ELECTION ADDRESSES. MUNICIPAL ELECTION, 1898. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE BOROUGH OF ABERYSTWYTH. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,—At the request of a large number of Ratepayers, I have con- sented to place my services at your disposal in becoming a candidate for Municipal honours. Being always among the working classes, I have every opportunity of knowing their requirements, and shall do everything in my power to secure for them what has been long neglected, that is BETTER DWELLINGS. I will support all improvements which would be to my mind beneficial to the Town, such as the EAST and WEST RAILWAY, the NARROW- GUAGE RAILWAY to ABERAYRON, and shall give due consideration to all measures which would be brought forward. I hope and trust you will record your vote in my favour on the Polling Day. I remain, Your obedient servant, D. PHILLIPS. Terrace Road, Oct. 13, 1898. TO THE RATEPAYERS OF THE BOROUGH OF ABERYSTWYTH. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,-Having been -t-J asked to stand as a candidate for the Town Council, I have agreed to do so. I am not aware of any burning question to be dealt with at the present time. As regards working men's cottages, I quite approve of the decision that the Council has already come to, namely, to erect a limited number, and I should be for having them built without delay and let at as low a rent as possible or sold on easiest terms to working men. Respecting the proposed East and West Railway, believing this would bring the greatest prosperity to the town, I should be strong for assisting the promoters in any way possible. The lease question. This has been the cause of vexation to many. I would faithfully consider this in all its aspects so that perfect justice should be rendered to all applicants for renewals. I would watch the expenditure of the Council so that if any economy can be made without sacrifi- cing efficiency, the same should be effected and the rates kept as low as possible. I would also, if elected, bring forward the question of a play. ground for the young people of the Town as I consider it the duty of the Council to provide one, and a good one too. Having lived in the town nineteen years, I have a very keen interest in its prosperity, and I should like to see it become the centre of all National (Welsh) questions, religious, educational, and political. and if I should become a member of the Council, I shall always try to encourage any move- ments that tend in this direction. Soliciting the favour of votes at the election, I am, Your obedient Servant, GEORGE D. WHITE. TO THE MUNICIPAL ELECTORS OF THE BOROUGH AND LIBERTIES OF ABERYSTWYTH. LADIES AND. GENTLEMEN, — On the First of November you will be called upon to elect four members of the Town Council. I beg respect- fully to offer myself for re-election after having served for a period of eighteen years. The Public Lighting of the Town is one of the important questions now before the Council. The Marine Terrace and some of the central parts of the town have the advantage of the Electric Light and it is necessary that a considerate improvement should be effected in the Lighting of the Streets generally. From the information before the Coun- cil, I believe it is possible to obtain this improve- ment without in any way increasing the annual expenditure under this head. This matter shall receive my careful attention and 1 trust very shortly that we shall have Aberystwyth as well, if not better, lighted than any town in the Prin- cipality. The Town Hall requires much improvement and Municipal Offices ought to be provided. This work can be done without involving a heavy charge upon the ratepayers of the present day. I have always been in favour of providing Workmen's Houses, and trmst the erection of such houses will be commenced without further delay, so as to meet the pressing needs of working men of Aberystwyth at the present time. Improved Railway communication is of vital importance t) the future success of Aberystwyth, as a health resort. I have always done and shall continue to do all in my power to further every scheme likely to bring this about. Trusting I shall receive your support on this occasion as in the past. I am, Ladies and Gentlemen, Yours obediently, D. C. ROBERTS. 10, South Marine Terrace, October 24th, 1898. MUNICIPAL ELECTION, 1898, TO THE ELECTORS OF THE BOROUGH OF LLANIDLOES. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,—I beg Ho offer myself as a Candidate for the honour of representing you on the Town Council. I have for a number of years resided amongst you and have always carefully watched the administration of affairs by that Authority. I am aware that several questions of importance will have to be dealt with in the near future particularly those relating to the Water Supply, the Loan Re-arrangement Proposals, &c., and I can assure the Electors that the same shall have my very best attention and consideration. In conclusion I would say that I am not seeking your support on Political or Sectarian grounds, but I trust that my life long connection with the Borough will incline many of you to think that I am willing and able to assist in promoting and maintaining the prestige and influence of our Town, and to endeavour to keep pace with the march of progress which is being made in the neighbouring towns, and particularly in those which are situate within the borders of our own county.11 I am, Ladies and Gentlemen, Your obedient Servant, HThe Green, L.
