SOUTH WALES FINANCE. (Cardiff Account Day, April 27th.) MONDAY, April 24th, 1899. There has been a fair amount of busi- ness moving in the local market to-day, notwithstanding the near approach of the account day, more particularly as regards Coal Shares. Rails have been a bit heavy, owing to realisations and attempts at realisations to secure profits accumulated during the present account. Taif Ordinary in particular has been heavy, as was predicted in this column a few days ago would be the case before the close of the account. To-day's quotation shows a fall of at 85%, but the set-back is likely to be of a temporary character only. In all probability a considerable rise will be shown in the next account. The latter remark also applies to Barry Stocks. Other local lines do not show much life at the moment. Vale of Glamorgan Stock has been done at 125%, the middle price; Hull and Barnsley, at 56 and Louisvilles, at 70. In the Coal Share department Tredegars and Ebbw Vales have shown marked activity. LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE. LONDON, Monday. Money continued in very abundant sup- ply, and, being in only very limited request, advances over the night were freely lent at 1 to 1?4 per cent., loans for a week being again obtainable at 1% per cent. The Discount Market, however, was somewhat firmer, chiefly in view of the coming settlement on the Stock Exchange. :cd brokers to-day charged 2-k 1 1.6 to 2 pór cent. for discounting best three months' bills. Berlin private discount hardened to 3^4 per cent. On the Stock Exchange the attention of operators was largely engaged with the arrangement of the settlement in Mining Shares, which commenced to-day. The account to be arranged was considerably 1 larger than last time, chiefly owing to the expansion in Westralians. Carrying-over rates on West Australians generally ranged from 9 to 12 per cent., though as much as 20 per cent. was stated to have been paid in some cases. Rates on SouthfAfricans generally ranged from 8 to 10 per cent. Business in the markets was chiefly con- fined to Westralians and Copper Shares, the former marking further considerable advances in prices on renewed pur- chases, whilst Rio Tintos and Ana- condas were in strong demand, chiefly on the further advance in the price of copper. Home Railway Stocks were adversely affected by the wretched weather. American descriptions opened with a firm tone, on the favourable New York Bank statement, but prices later on sagged in the absence of business, move- ments being irregular on the day. Canada Pacifies closed weak, and Grand Trunks were neglected. Foreign Bonds were also very little dealt in, the only change of importance being an improvement in Spanish. Kaffirs showed no special feature, and changes, as a rule, were only frac- tional either way. Telegraph Shares have been well supported. The market for Home Government Securities was quiet, and Consols closed unchanged for money at 110%, but lower for account at llO^. Bank Stock rose 1. Colonial Inscribed Stocks un. changed. CARDIFF EXCHANGE. BUTE DOCKS, Monday. There was a fairly good attendance on 'Change to-day, but business ruled very quiet in all departments of the stcain coal market. The chief cause of this is still attributed to the diffi- culty of getting proper supplies of tonnage already arranged for, but it hardly explains why, if this is the case, business should be so brisk in the North, Midlands, and Scotland. Quota- tions rule much about the same in all departments. The following1 were the closing qlotatiolls: -First-class steam coal, 13s to 13s 3d; best ordinaries, 12s to 12s 6d second- class, Ils 9:1 to 128 drys, lis to lis Gd; very best small, 88 6d to 98; good seconds, from 7s 6d Monmonthshires, lis 3d to lls 6d seconds, 10a 3d to 103 6d best house coal, 13s to 15s No. 3 Rhondda large, 12s to 13s; through-pud-tlirough, lis to lis 3d and small, IDs to 10s 6d No. 2 Rhondda large, 10s to 10s 3d. SEVERE CHRONIC BRONCHITIS, combined with Asthma and Heart Affection (8 years' standing), CURED :—" I have been under doctors for 8 years. They did not do me any lasting good. When I began your treatment I was at my very worst. My breath- ing was very bad. I had to sit up in bed all night, and my cough was so hard I could not cough up anything. In the day time I was worse. I used to get such fits of perspiration and afterwards turn quite cold. I was always catching fresh colds. I am now able to sleep at nights, and when I rise up in the morning am able to do my work with ease. The doctors told me I should never be able to breathe through my nostrils.
