There was a large gathering. The Rev. H. Elvet Lewis, Llanelly, delivered an interesting lecture on Goronwy Ownin and his Poetry." With all his faults-tho fault that characterised Coleridge in England and Burns in Scotland—the lecturer declared that Owain was the greatest genius of the eighteenth century, and that his poetry would live as long as the Welsh language. Votes of thank", proposed by "Dyfed" and seconded by Cynonfardd," brought the meeting to a close. DBOW.NISG FATALITY.—Daniel Walters, about 22 years of nge, who had only recently joined the Highlaud Prince as third engineer, and William Robert Apley, 8, Harpur-slrtef, were walking along the quay on the north side of the Roath Dock on Thursday night, when the former suddenly missed his footing and fell into tie water. Grappling operations were at once commenced by the police, and continued through the nigh', but it was not until Friday morning that the body was recovered by Constables Hanley and Duucan Munro. Deceased is supposed to be a native of SWANSEA. SCALDING ACClDENT.-An infant, firteen months old, daughter of Mr. Curl is, 21, lioland -street, was admitted to the Cardiff Infirmary on Friday suffering from severe scalds to the ftce and chest. The child was attended to by the house surgeon, and was detained at the institution in a critical condition. Police-constabh s Evan-s an 1 Wheeler, who were on duty in the npi«hl''GUi'hood, entered the premises and found the bdd clothes in a back room in flames and the occupiers of the «part.ment—Emmanuel Jenkins and his wifo, both 72 years of age—in a prostrate condition. The constables at once removed tbo aged couple to a purer atmosphere, nnd when they had rcc >vered they were handed over to the care of Mr. Halfyurd The fire in the meantime was extinguished with a couple of buckets of wllt"r before much damage was donp. ACCIDENT.—On Saturdity evening Jane R gaD, 87, residing «t 44, Elm-street, Roath, was admitted into the infirmary suffering from injuries to her shoulder, sustained by a f,ill in the street. She was attended to by the house surgeon, and was detained in the institution. ACCIDI'NT.—On Monday Evan Rees, a carpenter, residing at 53, Harriet-street, wan at work on a scaffold at Mr. Vaughan's dye works, wilen lie fell and fractured his right thigh. Rees wis taken to the Cardiff Infirmary, where lie was attended to by Dr. Mnreland. BRIDGEND. NURSING ASSOCIATION.—The annual, meeting of the subsciibers to the above association was held lit the Town-hall on Friday afternoon, under the pre- sidencf of Colonel Turhervill. The following officers were re-elected President, Colonel lur- bervill; treasurer, Mr. T. G. Smith; and hon. sec- retary, Mr. T. J. Hughes. The balance-sheet for the past year showed a balance in favour of the association of £ 20 11s. 7d. The reports of thn work done during the year referred in high terms to the conscientious and skilful manner in which Nurse Grace Bennett had performed her duties. The report of the health committee showed a favourable balance of X43 4s. 9d. Letters were read from Dr. Naunton Davies and Dr. A. Hood suggesting certain modi- fications in the rules, and the same were referred to the general committee for their consideration. On the motion of the Rev. F. W. Edmondes, seconded by Mr. A. J. Williams, M.P., the following resolution was carried :—"That tins meeting is of opinion that the establishment of a cottige hospi- tal for Bridgend and district would be of grout public benefit, and hereby expresses its readiness to forward such a scheme when duly formulated." WOMEN'S LIBERAL FEDERATION,—On Thursday evening a meeting was held at the Town-ball for the purpose of forming a Women's Liberal Associa tion at Bridgend. Mrs. A. J. Williams presided, and Mrs. Morgan-Browne, Mr. A. J. Williams, M P., and Mr. T. J. Hughes addressed the meeting. Several ladies present subscribed themselves as willing to form such an association.

Morgan, through indisposition, the chair was taken by Mr. W. B. Lewis. The adjudicator in music was Mr. J. R. Lewis. A.C.. Carmarthen literary, &c., Mr. D. C. Evans, schoolmaster, the pianist being Miss Jamer, Kieff House. Capel Mair Juvenile Choir won the prizi on "Dewrion Filwyr lesu," and Seion Choir on the chief choral competition, the piece being "Teyrnasa lesu Mawr." The secretary was Mr. W. L. PhiUips, Black Lton, and the treasurer Mr. J, Thomas, Foxhole.
