AS80C!AT!ON CODEI
AS80C!AT!ON CODEI Soccer in Aberdare. I TIME RIPE FOR A REV)VAL One of the greatest cet-bvks the Associa, tion game has had locally during the last few seasons is the loss of the Aberdare club. If I put the adjective famous in front of Aberdare I shall only be telling the simple truth. For a. season, well remem- bered by every enthusiast in South Wales, Aberdare's reputation, as the leading Southern club, was challenged, and, it may be, eclipsed, by the meteor-like rise and brilliance of the neighbouring Aberaman club. But like the meteor. Aberaman vanished, and left as it? memorial the .iremory of wh.a'i. a. few whole-hearted enthusiasts could do in the shortest possible time. Other seed clubs have also gone the way of Aberdare. as I have referred to in a pre- vious week this season. Take Perth, for instance. But go far as we are given to understand, there was only one reason why the Perth club could not cofnturue. As that one reason happened to be the essential and vital one of having no longer a, ground, the position waa accepted with what calmness we could call up. With Aberdare this is dilferent. The ground is still in Aberdare, and is to this day used in the wjnter time for football. No good will be done by hark- In" back ? ?°y causes of the disbanding of t? ne A? berdaro organisation. Thp officials came to a decision which they considered he best, and what. everybody is now asking is—Is it impossible to re-form the club? Is it not possible once more to ha.ve a club, a. Soccer club, in what was. and I believe still is, a district which numbers its Soccer enthusiasts -by thousands? The possibility is a question for cur Aber- d'Are friends to settle. The desirability or such an event is one on which every South Lallan is absolutely unanimous. No argu- ment can take place on that. From Abcr- cynon to Aberdare the whole valley has at different times felt a pride in the great ctubs now no more. Mountain Ash, Aber- Rman, and Aberdare. The followers of the< code are still living there. Take Aberdare ai.me. I often wonder Tlow these keen enthu- siiisto feel this season now that there is no club for them to take an interest in Satur- day by Saturday. What do they do with themselves? Go to see flie Rugby club there? But if th&y do. I should be inclined to wager, if I were a betting man. that they go to make the b&st o.f a bad job To -put myself safe from "D. II. B." and "Forward." who may accidentally stumble across this column, let me, .as a Soccer man. say that, wblle I cannot understand tlheir enthusiasm and madness for tncir code, there a.re some good points ajbout Rugby football. But. stiU, if I were an Aberda.rian I should look upon tne Rugby on the Athletic Ground much in the aajne manner as I can imagine a house- holder apprecia'tin.s; the rresence of the "man in pOtS&cssion." I am certain that, try as I would to face t'ne situation, memories would crowd on me of some of the red-hot keenness which t.he game had bem rc3ponsible for. To k-p in the twentieth century alone. Mtere t-hat grpat day fhen, in the pouring rain, f. monstrc attendance witnessed the dr.a.vn leaeue mat<;h wit'h Aberaman. As I haTpened to be hono.ured with tlhe that day, I krtew what I am talkin? about. The na.tch with Afton ViDa; the time when Aberda.ro fairly and squarely beat tfhe etro.nK Shemeld United tca.ci. Surely, the code which provided g'?mes like these is not abso- lutely dead in Aberdare. I re-illy feel sym- ¡ pathetic towar(ig the Sccncr men of \bf'r- dare. who can only ro-<'all mpm<'ries of the past. S'treiy. they drcfrn of <ther glorious times in the future. 13 not an Aberdare Soccer club still The cry is the game in aTl the Soccer d.ist,r-k1ts i.T'. So'uth Wa.Ies. Nay, it is more than a. cry: it is—a waM. a h,m:11ct.. It is o.n.iy bare truth to state that Most attra.otive tlxt1J,e en a.'ny home ma.tch-n<, "ras lccal ('hI h tb,itt, cxpP0t{\d Abcrdare on the com.i'ng .Saturday. Barry, a'nd t.he others would welcome .and rejoice as mudi a. tfhe n-ative AhelI"da.ri'aóll if the c!ub wa.s still in tne )and of the Jivin.g. Doubt me 'Eh;s little article' is the .outcome of my es'psrien&es round t.he local c!ubf!. and more, cRpt-cia.By. froii) many notea which I have received from Aberdare itself. The enthu- siasm in a. fresh start in Aberdare itself would be intensified by 'the simple fact tha.t the town has been without a club for season. A tbjna' lost is often a, thing cra.ved for. If anyone is c'ouragooua enough to make a move, now i.s the time. There is <'very opportunity and plenty of time in which to get everything ready for a, start, a. rea;1 sttrt, when geason opens. The !ocal co.mpetitio.ne are still open for entry. the Welsh Sen,ior Cuo is still waitii'a' a home in the South, and the example of Trebarris and Newport in entering the Western League could be followed as a. means of g-i"ing variety to the loca,l grames. Can miyone begin by calling a prelirniiiir-, 1Ut'et!llg of ii,<,i,ld-be supporters? I hope th.tt no one will assume that I am atteinpti:ig to t?..oh a¡nyon<, his own slmp1y glYln utterance to suggestions witti which I Jjave been favoured. Many can do what it is not fair to expect an iudividua.1 to do,'and I am given to under- stand. puttmg two-a.nd two tog'et-her. that a sug'gestion. for auc'h a meeting would be keenly supported, it only wants a nwyer- or movers.. 