SOUTH W ALES FINANCE MONDAY, June 19th, 1893. In the earlier part of the day business was vary quiet, almost nothing having been dona'in the way of dealing in any sort of ftocJL There was again an entire absence rf transactions in Rhymneys andTaffs either JH the Stock Exchange or amongst non- Mbmbers. These continue weak, and we ifeard of one or two small parcels of Rbym- aey having been offered afc about 220. But »here seems a disposition in certain quarters 10 make this stock -ppear weaker than it actually is. There were several buyers about, but they are apparently holding back in anticipation of lower prices whilst holders of stock desirous of clearing '¡)ut are waiting in the hope of a rise. fhe present prices are about 220 Rhymneys, Mid 83% to 84 Taffs. Barry Ordinary re- gain firm at 198, at which iigure business yas done. The ordinary meeting of the Taff Vale 1irectors takes place to-morrow (Tuesday), but up till to-day nothing of the reported igreement is said to be known in either the faffor Rhymney offices. Whetherthedirectors of the Taff will issue an announcement to- morrow upon the subject of their negotia- tions cannot be ascertained. The strictest jecrecy is closely-observed, and persistent re- ports were circulated to-day to the effect that ao agreement was in existence. The state- ments, however, which have been published in our columns have come from trustworthy )ources directly in touch with the highest quarters, and it is hard to understand why 'lie affecration of secrecy is so persistently ,a. .maintained. CARDIFF EXCHANGE.
CARDIFF EXCHANGE. BUTE DOCK. MONDAY. The steam coal market continued active to-day, and prices had a stiffening tendency. There was a strong demand for best and secondary qualities, and small steam was scarce. The house coal trade was flat. Patent fuel orders were plentiful, and coke prices ruled firm, with a good demand for both foundry and furnace qualities. In our local freight market an average business was done in steam chartering outwards, though on account of the heavy stems prevailing, great difficulty was experienced in arranging loading for prompt tonnage. The Mediterranean market was reported weak, while there was very little doing for either the West or East Indies. Baltic and coasting quotations underwent no change. The following comprise the latest operations reported:— Bermuda, 7s 6D, clean (Olympia). Brindisi, 6S (Gloucester City). Gibraltar, 6s 1%d, new charter (Caerleon). Havannab, 8s 6d (Maple Branch).
