WOMEN'S CO-OPERATIVE GUILD. —The first ramble in connection with the above Guild took place on Tuesday week. A good number turned up. and'a very happy time was spent at Cross Bychari, Llwydcoed, where the members had tea. and afterwards indulged in games. DEATH OF AN OLD INHABITANT. —The funeral of an old Aberdarian, in the person of the late Mr. John Jones, of 4, Dare-court, took place on Wednesday of last week. Deceased, who was 79 years of age, had been a resident of Aberdare for over 60 years. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. K. O. Carter, while the bearers were Messrs. J. Holding, Fred Tree, Samuel Pritchard. and Condon. The mourners were Mrs. Jones, Mrs. J Jones, Mrs. Morris, Miss H. Morris and Mrs. Pritchard. OUTING.-The Highland-place Church Choir outing took place last Thursday to Weston, and a good number made the journey. The trip across the channel was keenly enjoyed, as was the remainder of the day's events. The party were enter- tained to lunch and tea at George's Ke- f>taurant, through the kindness of Mr. L. N. Williams, J.P., and Mr. and Mrs. E. Jones, Teilo House, Aberdare. A hearty vote of thanks v/as acorded Mr. Williams for the lunch, and a similar compliment iwas paid to Mr. and Mrs. J cues for the tea. CO-OPERATIVE.—A meeting of the members of the Aberdare and Trecynon Co-operative Society was held in the Memorial Hall on Friday evening. Mr. G. H. Protheroe, the president of the society, occupied the chair, and was sup- ported by the committee of management and Mr. Aneurin Davies (secretary). The meeting was held for the purpose of al- tering certain rules. so as to comply with the new Industrial and Provident So- cieties Act. The new rules were thorough- ly discussed, and with few exceptions, the recommendations of the committee were accepted. MINISTERIAL.—The many friends of the Rev. Leslie R. Winter, the popular junior minister of the English Wesleyan Church (Aberdare circuit), residing at Mountain Ash, will be glad to IIPar of his convalescence. He is now resting with friends in East Anglia. The quar- terly meeting of circuit leaders and lay preachers held recently at Abercynon ex- pressed regret that such a promising ear- -eer should be arrested by illness, and it was unanimously decided to continue his (■stipend to the end of the connexional year. A "supply" has been sent to the ,circuit in. the person of the Rev. Roland Priestley, of Richmond Coll GOOD TEMPLARY.—The Pride of Aberdare Lodge, I.O.G.T., mustered well on Friday last, which betokens a re- vival of Good Templary in the district. Bro. Morgan Parr. THE INTERMENT of the late Mr. John Edwards, 62, Greenfield-street, Abercynon, took place on June 23, Jit Aberdare Cemetery. At St. Mary's Church, Aberdare, at which place de- ceased had formerly been a most faithful member of the choir, a service was con- ducted bv the Rev. 1). J. Rowland, B.A. Aberdare. and the Rev. 1). Kllis Jones, vicar of Abercynon. The bearers were six former fellow-choristers of deceased. The last portion of the burial service was conducted at the graveside by the above named clergy, and the Rev. J. E. Jones. M.A., curate of Abercynon. Very appropriate hymns were sung in the ■church and at the graveside. The prin- cipal mourners were: Mr. and Mrs. 1). T. Edwards (brother), YiiyybiN-i; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Griffiths, Abercynon (sis- ter and brother-in-law); Mr. and Airs. T. Thomas, Aberdare (sister and brother-in- law); Nir. and Mrs. Griffiths Aberdare (aunt); Mr. and Mrs. T. Williams (aunt). vii Glynneath; and Winnie and Evelyn (nieces), and cousins from Aberdare and Glynneath. The deceased was held in high esteem both in Abercynon and Aber- dare. A very large number of floral tri- butes had been received, including a wreath given by a few of his many friends in Abercynon. Mr. Edwards was a loyal and devoted son of the church. He was also a member of the Bristol and West of England Society (Abercynon No. 2. lodge). His lodge was represented at the funeral by Messrs. Geo. Howes and J. Richards, Abercynon. Mr. John Hughes (Aber- cynon) represented the C.E.M.S. C.E. UNION.—The Aberdare Valley Christian Endeavour Union held their first open meeting at the Primitive Meth- odist Chapel, on Friday evening..Most of the Christian Endeavour Societies in the valley were represented. Mr. F.. Whittock presided. Prayer was offered by Mr. Longman. Mountain Ash. A solo was rendered by \fr. E. C. Gamble, Aber- aman. Mr. 'P. A. James (Carmel) read from John x. A stirring address was de- livered by the Rev. E. C. Gamble (Beu- C. lah), Aberaman, on "Christian Endeav- our and the Christian Union of to-dav." He remarked that the demands upon the Christian Endeavour now were greater than in the days of its founder. The problems of life were greater, and the call for pleasure was more pronounced. There was not. a better movement in the Christian Church to-day than the C.E. It had not failed in its purpose, and it would fill up the void that the churches feared, but failed to fill. Where the movement had declined, in many cases that could be traced to a decline in church membership, and also to anti- pathy shown by ministers and officers of the The C.E. was adaptable to the legitimate requirements of the day. Uuion ism was the spirit of the age. Isol- ation was out of date.—Mr. G. Whittock gave all address on "The power of the C.E. movement." He commended the ntotto of the late Earl of Shaftesbury, I love, I sei-ve," as a suitable one for C.B. members. There was a scope for the energies of young people in the church of .to-day.-Tliere was a free discussion on the addresses, the following taking part: Messrs. Longman, T. A. James and L. Hardinge (Aberaman).—Much regret was felt at the announcement that. the Rev. J. Whittock and family are shortly leav- ing the town. Their good work and in- terest in Christian effort will be greatly missed. It was a most stimulative meet- ing. and should prove an impetus to the C.E. movement in Aberdare and district.

Kent; (secretary), and David Thomas. Air. AL R. David, Garth, Abernant, who wrote regretting his inability to attend, had sent a substantial donation. A delicious cake had also been presented bv a friend of the club. Air. J. H. Jones, secretary of the Aberaman Athletic, was unable to attend owing to illness, and a vote of sympathy with him was passed. The chairman congratulated the club on holding such good positions with its two teams in their respective leagues. This was the first year to run two teams. He also touched upon the loyalty of the players, committee, supporters, and the president. Air. M. Goldstone, and paid a compliment to the secretary.
