ONE FROM OLD BRIDGEND WRITES: — "It is impossible for me to express my feeling of gratitude to you. If equally suc- cessful in dealing with all your cases, no surprise could be felt at the success which attended your visit." TWINS UPSET AN ORDER OF THE COURT. An application for the discharge of a main- tenance order made a*ainst John Edwards' by hi3 wife, Elizabeth Edwards, now resid- ing at Llantrisant, was made by Mr. D. Eees, acting on behalf of the husband, at Ponty- pridd Police-court on Wednesday on the ground that Mrs. Edwards had committed misconduct. Mr. Rees explained that subsequent to the order being granted and the parties-who were a young married oouple-had lived apart, the wife had given birth to twins in respect of which she had obtained an order against a man named Hicks at Llantrisant Police-court. Formal evidence as to the order made having been given by the magistrates'-clerk (Major J. S. Davies), Mr. A. T. James, who appeared for the wife, remarked that under the circumstances he could not resist the application, and he only ap<peared for the wife in rcspoct of arrears due from the hus- band, and these had now been paid up. CAERWENT EXPLORATION. TWO HUNDRED OLD ROMAN COINS DISCOVERED. There were found on Friday in the excava- tion of the old Roman. city of Caerwent, in Monmouthshire, a coupLe of hundred of small Roman coins, belonging1 to tha Hoiniorius and Ajroadius periods. Amongst very recent remains which have been excavated axe a.lBO a piece of pewterr, which had been found in a weIJ, aJid which had on it a very pret.ty tracing, incl-nom^f a cross, which is euppoeed to be Christen. It dated back to the fourth 00DltUTY.. A buckle whioh has alao be.em found was deolared by Mr. Clement Reed, of the British Museum, to be of the Saxon period. This is the first article of Saxon origin which has been discovered in the town, and some doubt has ariseni as to bow- it came there. There is, however, a. suggestion that it mig'h.t have belonged to a Saxon pirate who left his sword behind. Several of these matters were discussed at the annual meeting of the Ctaerwent Explorar tion Fund held a.t the museum there, Vis- count Tredegar presiding. His lordship had contributed during the yea.r £125 to tlie work of exploration.

HEATHEN OF HAITI. THE REV. L. TON EVANS'S QUEER EXPERIENCE. The Rev. L. Ton Evans is still among the churches in Wales, speaking in behalf of the much-needed mission of the Black Republic. Speaking at Bethany, Treherbert, he said that while, at Tonypandy, Llwynypia, and 1 Olydach Yale he hau a very singular experience. In referring to the appalling need of Haiti, a brother oame forward at the close of tho service and gave an envelope, stating he had no money—not a penny for himself and wife. He had been on the sick-list and out of work. In giving the envelope he added, "God has com- manded me tQ give you this." When the missioner looked at the envelope and opened it that evening he found that it contained the man's artificial teeth. The missioner's headquarters during the time he will remain in Wales is Court House Iilantriaant, Glamorgan.

PHTHISIS INJEUJRAL WALES A meeting of the Carmarthenshire Health and General Purposes Committee was held on Tuesday, Mr. W. Davies, Rhyblyd, in the chair. Dr. R. T.. Thomas called attention to the report of the medical officer for Llany- byther, where 13 or 17 per cent. died from phthisis and 7 or 9 per cent. from other chest diseases, this being accounted for by the meteorological conditions Prevalent in the district, viz., the frequent strong winds and heavy rainfall, coupled with the expo- sure and heavy work associated with agri. cultural pursuits. The drainage of Llany. byther village was still in a deplorable state, while the water supply was frequently polluted.
