p" BARRY FOOD CONTROL COM- MITTEE. TEA OMITTED FROM THE 1 REGISTRATION CARD. » A meeting of Barry Food Control Committee was held on Wednesday evening last, Mr. J. E. Levers, J.P., presiding. Present, Messrs. J Mar- shall, S. R. Jones, W. Fowler, Howell Williams, J. A. Manaton, E. G. Dobson, Mrs. Taylor, and Nlrs. Cheeke. It was reported by the Executive Officer (Mr. T. B. Tordoff) that the food cards for South Wales and Mon- mouthshire Rationing Scheme had been received from the Ministry of Food, but provision for the rationing of tea had not been included therein. Mr. Marshall was in favour of send- ing the cards back to the Ministry, and having them printed locally. Mr. Manaton moved and Mr. Fow- ler seconded, that the cards be sent out for registration without alteration, and to include tea again if found necessary. This was agreed to, Mr. Howell Williams dissenting It was decided to allow quarter of a pound of margarine per head this week- end. On the proposition of Mr Marshall it was resolved to point out to the Live Stock Commissioner at Carmarthen the facilities which Barry possessed for be- coming a meat distribution centre. Mr Marshall said the intention was to set np centres in the connty where there were slaughter-houses, in order to ensure prompt distribution of meat.

DISCHARGED BARRY SOL- DIER KILLED IN MUNI- TIONS EXPLOSION. Mr. John Harold Chaney, son of I Mr. and the late Mrs. John Chaney, formerly of 24, Newland-street, Barry Docks, was one of the victims in the explosion which occurred at a Muni- tion Factory in South Wales on Fri- day last. He had been employed at the factory for just a year, and it was on the first day of his second year that the explosion occurred. He had been discharged from the 1/2 Monmouth- shire Regiment, and was formerly a pupil at Barry County School. the boclv was brought home for interment at Barry Cemetery. Mr Winston Churchill, the Minister of Munitions, has wired stating that the King had commanded an expression of his deep sympathy, and that of the Queen, with the relatives of deceased in their loss.

BARRY TRADESMAN'S SON I AMONGST THE VICTIMS. Another of the line of merchant steamers belonging to Messrs. Evan Thomas. Radcliffe and Company, Cardiff, was torpedoed and sunk in the Mediterranean on February 10, amongst the victims being Mr. Archi- bald James Lisle Jenkins (Archie), eldest son of Mr. J. A. Jenkins, builder, and Mrs. Jenkins, 282, Hol- ton-road, Barry Docks. He was an old pupil of High-street Council School, and after about twelve months in the office of Messrs. J. Rank, Ltd., he served his apprenticeship for the merchant service. Mr. Jenkins was in his 26th year; and his youngest brother, Sidney Stuart, was killed in action in France in April last.

PLEASANT EVENING FOR WOUNDED SOLDIERS AT BARRY. On Wednesday week last a most de- lightful evening was provided for the wounded soldiers from Windsor-road Red Cross Hospital by the Co-opera- tive employees of the Nos. 2, 3 and 4 Branches. The ladies were tastefully I attired in fancy dress costumes, repre- I sentative of the Allied countries, pierrots, etc. Much interest and amusement was caused by the com- petitions, the hair-dressing competi- tion being very amusing, and substan- tial prizes were given. Mr. Owen was pianist, and Mr. King violinist, Cor- poral Heard being a very capable M.C. Much praise is due to the ladies, who all worked energetically to help to cheer our wounded heroes. A most enjoyable evening closed with the National Anthem.

FELL AT DOCK SIDE. Whilst walking along the south side of Barry Docks, Gunner Grimes, of the Royal Marines, on Tuesday even- ing last-, fell and injured his back. He was taken to the Hamadryad Hospital, Cardiff, in the Barry Red Cross motor ambulance, and detained.

OUR BRAVE HEROES AT THE FRONT. BARRY-AUSTRALIAN KILLED I IN FRANCE. I Official information has now been received, intimating that Private Thos. William Healey, 34th Battalion, Aus- tralian Imperial Forces, and eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Healey, 36, Commercial-road, Cadoxton-Barry, who was previously reported missing in France on October 12th of last year, was killed on that date. Private Healey was 25 years of age, and after three years spent in Australia, en- listed nearly two years ago. He had been in France twice, having been in- valided some time ago with trench feet. His wife lives at 70, Broad- street, Barry, formerly of 34, New- land-street, Barry Docks. Mr. and Mrs. Healey's second son, Private Frederick George Healey, Royal En- gineers, joined at the commencement of the war, and is now at the Front for the third time. I BARRY A.B. AGAIN WOUNDED. Mrs. Freeman, 12, Kingsland-crescent, Barry Docks, has been officially notified that her son, Able-Seaman Joseph Free- man, Royal Naval Division, has been severely wounded in the right arm with gunshot, and has been admitted to hospital. Seaman Freeman has been on active service in France since September last, and was previously wounded in October.

MARRIAGE OF LIEUT. P. W. F. RENDELL. At Shiloh C.M. Chapel, Aberyst- wyth, on Friday last, a military wed- ding was solemnised between Second Lieut. P. W. T. Rendell, B.E.F., and Katie, youngest daughter of Mrs. E. Jenkins, of Princess-street, Aber- ystwyth. The bride was given away by her brother, Mr. E. E. Jenkins, and was attended by Miss Mary Jen- kins and Miss Hettie Jones. Sergeant R. C. Rendell, R.E., B.E.F., brother of the bridegroom, ivas best man. Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Rendell, Barry, parents of the bridegroom, were also present. After the wedding break- fast, the happy pair left for North Wales for their honeymoon. They were recipients ofnu-merous useful and valuable presents.
