The es- I penses, including billposting, printing, hire of piano and organ, etc., amount to about ofiti, which will be paid by the ati-onal Institute to the Blind, so that the whole of the will be handed over to t Dunstan's Hostel. Arrangements have been made by the Tank Reception Committee at Aberavon and Port Talbot (presided over by the Mayor, Aid. J. M. Smith, J.P.) to give Julian a hearty reception on the lith and 16th June—Friday and Saturday—just when the money burns n-if you have it. Labour M.P.'s, local financiers, and ladies will take part in the proceedings. The members of Aberavon, Port Talbot and District Chamber of Trade enter- tained the wounded soldiers and staff at Pewhiewtyn Hospital, Neath. on Thura- d'ay. During the afternoon the Mayor of Aberavon (Aid. J. M. Smith, J.P.) and the Mayoress paid a visit. The concert, pre- sided over by Mr. Lemuel Jones (president of the Chamber) was arranged by Mr. G. Thomas (25), collier, Mynyddbychan-cottages, a discharged soldier, was charged with stealing an oilskin coat and an auger, value Ifte., the property of James Wood, foreman at Margam Council's quarry at Bryn David Kee$(J9), collier, Mynydd- bychan. Cwmavon, was charged with receiving the articics.-Botli were fined S2. At Aoeravon on Thursday, William Hopkin (30\ labourer, Aberavon, was fined X20 for carrying a gun without a license. A verdict of Accidental death" was returned at an Aberavon inquest held by Mr. Lewis M. Thomas on Friday Bight on Alice Elsie Fleming (9), daughter of Adju. tant Fleming, of the Salvation Army, who was knocked down by a R. and S.B. train I at Velind,ro Crossing Mr. H. Evans-Jones (Skewen), and Mr. W. A. Levson, solicitor, Neath. Mr. T. P. Johns brought the Landore Minstrel Troupe to entertain the Tommies at the Neath and District War HpHal on Saturday evening. The eoloists were Mr. J. P. Johns and Mr. D. J. Deion, the accompanist being Mr. T. J. Williams. Mr. T. Da vies presided. The entertainment was held in the open air, and the boys had a good time. The representative of the Treasury who is organising the Tank campaign in South Wales, having advised the Execu- tive Committee that the privilege of a special permit was procurable for the purpose of stamping war certificates in- side the Tank, Mrs. Moore Gwyn bas been asked, and accepted, to officiate in that capacity during the first hour of the open- ing campaign. The aitbual meeting of the members of the Neath and Brecon Railway Company's Employes Sick and Benefit Society was held on Saturday, under the presidency of Inspector W. Morgan, of Crynant. After paying all sick and death claims, and declaring dividends to the extent of lite. lOd. each full member, there re- niained a balance at the bank amounting to M7 17s. 7d. During the year 13 new members had been admitted. Mr. HA Jones, Devynock, was elected as president for the ensuing, year, and Mr. Dd. Moore, of Crynant. vico-president. At Neath County Police Court on Mon- day afternoon (before Major W. B. Trick), William Joeeph. collier, of Pontwalby, was remanded in custody upon an un- mentionable charge. He said he bought it from a man who gave the name of J. Da vies, at the White Hart Hotel, Neath, and pro. duced a license dated May 22nd. Hopkin Morgan, C.B.E., J.P Mayor-Qf Neath, addressed the audi- ence, being also supported by* Mrs. H. B. Williams (Swansea), Councillors Ogley L. DavirI and Thos. Williams (Neath Abbey). On Tuesday evening, at Skewen, Coun- cillor Fred Curtis presided' over the monthly meeting of the Coedffranc Parish Council. Mr. Tom Price took hie seat as member for Jersey Marine. Councillor Slee reported that the committee ap- pointed to deal with illegal rent-raising, had met certain house-owners with a view of coming to an amicable settlement. The result had been most satisfactory. Sergt. D. R. Howelle, Royal Weteh Fusi- liers, eon of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Lowells, Bethlehem-road, Skewen, has accepted a commission in the Indian Army. He was twice mentioned in dispatches. He is 22 years of age, and prior to volunteering, was on the staff of the Coedffranc Boys' School. He has decided to adopt the Army as a profession.
