it surely behoves us to took after ours I 30 Cigarettes. 2 OZ8. of Mixture. I The need for this useful and patriotic work has been emphasised by Sir lan Hamilton, by high officers on the Continent, and commanders at sea. Will you help us in it now? We have completed arrangements with Messrs. Martins, Ltd., the well-known tobacco firm, to supply our local regiments in France acd the Dardanelles on the most favourable terms possible. Through this firm, we are able to send the cigarettes and tobacco duty-free, carriage-free, and with free distribution, as the Government, the War Office and the Admiralty have granted these privileges, Thanks to these arrangements, we are able j to send :— 30 Cigerettes and 2 <M:s. oi Tobacco for every sixpence subscribed. Thus, if yoa subscribe a sovereign, we will send a parcel. as described above, to 40 men, or we can send to a commanding oScer, for distribution, well over a thousand cigarettes and 6ve pounds of tobacco. If you sent forty parcels yourself, the postage alone would be 42, and the cost of the cigar- ettes and tobacco probably [J more. Therefore this is the most economical way in w}]ich you can send smokes to our local heroes. fighting so gallantly for their King and country. All the money you send is spentt entirely ia tobacco and cigarettes. We do not deduct one penny for working expenses, our services being gladly given free, Indeed, we are as pleased to undertake our share of this patriotic work as we expect you will be. If you prefer, you may have your parcels addressed to an individual soldier or sailor. but this entails delay, as FREE delivery through the Military Forwarchng Authorities to individuals takes much logger than the Parcels Post. If, for eccabmy's sake, you will risk this delay, it is necessary when individuals to give full particulars, regimental number, rank, name, company, and battalion. Let us now briefly give you the advantages of our Fund :—(l) It is employed solely to send tobacco and cigarettes, which they need more than anything else. to soldiers and &ai!ors. (2) It is used on Cigarettes and Tobacco only, without deducting one penny for working et* pensea, duty. carriage. or distribution. (3) r. is intended, primarily, to benent our local regiment?, but a subscription can be given to any regiment you choose, 90 that any Mends abroad may benent. (4) It helps to put the Boya at the Front in touch with home and kindre<L This last-named advantage deserves sp:cia! .tention. In every payee! we send, wq enclose a return postcard, addressed to the jl.vrr. 80 that the recipient of yoMf gift can wfite you personalty to exptes hii thanks. These post- cards wiU be Inf,elrestin.S()uvnlrs of the great war from men of ycof &wn district who bought in it. Will yoa help us make this fund a striking auccesa ?
