.CARMARTHEN LICENSES. RENEWED AT ADJIURNED LlCENSINC SESSiMS. The Carmarthen justices on Monday considered the licenses of three public- houses, against the renewal of which the pc-lice had lodged objections. In regard to the Spread Eagle Hotel, Bead Constable Maya 11 reported a con- viction against the former licensee, who was fined £ 5-3 for keeping the house for the purposes of betting, and added that he thought more attention might have been paid to the house by the represen- t.ativee. of the owners (Messrs. Atlsopp). The Mayor (Mr. John lewis) said the Bench were of opinion that more care should be taken of licensed premises by owners and licensees. Mr. Smith, representative of Messrs. Allsopps, said he was very much sur- prised at the remarks of the Head Con- stable with regard to the Spread Eagle. The owners had not the slightest idea of any misconduct. They were most care- ful with regard to tlveir tenants and their properties, and, had they the slightest intimation of anything wrong taking place, they would have had a change immediately. In granting a renewal of the license, the Mayor said the Bench were con- vinced that the owners did not know that anything wrong was going on. White Horse inn. On behalf of the owfier and licensee. Mr. Griffith Owen, solicitor, applied for a renewa] of the license of the White Horse. Inn, Priory-street, against which the police reported a conviction in Feb., 1913, for .sealing liquor during pro- hibited hours. i Having warned the licensee, the Bench granted a renewal. I Square and Compass. The license of the Square and Com- pass Inn. Water-street, WAS also re- newed. Mr. Carson (of the firm of Messrs. Hoderick, Richards and Co., MaMfUy). for the owners and lieengoe intimating that considerable structural alterations had been carried out.
