CAMBRIAN RAILWAYS MANAGER…
CAMBRIAN RAILWAYS MANAGER COMPLIMENTED BY DIRECTORS. Ac the annual meeting of the Cambrian Railways Company, the Deputy Chairman (Mr J. Graven), in reply to a vote of thanks to the Board, said his colleagues and himself were glad to do all they could in the inter- ests of the company; but really the thanks of the shareholders were due more to Mr Williamson than to them. In Mr Williamson they had an exceptionaHy valu- able official, and nobody knew better than the directors how de- voted he was in the interests of the company, and how ably sup- ported he was in everything he did by the omcers serving under him, and bd desired to take that opportunity of expressing to Mr Williamson their very high appre- ciation of his indefatigable efforts in these dinjoult times, and to thank him for all he did to help them.
RED CROSS ANNUAL REPORT.
RED CROSS ANNUAL REPORT. The season extending from the 1st of November, 3916. to the 7th of March, 19! 7, has been a most successful one from- every point of view. The total Bumber of articles sent to headquarters from Burmouth has been 2,714, wbicb toother with 1.700 sent in the winter of 1914 and 3,976 sent in the winter of 1916 (inc!oding 54 articles sent to Aber Artro MiHtaty Hospitat) cojmo to the satisfactory tota! of 8,890. We are greatly iodfbtpd to our mem. hers for their splendid and untiring energy and work. But for their rego!ar attendance nnd great generosity, both in time and money, it would have been guite impossible to realize half the ex. ceHpnt. results achieved. In October iaat, aa the fund was at low ebb, a honae.to.honae coHeotion was atarted in Barmcnth, to enab!e ca to tide over the winter months. This met with the Mndfst response from all quarters, and the fo! towing tadiea have been so good as to Ret as coilectors for the various districts of the town; their names and the amounts collected by <bem are as foll()ws:-Mist3 Ellis and Miss Lewis, Liotinber, i224 Is 9d Miss Chal!; and Miaa Beti Humphreyb, 915 17s. 4d.; Mrs Rockp and the MisBes Roche.MHindee, £18 lg,. lid. As it was thought probable that it might perhaps be easier to place the I fund on a scand financial basis now rather than later in the year in view of the coming auLnmn and winter seasons, it was decided to have an American Tea and Rummage Sale on the 14tb of Feb. A fail report of the event appeared in the "Advertiser," and was one of the moat am prising and happy an'airsof the Red Cross since its inauguration here, as the committee realised J6121 78. 2d. clear of expenses. Tbia enabled us to with. draw our 6th and last monthly collection, as we did not wiab to ask for any unnecessary financial aid. We are specially indebted to the following ladies and gentlemen for help and assis. tance in many ways during the year :— the Rector for the use of the Church Ha!l for the meetings and American Tea; to a!I the ladies and gentlemen who helped to make that affair the success if was; to Mr Morris G. Roberts, proprietarof the "Advertiser" for bia courtesy and kindness in putting in our weekly reporta; to Mr Humphrey Jones, London City and Midland Bank, bon. auditor; and also to the coHectora and subscribers to the weekly and monthly collections. I saw in our Local Paper last week that the Local Government Board have refrsed to sanction payment to Mr W.A. Bfddowp, (science master at the Bar. mouth County School) who ha-? joined the Co!oura. What is your Council doing with your Surveyor who is now with the Co!ours? Has the Council appealed to the Local Government Boatd for a decision and with what re. su!L? Remember butter is 2/2 a !b bacon, 1/7; mutton, 1/6; pork, 1/4; potatoes, lid. and cannot be got. Just think. RATEPAYER. RETAININMENT OF GERMANS. I To the Editor. In reply to a question, the Deputy Clerk reported that the Recreation Ground was let to Mr Hugh Jones for grazing purposes at an annual rental of .Bl, which terminates March Slat. It was pointed outtbat if any more applications were received far garden plots on the Recreation Ground, it was far more important f'orthe Council to !et it for the production of food than let same for any donkeys. A long discussion then ensued as to the expense of fencing the allotments and the ecc!o6ure for the donkeys. U!timate!y it was decided that the Council should inspect the ground on Wednesday.