8-o far as vhat prince of secretaries, Mr. T. D. Jones. is still in Aber- dare, and he is sttil an enthusiast for the ,game, a.nd is reokQn'ed as snc'h. as is s.hown by his eleotjon on, and attendance at, th< coTn'mittpa of the South Wales Football Associ:wt,ion. But. I put it to any man. Is it fair to .expect Mr. Jones to take a etep which wouM, pcph'aps. rc,tilt in his being asked to t,ake on the secretaryship? I do not know wh,?tlh.r he wou)d or not, but surely his support to any movement which could be seen to be gen'iTal, unanimous, amd well backed may be anticipated.. Cf Late yc'ars the club at Owm,a.mtan has Tnade rapid prog:re&a. But not even at Owm'a'm'a.n could fthere b'a HDy c'bjection to the re-formation of an Aberda.re club. Home .matches need not cla&h. Who knows but that the home nnd home matches c'f these two would be a reviving' of the enthusiasm of the Aherdare a.nd Abera/maTi days? If any clu.b would beac&t it would be Owm'am'a'n. The many junior Association clubs of the Aberd.;ire, district would aJso share in the reeultin? good. Ijook at the prc-p'osa'1 as one will, the desirableness of it strikes one in. the face every time. What a<bout ita Bossibili'ty? TRtHARR!S. I Owing to the fact tba.t the Poulton Rovers were engaged in a.n English Cup m.a.tch, their nxture with Traharris last SatuTda-y was cancelled. Treha-rrisitea were naturally disappointed, but it waa to some extent relieved by the district meeting Nelson at Troha.rris. Tho&e who took the trouble .to witness the m'aftch were well re-paid, the game being of a. Tery hig'h order. Walter and Sa,m Davies were as vigorous aB ever, while W. The district are developing into a. sma.rt combma.tio'n, eome phases of their play savouri-n, more of a. ftrot rather than a. team. Wh'Ue the juniors were enjoying them- selves in a. eemi-bath on the sodden ground at home, the firsts journeyed to OwTmpark. However, to their disgust, the neM, owing to tib-e rain, was rende.red un&t for play. ?

Skittfe Chat 'I
Skittfe Chat GREYHOUNDS BEATEN: CARDIFF CITY BEATEN These two surprises are talk of the our local world this week. The teams are the leaders in the league table, and neither expected a. reverse, and. all owing to 'the same old fault. When a. teajn is doing well, t-h-ere are some who let well alone and must needs experiment. This was very much so in the Cardiff City team. About half cf their best players were left out for the'match with the Central Liberals, the idea, I suppose, bting that they had rather a soft thing on. Events proved other- wise, and the selection committee should learn a- lesson. Previous to this match they were the only te-ana in the league, hut their re-cord has now gone. The Liberals rolled well, Whitecross and Gardner especd. aNy so. Although only winning by two pins, the Canton Conservatives are to be congratu- lated upon. their very meritorious display against each strong opponents as the Grey. hounds. They are no.w above the Bu'to Docks and Plymortth Rocks. The Coloots in their match wth Splott Con. servatives, beat all previous records on their own aHey by totalling 414 pins. They started with a lead of three, and kept in front all throTig'h, eyentTta.lly winn'ing' by 30 pins. Idris Morgan haa Decovered his form again, serins' & good 38, but has some way 'to go before he catches up with his captain. who has the best a.verage in the team. Just one hip" to the referpe. A ball that touches tihe floor immediately it lea-ves the pla.yer'8 hand and then boun.oes oveT the mark, shou'ld not be disallowed. Keep your eyes on tihe player, not have them glued to the mark only." P-lymou-til Ro-c'zs visi,d Perarth, and a< very exoitTDig nniah resulted, the home tea.m. winnd-n,.g by just a eoupie. Hobbs failed txadly on the last roll, otherwise the Rocka would ha-ve won. The Alberts, who were without a league nxt.ure. visited the Mackintosh Institute for a, friendly. A most enjoyable ma/tch was rolled, tlie Mackintosh comin? out on top. The O'dd!fell<ywa a,re now rolling' themseJvea into form. They beat the RoatAi Laberals -fairly all the way. The Roath boys rolled well, more especially the last rOll when they rolled 85. The Oddfellows, however, just topped this by one, Dick Price, the laat man, having to get nine pins to do it. Sid Howe has just come back into form. His 46 was got by excellent skittling'. Gbe!lin:g," from Gloucester," is also btck, and greatly atrenet'hens the Odd 'Uns."
