THE SITUATION IN THE MEIITHYR BOROUGH. THE situation in the Merthyr' and Aberdare Borough is becoming interesting. Cardiff has wooed and won our senior member, Mr D. A. Thomas, and the important question now is, who will be the Borough's new love ? Some- one may ask, I- NVhat about Mr Pritchard Morgan ?" Well, our eistwhile member has been here, feeling the pulse of the constituency, but whether he has any intentions is not yet known, But apparently he does not find favour with the leaders of official Liberalism. I At any rate his name has not been put forward as an eligible Liberal candidate in lieu of Mr I). A. Thomas. Sir S. T. Evans's name has been mentioned, but in all probability he will rather bear the ills he knows than fly to others that he knows noc of. In other words, rather than undertake the risk of a. safe seat from home he will stick to the unsafe one at home. Liberalism is, however, at last girding its loins, and is now work- ing might and main, organising the Borough on both sides of the mountain. In the meantime what are the Lab- ourites and Conservatives doing ? Mr Keir Hardie will probably stand again, and if so there will be doubtless a safe seat" for him. But now that Mr Thomas is no longer in the field, • will another Labour candidate be run in order to endeavour to capture both seats for the Labour Party ? The Con- servatives are jqst now lying low. It is not certain whether Mr Fox Davies will continue his campaign or not, but assuming that he will retire we shall without a doubt, have a Conservative candidate in the field. What about Captain Gray ?
