THE SOUTH WALES ANTHRA- CrrE COAL DISTRICT. A correspondent writes that some apprehen- sions of a serious character respecting the rela- tionship between the colliery owners and their workmen in the anthracite district is caused by the reluctance of several of the employers to concede to the workmen the last five per cent ad- vance given by the employers of Glamorganshire. I am informed that the employees are about to convene a meeting to consider what steps to take in the event of the employers refusing to grant the advance and also consent to adopt the agreements by which the wages at all the col- lieries will henceforth by regulated, under the sliding-seale newly arranged between the colliery owners of Monmouthshire and South Wales and their workmen. The Tyilwyd and Dynevor Colliery is, and has been, idle for the last three weeks. The workmen have not yet been paid their wages. The manager has been absent from the district during the whole time.
