OFF TO BLACKPOOL. The members of tho Capel Mawr Sunday School have decided to go to Blackpool on the 9bh proximo. No doub3 this wiil be a very ty popular trip and will attract a greab many outside the members of the Sunday School. The Wesleyans have decided on Colwyn Bay as their rendezvous. FIRE BRIGADE DRILL. The fire brigade, under command of Capt Joyce, turned out for their monthly drill on Monday evening, and journeyed as fir as Lodge Farm, Gwaenynog, where they found a plentiful supply of water. The brigade was entertained to refreshments by Mra Lioyd and Mr John Owen Lloyd. THE FIRE BRIGADE. At a joint meeting of the Fire Brigade and j Town Council several applications were re- ceived for a vacancy on the Fire Brigade, and ib was decided to appoint Mr James Evans (Talbot Hotel). This appointment is of course subjeot to the confirmation of the Town Council at their monthly meeting on Thursday next. OLD COLWYN SHOW. Attention is called to the Old Colwyn and Distriob Agricultural Society's annual show in our advertising columns which takes place on Wednesday, July 8th. All entries close on the 27th inst, and echedules of przas are now ready. A novel feature of the show will be a Motor Gymkhana in the evening, See advertisement on page 4. LOCAL CENTRE ASSOCIATED BOARD R-A-ril.-R.C.M. The prize offered in the Denbsgh centre of the above examination by tlia late Mr Burton of two guineas for the candidate who obtains highest marks above 110 in a practical subject ia the Advanced has moab kindly been con- tinued by his daughter-in-law, Mrs Burton. It is awarded this year to Elsie Williimson (aged 14), pupil of Miss Griffin, Howell's School. CRICKET MATCH. On Saturday, June 6h. a match was played oa the home gound between the Howell's Sohool Crioket team and that of the Queen's acho 11, Chester. The visitors won the toss and went in first, and were dismissed for 27 IUns. The B-Ilool team then made 39, and thus won by 12 runs- Neither team showed as gocd play as they have done in past years. TEACHERS AN THE SCALE. Thr annual conference of tho Denbighshire County Association of Teachers has been called for the 27th inst., and will be held at Denbigh. DEATH AND FUNERAL OF MR HUGH DEW. lo is with deep regret that we recoid the death of Mr Hugia Dew, of New-road, Castle- hill, Denbigh. The deceased, who was 71 I years of age, died on Saturday morning. He was a well-known respected tradesman in the town, and for a greab number of years kept a boot shop in Bridge-street, The funeral took place at Whitchurch on Tuesday, and was strictly private. The Rev David Thomas, curate, officiated a1) the house, church, and graveside. Considerable recovasion is being carried out to the exterior of the Church House, Vale- street, particularly the upper portion, where the cornioes, &c, are weather worn. H is receiving full attention under the supervision of Mr James Hughes, architect. LITERARY AND SOCIAL SOCIETY'S PICNIC. The 12tih annual pionic of the above Sooiety was held on Thursday, at Glyn Arthur, the residence of Mr Rowley William?. They were driven in brakei via Bodfari along side of the hills to the Glyn. Tea was prepared in the park by the committee ot ladies. After tea most of the visitors climbed to the summit of Moel Arthur and enjoyed the view so far as the visit would permit; they visited the old Roman road and the Roman camp on the mountain. The lake and waterfalls were explored. The drive home was through Ruthin. The day's oubing was very much enjoyed and a great success. BRAKESMAN'S SERIOUS ACCIDENT. Whilst engaged in shunting operations in the early hours of Friday morning, Albert Edward Atkins (a nativo of Denbigh), a brakesman in the employ of the L and N W Railway (Jom- pany, and residing in St* Margaret's-road, Llandudno Junction, met with a serious ac- cident, and the gravest fears are entertaiued as to the ultimate result. He was standing on the step of the engine, and some waggons had juso been shunted into a siding. The engine polled away, and 'was running along the the line paralled to that on which the waggons stood, and when crossing th<3 points Atkins was struck by the waggons* and severely crushed. He was carried to Dr Jones' surgery in an un- eonsclous condition. His thighs were bad;y mutilated, and there are internel injuries. He was reported to ba in a very precarious condition. TECHNICAL AND EVENING CONTINUATION SCHOOLS. A meeting of the above was held on Wednes- day evening. There were present, Miss Gee, Messrs J R Owen, R Henry Roberte, Foxhall Dr Lloyd (representing the County Council), Mr R D Hughes, Plas Chambers; Mr Dryhurst Rcbarts, Rov D E Jenkins, and the Mayor re- presenting the Town Council, An apology for ab3ence wis received from the ex-Mayor tair Cottom). The Mayor was elected chairman and Mr Roberts, Foxhall vice-chairman of the Joinb Cjmmibbee, and Mc D E Humphreys Rcbarta was elected rleik. It was recom- manded that the County Council become teients, and this Committee be sub-tenants of the Technical Schools The arrangements for olasses for the coming session was deferred to a future Committee, but in the meantime in- qairies be made from the Head Teachers as to what classes where likely to be required. The Green was in floe trim, and reflected great credit on the g enr-dsman. Play commenced at 10 30, and u, p to luncheon very few pointe divided the teams, but afterwards Flintshire began to pull ahead, until the last three or four gamee, which reduced their maj)rity to 19 Ltsncbeon was served at the Castle Hotel, and, needless to say, the well known cater- ing of that establishment was tested to the ful), and gave entire satisfaction. Death of Mr. T. J. Williams, J.P. We much regret to record the death of Mr T J Williams, J P., formerly of Denbigh, which took place this morning (Friday) at his residence, Cae Derw, Colwyn Bay, where he and Mrs Williams have re&ided since his retirement from business at Denbigh. The death was due to heart failure. He had been suffering from a serious form of beirt dieease for some months, and the end was, therefore, not unexpected by his medical attendants. Most highly esteemed in all circles in Denbigh, whtra for some forty years he took a prominent part in the business, social, municipal end religious jife of the community, his death will be sincerely regretted, and the deepest sympathy will go out from all claspes to Mrs T J Williams in her great sorrow. Our memoir, with the report of the funeral, will appear in next week's Free Press.
Death of Mrs William Ellis.
Death of Mrs William Ellis. It is with great regret that we record the death of Mrs Elizabeth Ellis, wife of Mr William E!li- wheelwright, Panton- villas, of this town, which took place on Sunday morning last at the age of 40 year, after a long and painful illness. Mrs Ellis was the daughter of the late Mr John Hughes, Ty'allidiart, Nantglyn. She was a faithful member of the C.M. Seion Chapel, Henllan-street, where she will be greatly missed. She leaves a husband, two sons, and six daughters to mourn the loss of a faithful wife and a good mother, and many other relatives and friends. The interment took place on Thursday afternoon at the Cemetery. The Plcturedromoa The usual performances were given at the Pictnredrome during the week, and the films shewn excited much interest* Daring the hot summer evenings the plaoe is cooled by electric fans, aud is most comfortable. To-night (Friday) and Saturday the pictures, "Lord of the Air and "Through the Sluice Gates," should not be missed, as they are moat interesting and exciting. The programme for the comiag week will include "The Corse of War," which Is a remarkably fine war film, and Rival In the Dark," which is a desperate love affair.
