SOUTH WALES FINANCE (Cardiff account days, Dec. llfch and 30th.) MONDAY, December 7th. 1896. Considering the general state of the market, chere has been a fair amount of business transacted locally, but most of the dealings have been in the lighter securities. Taff < Ordinary shows a further fall of Y2, at 30%. and it does not appear that the bottom -has been reached yet. Rhymney Ordinary Is held rather easy. Barry Stocks are steady with an inquiry for the De- ferred. Business continues in Port Tal- bot Preference Allotments at 10s pre- mium. In outside securities Uruguay 5 per Cent. Stock was done at 45%. Coal Shares have been dealt in to a limited extent. Internationals were dealt in at 2%, And the quotation has been widened and the mean brought up Ys, to 2%. D. Davis and Sons' Preferences were done at 10&, being h above the mean price, and jNantyglo And Blaina Iron Preferences at 91%, or below the bottom quotation. Other business included Bute Dry Docks, at 13%, the old price Rhondda Valley Brewery Preferences, at lOti. being h below the mean quotation and Ben Evans' Ordinary, at 20s 3d, an advance of 3d on the top quotation. Cardiff Empires are a shade easier. There is very little movement in other directions. The Mining Market has shown a little more strength and activity to-day. The business included dealings in Lady Shenton Gold Mines at 2fa, and Lake View Souths at 33s 9d. Messrs Ernest Sully and Co.'s weekly report is as follows Local Rcils.-This market has received very little support during the past week. Barry De- ferred has hardened slightly to 152%, and the per Cent. Preferences have improved to 143— 143%, with business done at the mean and top quotations, Rhoudda Ordinary Shares are weaker, having dropped from 6-6 to sellers at 6. the Preferences meanwhile being steady ab 13%. Rhvmney Stock has been offered, and has fallen to 272-275. Taffs have dropped during the week 214 points, to 80%, the explanation suggested by many being the decrease in this half-year's traffic receipts. Port Talbots have changed bands at 9% cx-new, whilst there is a demand for the New 4 per Cent. Preference Allotments at about 10s premium. Banks.-There is an iuquiry for Glamorganshire Bank Preference and Ordinary Shares, London and Midland Shares have improved 10s to buyerB at 45%. London and Provincials, after changing hands at 21%, have been negotiated at 21%. and leave off between these figures. Lloyds' are slightly easier at 26, whilst National Provincial Shares have both put on 10s. Breweries. -Bristol Brewery Ordinaries have riseu to 40. There has bewn a little inquiry for Hancock's Preferred Ordinary, which have changed hands at 13% and 13% toe PreCerencelt have also been negotiated at 14%, and later at 14 fa. Rhondda Valley Preferences are steady at 11, Coal and Iron.-Albions are easier, business hardiy been done at 10%, at which they are rather offered. Cambrian Preferences have changed hands at 10%, and there are still buyers onsupplied the Debentures are also inquired for. D. Davis and Sons' securities have remained steady. Ebbw Vales have hardened a little to &%• Internationals have changed hands at 2%. North's Ordinary and Preferences are still inquired for. Rhymney Iron New Shares have eased off 6d, but the Oid Shares remain steady at 24s 6d. This market has received on the whole fair support, and there appears a slight tendency to purchase shares. Miscellaneous.—Alexandra Dock B Preferences have chanced hands at 103, at which there are farther buyers. Barry Graving Docks have improved to business at 22. Sate Dry Docks have been negotiated at 13%. Cardiff Milling Preferences have changed hands at M. and leave off sellers at this. Empires were done as high as 7H at the commencement of last week, but have since been rather offered. Hill's Dry Dooks have been in demand and have improved to 8. Mordey and Carney Shares have been negotiated at 13% and 14% respectively. Mounllebnarts remain steady. Spillers' Ordinaries have been dealt in at 14%. There is a better inquiry for Swansea Harbour Stock, which is quoted at 110.

LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE. LONDON, Monday. The Money Market has been very quiet. There is a plentiful supply of capital, and a prospect of further increase during the week by the distribution of some of the Japanese funds. Loans were very little wanted. Day- to-day advances were 2% per cent. Dis- counts were quiet, with a moderate number of bills offered. Three months' Bank bills were negotiated at 2% to 3 per cent. four months, 2% six months, 2% per cent. Paris Cheque Exchange, 25'22. Stock Exchange Markets have been very quiet to-day owiug to the. near approach of settlement. The tendency has been un- decided. Consols fell is to Yø, and closed at: 111% to 111% xd for delivery, and 111% to 112/8 for account. Foreign Bonds, though quiet, have in the main been firm. Internationals were steadier. Spanish rose Ys, and Italian Egyptian and Turks quiet, but firm. Portuguese advanced 34. Brazilian were steadied by more favourable news from Rio, and rose 1 to 1%. Argentines rather better. Peruvian steady. Rome Railways have been dull. The tendency has been flat, particularly amongst heavy lines, on the probability that the disputes between the companies and their servants way become more acute. NOfth- ) Western and Midland fell 1, Great Western I and North-Eastern Scotch Stocks also were weak. Great Eastern quiet, and I Metropolitan lower. As regards Southern lines, Brighton A was unchanged, and South. Eastern A fell Y4. London and Brighton traffic shows an increase of £1.128, and South-Eastern an increase of £ 1,474. In the American Railway Market business has been quiet. There has been a sharp rally in Baltimore and Ohio, on the more favourable view taken by New York of the situation. Union Pacifies were strong and 1 better, at 11% otherwise the market has been quiet and featureless. Canadian Railways were inactive. Grand Trunks fell Ys to Y4. Canadian Pacific Shares unaltered. Foreign Railways inactive, without im. portant movement. Nitrates quiet, and the market is scarcely altered. Miscellaneous Securities. -Imperial Otto. Mi, man Bank Phares fell Breweries quiet; Brunner, Mond and Co., £ 3 10s paid, fell Spratc's Patent lower. D. H. Evans declined rs. Trusts moved irregularly. Imperial Continental Gas fell 2. The list of applications for shares and debentures in the Oban Palace Hotel and Hydropathic Company, Limited, will close to-day (Tuesday) for town and country. The subscription list of the Minerva Nailless Horse-shoe (English and Colonial) Company, Limited, closes to-day (Tuesday) for town, and to-morrow (Wednesday) for the country. The Worcestershire Brewing and Malting Company has been formed to purchase as going concerns and amalgamate the freehold breweries known as Back nail's Brewery," Kidderminster, Worcestershire (established in 1807), and the Delph Brewery," Brierley Hill, Staffordshire (estab- lished in 1876). The company will also acquire the licensed houses now held with the breweries, as well as the Unicorn Hotel, Worcester, and other licensed houses, making a total number of 126 licensed houses, Certain other properties are also acquired. The share capital is £ 260,000, divided into 13,000 Five-and-a- Half per Cent. Cumulative Preference and 13,000 Ordinary Shares of B10 each, the price of issue being par. An issue is also announced of £ 230,000 First Mortgage Four-and-a-Half per Cent. Debenture Stock at 103 per cent. The total purchase price has been fixed at^E440,000. The Mining Market has been firm. Favourable Geldenhuis Deep and Nigel Deep crushings have caused a strong demand for all deep level issues and have strengthened the South I frican market generally. West Australians quiet, but firm. Amongst South Africans Chartereds rose Ys Goldfields Deferred, if Anglo-French Exploration, Rhodesia Exploring, and Transvaal Goldfields were up, and many other Land and Explorations fa to ft. Diamonds were strong. De Beers rose andjagersfontein ft. Johannesburg Invest- ment and S. African Trust each moved upfa. Gold Shares very strong, and many dis- closed very decided gains. Rand Mines were 2 up Goldfields Deep marked a rise of and Nigel Deep, fa. Trans- vaal Gold were fa up Ferreiras, Angelo, Heriot, Knight's, Simmer and Jack, Modderfontein, Princess, and Wolhuter and almost the entire remainder of the active list to a less extent, the finish being good. In the West Australian market a quiet business was passing, but the tone was steady. Lake View Consolidated advanced ft, Boulder3 were better, and Hampton Plains advanced to 2ti buyers, West Australian Goldfields improved Cassidy Hills and Mainlands were rather better, and Hit or Miss rose h. Lake View South fell to 1% sellers. Golden Horseshoe were steady, but Golden Crown weak. Northern Territories were strong. Indian Gold Shares were very quiet. Cham- pion Reefs rose fa, and Mysore Reefs 6d. Copper Shares firm. Rio Tinto rose fa. Amongst Miscellaneous Shares Waihi advanced ft Waileka, ft Glaskop, 3d but one and all shares fell fa and Wood. stock, fa. The following changes took place in South African Mines Rise Angelo, Bantjes, 7-32 City and Suburban, ft Comet, Consolidated Deep Level, and Crown Deep, Crown Reef, ft Driefontein Consolidated, East Rand, 3-32; Ferreira, Gelden- huis, ft Glencairn, ft Goldfields Deep, 7/s Heriot, Jumpers, ft Knights, Meyer and Charlton, Midas Estate, Modderfontein, New Primrose, fa Nigel Deep, fa Nourse Deep, Prin. cess, ft Rand Mines, 2; De Beers, Simmer and Jack, Wemmers, Goldfields Deferred, 13-32. 7,000 sovereigns have been sent into the Bank of England to-day from Portugal. Silver remains at 29%. Indian Exchanges weak. Bombay Trans- fers, Is 3 5-32d Calcutta, Is 3 fad. Rupee Paper, 62ft. The Board of Trade returns for November are disappointing, inasmuch as they show a distinct shrinkage of our foreign trade. Exports for the month were £ 18,539,853, I showing a falling off from last year of £ 1,000,480. In the 11 months there was an increase of £ 12,641,367. As regards im- ports the total for the month showed an I increase of 23,496,028, and the 11 months an increase of £ 18,553,717. RATES OF EXCHANGE ON LONDON.
