The debtor ascribed his faiiure to "ba'd trade and! bad debts." Th'e examination was closed.—John Perry, until lately residing at Gol-ding- Upper Promenade, Colwyn Bay, 'engine driver and lodging-house keeper, was. publicly examined. According to the statements. Which he made to Mr Daniel W lliams, the assistant official receiver, the debtor came to Colwyn Bay eight years ago, and kept a lodging-house, witih about ;640 worth of furniture. DEATH OF AN A.R C.A.—The death occurred on Saturday of Mr Henry Hilton, a well-known Liverpool artist. Mr Hilton was a water-colour painter, well known to frequenters of the Royal Cambrian Academy, of which institution he was an associate. IMPROVING.—It is satisfactory to know that Wilson, the popular C-onway forward, who sus- tained a fractured leg in Saturday's match with Llandudno, is improving under the professional care of Dr Jos. R Williams. The plucky manner in which the young fellow bore himself after the accident has elicited general praise ,from those who witnessed the unfortunate affair.—We are also glad to report slight progress in the condition of Mr Bushnell, the veterinary surgeon, after his carriage accident.

Ruthin. STREET ROW.—At the Ruthin Police Court on Mopdav. before Mr G H. Denton and other magistrates, Alfred and John Bright, two brothers lirilini, from Liverpool, were charged in custody with assaulting Police Constable Hughes on the .^h inst. The defrlldants were defended by Mr J. B- Mnrston, Mold. The Bench dismissed the charge against John Bright, but fined Alfred Bright ios. and costs. Two other charges of assault against Alfred Bright were dismissed. 11 ,DEATH.-The; death took place, on Tuesday last week, at Ruthin, of Mrs Ann Hughes, Bank V'ew, the mother of Mrs R. R. Jones, Afal'lon, Colwyn Bay. The deceased:, who was in her 75:dh year, was the widow oftihe late Mr Richard Hughes, Llidiart Fawr, Llangyrihafal, a deacon and a highly-respected member of the C.M. Con- nexion. Mrs Hughes, was very (well-known in Ruthin as a lady who possessed sterling quali- ties, and 'her death will be a real loss- to the local ty. Without making an obtrusive show of her religion, she lived a pure and pious life, and her example was a powerful factor for good in the community. Her death took place with painful suddenness. She had! been in a church meeting, and had barely re-entered her house, when she fell down dead. The funeral took place on Saturday, amids,t universal expressions of sorrow. A service was held in the Wesleyan Schoolroom,, where the following ministers offi- ciated Revs. Mo sty n Wi'lliams (W.), Symonds (Presbyterian), E. J. Williams (C.M.), and Stevens (C.M.). The interment was made aft Llangynhafal Church, and the Rector (tihe Rev. Edw Jones) officiated at the grave-side. Amongst the chief mourners were: Mr J. R. Hughes, Birmingham (son); Annie and Minnie Hug'hes (daughters), Mr and Mrs R. P. Jones, Afallon, Colwyn Bay (daughter and son-in-law).

St. Asaph. VARIETY ENTERTAINMENT PROCEEDS. -We are informed that the entertainment held last Thursday in aid of the Church House and other parochial funds resulted in a gratifying financial success. About £ 50 have been handed over to those objects. PROPOSED LIBERAL DEMONSTRATION. —A committee meeting of the prominent mem- bers of the local Liberal party was held in the Calvinistic Methodists' Schoolroom, on Tuesday night, under the presidency of Dr. Easterby. The attendance included the Rev. Jonathan Jones, Rev. Benjamin Hughes, and Rev W. M. Jones, and Messis J. Williams (Plascaptain) and foseph Thcmas (Hafod Elwy), etc. Mr S. D. Thomas was selected secretary of the committee, and Mr Joseph Thomas treasurer. It was decided that a public meeting should be held on the 28th or 29th instant, and that Mr Howell Idris, Mr J. Police News. ROWDY VISITORS.The customary quietude of some of the residents of the city was disturbed on Friday afternoon last, owing to the disorderliness of strangers. At a special Police Court on Saturday before Mr Peter Roberts, and W. Conway Bell, James Hall, who said he was late of Old Greenstaff, Uppell-street, Sheffield, and was a labourer, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in High-street, St. Asa,ph,-P.C. Edward Roberts, proved the case, statingr prisoner was staggering drunk and used very bad language. On the way to the police station prisoner was disorderly.— The magistrate sent prisoner to gaol for 14 days with hard labour. ONLY FIVE PINTS.-At the same Court, Thos Kelly, of no fixed abode was charged with a similar offence in Chester-street, on Friday, and to which he pleaded he was not guilty, although ho bad only five pints."—P.C. Thomas Hy. Parry deposed to prisoner creating a great disturbance, and on being conveyed to the police station, made use of violent threats. P.C. Roberts, corroborated, and prisoner was com- mitted for 14 days' hard labour. ANOTHER INEBRIATE:—At a special court, on Monday, before Dr. Easterby and! Mr Peter Roberts, a married''woman named Jane Hughes, of Glan Conway, was charged with being drunk and disorderly in Ciharles-street, St. Aasph, on, Saturday- n:ght. P.C. Thomas Henry Parry stated that prisoner was drunk in Lower-street of he city, and afterwards created a disturbance aiE the railway station, from which- s'he was ejected. Subsequently, sihe was begging, and very abusive to passers-by. Inspector Pearson informed, the Bench prisoner was a great nu'sanee wherever she went, and had been con- victed several times.. Prisoner, who pleaded guilty, was sent to gaol for 14 days.

Welsh County Councils. To Still Resist the Education Act. AT a meeting in London, the Radical Consulta- tive Committee- of the Welsh Counity Councils unanimously advised the- Councils which object to administer Dhe Education. Act in iits literal sense to rigidly maintain their present attitude, and to await any fres/h steps thatc may be taken by the 'Board of Education. It was considered that the Board of Education would n'ot dare to mandamus the whole of Wales, and that if any one Council were singled out for that purpose', the County Councils of Wales should -be called upon to loyalllYSitand by and support such Council in resisting any ap- plication for a mandamus. A resolution calling upon the Welsh: members of Parliament to give united suppoxlt in the House of Commons to any reprôSientaitions madie to them by 'the ICommiUee was also carried.

Tlhe resignation of Mr Sen-oi (science master) is much regretted, as he was highly respected. MUSICAL SUCCESS—At the examination helld in Liverpool in December in connection with Trinity College, London, nine of the pupils entered' by Miss Pope, "Arwend.oii," passed suc- cessfully both in practical and theoretical music. Two candidates gained honour marks. The following were the successful pupils: rractical, L. Roberts APPROACHING MARRIAGE OF LADY GRIZEL COCHRANE.—A public meeting was held at the Church House, on Thursday even- ing,, iast week, to initiate a fund towards the expense of local celebrations to be 'held in con- nection with the marriage of Lady Grizel Cocbrane, eldestt daughter ofk the Eafll land Countess of Dundonald, whose nuptials will take place at an early daiue. Mr J. Pierce pre- sided over a large gathering. A committee was formed to carry out the arrangements, of which Mr J. Pierce was appointed chairman; Mr E. A Crabbe, secretary; and G. T. Evans, North and South Wales Bank, treasurer.
