--I IBRECON EASTER VESTRIES.
I I BRECON EASTER VESTRIES. S. John's. The Easter Vestry for the parish of S. John, Brecon, was held on Thursday night, the Bishop of Sv. ansea presiding over a good attendance. Mr. A. J. Corbett, in presenting the church- warden's accounts, said they had wiped off the adverse balance with which they started the year. As they knew a special effort to do this was made on Whit Sunday. They started the year with a balance overdrawn at the bank of £ 117 17s. 2d., and ended with a balance in hand of Y,4 Gs. 2d. (Hear, hear). The accounts were adopted on the proposition of Mr. W. F. Parry deWinkni. seconded by Mr. John Edwards. The Bishop, having thanked Mr. A. J. Wallace for his four years' services as his warden, nominated Mr. A. H. Shapland as his successor. On the proposition of Mr. J. P. Jones- Powell, seconded by Mr. A. J. Wallace, Mr. A. J. Corbett was re-elected people's warden. J. H. Rosser, The Court, was also. re-elected warden for the hamlet of Vennyfach The following were appointed sidesmen in place of those retiring in rotation -Vicar's sidesmen—Messrs. A. J. Wallace, J. Meredith and Peck and Vestry's sidesmen—Messrs. Lambert, D. Price, Moore and P. S. Winstone. Messrs. A. J. Corbett, A. J. Wallace, and J. P. Joiiei-Powell were re-elected lay electors, and Mr. Jones Powell as auditor. Mr. Corbett stated that there was a balance overdrawn at the bank on the Church Restora- tion Fund last year of 1361 12s. Id., but this year they had a balance in hand of £ 344 3s. lOd. The Bishop remarked that there was a great deal more work to be done and the prospect of spending a much larger sum than there was of balance in hand. They owed a debt of gratitude to Mr. Parry deWinton for having obtained from the executors of Sir W. Vaughan Morgan the £ 500 which he promised towards the fund just before his death. There was no legal obligation upon the executors to pay that sum, but Mr. Parry deWinton wrote them stating that it was the manifest desire of the late Sir Vaughan to make the donation and it was an act of grace on the part of the execu- tors to send them the £500. THE RESIGNATION OF MR. HEINS. The Bishop, referring to the resignation of Mr, R. T. Heins as organist, said it was some- thing like 40 years since Mr. Heins was appointed organist of the church, and now, on recount of pressure of work, owing to war conditions, he had to sever that association with them. He (the Bishop) had appointed a successor to Mr. Heins, namely, Mr. E. W. Baker, who was now filling a temporary post at Ross, and he would commence his duties on Sunday, the 21st inst. On the proposition of Mr. Parry deWinton, seconded by Mr. Plunkett, the Vestry recorded their appreciation of the self-sacrificing ser- vices of Mr. Heins as organist of the Priory Church for such a length of time. The Bishop thanked his colleagues and all who had assisted during the year for their services, aiid stated that in connection with the Visitation, which would take place on April 16, the Episcopal chair, presented to the Priory by the Archdeaconry, would be dedicated. The cfeair had been designed by Sir Goscombe John and carved by his brother Mr. Thomas John, of Cardiff. The Easter offering presented to the Bishop. amounted to J614 12s. 2d. S. MARY'S. The Bishop of Swansea also presided over S. Mary's Easter Yes try, which followed that of S. John's parish, and was accompanied by the Rev. H. J. Church Jones. Mr. Hills Orton presented the accounts showing a balance of 95 14s. lid. to the good, and they were adopted on the proposition of. Dr. Francis, seconded by Mr. Thomas Jones. The Bishop, having thanked Mr. W. Smith for his services as Vicar's warden for two years, nominated Mr. John Vaughan as his successor, and the Vestry re-elected Mr. Hills Orton as people's warden. Messrs. W. Smith, James Morgan, John Hando. W. H. Gimsou and J. Burrows were added to the list of sidesmen, and Messrs'. Weaver Price and Lewis Lewis were re-elected auditors. The Bishop, referring to the improvements effected outside the church, which were carried out through the instrumentality of Dr. T. P. Thomas, said he thought an effort should be made to wipe off the debt during the year. The Easter offering amounted to £ 17 14s., and the Bishop, in acknowledging it, said the Easter offerings at both churches would be given to the assistant clergy. S. DAVID'S. The Easter Vestry for the parish of S. David's, Brecon, was held on the 2nd inst., and was very well attended.—The vicar (Rev..T. Simon), in a review of the year's work. showed that the church was in a flourishing condition and that the number of communicants had been again increased by 100. The Easter communi- cants numbered 297. Mr. W. T. Isaac, in the absence through indisposition of Alderman Thomas Williams (people's warden) presented the accounts, which were passed. Alderman Thos. Williams was re-eleettd people's warden and the Vicar again nominated Mr. T. J. Parry as his warden. The Easter offering, which amounted to t 14, was presented to the Vicar by Capt. J. D. D. Evans, on behalf of the Vestry. The sidesmen were duly elected.—Captain Evans opened a discussion upon the churchyard improvement question and suggested the planting of trees to beautify the churchyard.-Tlie Vicar thanked all those who had helped during the year in church work and a vote of thanks was passed to Alderman Thos. Williams for his gift of a church clock, to Mr. Evan Jones for a flag and Captain J. D. D. Evans for a flag-staff.
