CWMTWRCH. I Mr. G. T. Levi (Gweledydd), the well- known Valley bart, scored well during the Easter holidays. At Treorky he captured the englyn prize. At Brynamman the englyn, and part of the Telyneg prize fell to his Tot, whilst at Gwaun-cae-Gur- wen he took the prize for verses suitable for children's recitations, and again -at Momston he won a chair and £ 1 10s. in the open recitation. This was his 24th chair.

I On Saturday evening, at the Treboeth Schoolroom (Mynvddbach branch), a can- ta.ta entitled, "The Birth of the Union Jack," was performed by the Treboeth Band of Hope Choir, conducted by Mr. Tom Jenkins. Cook Davies, of Swansea, acted as president, and Miss Rachel Rees acter as accom- panist. The proceeds are to the devoted towards the Chapel's Sailors' and Sol- diers' Fund.

BURRYPORT. I On Sunday evening an organ recital was given at St. Mary's Church, TBurry- port (in aid of the local War Funds), by Mr. W. T. Richards. Solos were rendered by Madame Muriel Jones and Mr. Myr- ddin Evans (Pwll). The annual meeting of the Burryport Urban Council will be held next week to appoint a chairman and vice-chairman for the ensuing year. The retiring chair- man is Inspector Darrow, and the vice- chairman is Mr. Thomas Davies. Next Thursday the Burryport Urban Council will nominate some one TO fill the vacant seat caused by the death of the late Mr. D. B. Walters, on the Llanelly Board of Guardians. The Labour Party have nominated Dr. J. H. Williams; the tradesmen have nominated Mr. Albert Taylor; while the names of Messrs. John Evans and W. T. Edmunds are also men- tioned.

LLANELLY. I The Llanelly Borough Council have I purchased the freehold coachbuilding premises at Spring Gardens belonging to Mr. Charles Pudner at < £ 1,100. The ac- quisition of this property is part of a big scheme for the erection of municipal buildings in the vicinity of the Town HaIl. A plebiscite is to be taken at Llanelly in a few weeks' time of the inhabitants on the question of prohibition during the war and demobilisation. The Rev. E. Keri Evans, M.A., Carmar- then, was the officiating minister at the half-yearly services held at Lloyd-street Chapel, Llarelly, -on Sunday, and in the afternoon and evening Miss -lie.-an Thomas, London (daughter of Mr. John I Thomas, conductor of the Llanelly Royal Choir, and Madam S. J. Thomas) ren- dered solos. Last month 3,625 volumes were issued from the Lla.nelly Public Library—an in- crease ot 483.

CARMARTHEN. It was decided at a meeting of delegates I representing executives of West Carmar- then, East Carmarthen, and Carmarthen Boroughs Liberal Associations, held at Carmarthen on Saturday, Ald. John Lloyd, J.P., Abergwili, presiding, to form a new Liberal Association for the new Carmarthen Parliamentary Division. The organisation of the old West Carmarthen Association will form the nucleus of the new association, and its officers will act pro tem. They are: President, Mr. John Hinds, M.P.; chairman of executive, Ald. John Lloyd, J.P., Abergwili; trea- surer, Mr. Thomas Davies, Llanglydwen; and secretary, Mr. W. J. Wallis Jones, solicitor, Carmarthen. A resolution forwarded by Carmarthen Trades and Labour Council demanding that immediate action be taken to in- crease the relief of out-door paupers was criticised at Carmarthen Board of Guar- dians on Saturday. It was, however, f o n decided not to take ujt;on. Carmarthen District Coui: 1 decided on Saturday not to insist for the present on structural alterations to cowsheds regis- tered for the sale of milk, provided they came up to requirements as regards cleanliness.

SKEWEN. On Saturday, on Werngoch Association Ground, a Soccer tournament took place, the winning team being Skewen A. The proceeds go towards the war heroes' re-, ception fund connected with the local Soccer teams. On Sunday evening, at the English Wosley Chapel, Skewen, the choir ren-; dered the cantata, The Coming of the Kingdom of Christ," the conductor being. Mr. iienry Reason. Mr. Digby (Port; Talbot) presided. The following artipus' assisted: Soloists, Miss Parry (Neftth), Miss Eunice Jones. Miss Beatie Heine, Miss D. Trott. Miss Maud Knight, Mr. Ll. Howell, Mr. George Hayward. and Mr. Reuben Taylor. Accompanist, Mr. Geo. Taylor. A stringed orchestra assisted (led by Mr. J. Miller). On Sunday morning, at Tabern&cle Chapel, Skewen, the marriage was solem- nized of A.B. Thomas Lewis, Pendrill- street, Neath, and Alice Jane, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Griffiths, Burrows- road, Skewen The bride was given away by her brother, Mr. Henry H. Griffiths. The bridesmaids were Miss Agnes Mat- thias, Mrs. Gertrude Griffiths, Mrs. Morfc and Mfa. Hill, the bridegroom being a tended by Mr. James Mort. The Rev. S" Evans Jones performed the ceremony.

The whole of the proceeds were in aid of the Holy Trinity Soldiers' and Sailors' Comforts Fund. MORRISTON. I At the Forward Movement Hall, on Saturday evening, a concert was held in I aid of the Grove-place Mission Church Sailors' and Soldiers' Fund. The artistes \,v: Miss Beatrice Anthony, Miss Maggie Cox (Manselton), Mr. Sam Davies (Ynis- tawe), Mr. Ben Jones (Velindre), Miss Selina Cook, Master Dennis Rowlands (Pontardawe), Miss Ethel M. Francis, Master Hugh Lake (Brynhyfryd), and Miss Amy Tihbs, .R.A.M., accompanied. It is now certain that Morriston win be represented at the Neath National Eis- teddfod. It is but a fortnight ago that it r was decided to form a choir, under the f-onductorship of Mr. Llew. R. Bowen. During that time no efforts have been ¡ spared to secure a. choir that would do justice to the town. A sacred concert was given at the Car- mel Chapel, on Sunday evening, in aid of the Sailors' and Soldiers' Fund. Mr. J. T. Richards presided. The following took part: Soprano, Miss Hannah Williams I (Ynystawe); tenor. Mr. A. R. Lewis; bari- tone. Mr. D. Morris Evans: violinist, Mas- ter Morgan R. Lloyd; elocutionist, Mr. Harry Grey (Llangyfelach). Mr. D. J. Lloyd accompanied. At the Tabernacle Schoolroom, on Saturday evening, a performance of the prize drama, "Ar y Groesffordd" (Rev. R. G. Berry), was given by the Plasmarl Dramatic Society, under the conductor- ship cf Mr. J. P. Walters. The proceeds were in aid of Mr. D. Grey (rollerman, DyfFryn Works), who has been ill for a considerable period. Mr. John John (mill superintendent), presided over a large audience. The cal't was a strong one, Mr. J. P. Walters again meeting with great success. The secretarial duties wert carried out by Mr. J. Morgans.
