The Governing Council (exclusive of the General Manager) will be appointed by the Shareholders this course being considered more satisfactory than that usually adopted by Founders of Joint-Stock Com- panies, who generally appoint their friends to fill similar positions of emolument. *#* As this Company is being established upon a thoroughly bona-fide basis, no Promotion Money whatever will be paid, no Free Shares will be given to anyone, and further, no Brokerage or Commission will be allowed to any person taking or placing Shares. The NATIONAL COFFEE PALACE COMPANY is duly Incorporated (with limited liability), pusuant to Act of Parliament, for the pupose of establishing and conducting, in London and Suburbs, and in a number of the towns of England and Wales, COFFEE AND REFRESHMENT HOUSES, in which no Intoxica- ting Liquors shall be sold, and where people may meet for social enjoyment and relaxation, without being exposed to the temptations very frequently connected with the sale of Intoxicating Liquors. The Company is being established on a purely com- mercial basis, and the Shares are offered to the public at large. It is also intended that the business of the Coffee Houses shall be carried on for the benefit of the public generally, and not in the interest of any particular section of society, or any particular body or party, either religious or political. In London, Liverpool, Manchester, *Poole, Leeds, Hull, Macclesfield, Cheltenham, Burton-on-Trent, Bury, Bolton, Glossop, Exeter, Doncaster, Marl- borough, Bangor, Pontefract, Stockport, Wakefield, Newbury, Ripon, Stafford, Rhyl, Aberystwyth, &c., companies have been established with a similar object, and it is well known that the profits realized (upwards of 10 per cent. dividend having been paid) are most gratifying and encouraging to the pro- prietors. This project is submitted to the public in the expectation that it will be a success both morally and commercially. As one of the principal objects of the movement is to counteract the evil of drunkenness and the bane- ful influence of the publichouse, every care will be taken in the selection of managers and helpers of good moral character and sound temperance princi- ples, as well as of undoubted business aptitude. His Grace the Duke of Westminster "heartily sympathises with the Coffee Tavern movement, and is of opinion that the more places of this kind are established on a sound basis all over the Country the better it will be for the cause of Temperance." Miss Florence Nightingale writes to the Duke God speed with all my heart to your COFFEE PUBLIC HOUSE ASSOCIATION." The Medical Times and Gazette says:—The Coffee Taverns movement practically deals with a gigantic vice, and its rapid extension and success throughout the kingdom are undeniably satisfactory." The Coffee Tavern movement has met with the approbation of:—His Grace the Duke of Westminster, K.G.; the Right Hon. the Earl of Shaftesbury, K.G.; the Right Hon. the Earl of Harrowby, K.G.; the Right Hon. the Earl Cowper, KG.; the Right Hon. the Earl of Ducie, His Grace the Lord Archbishop of York, the Right Rev. the Lord Bishop of Exeter, the Right Rev. the Lord Bishop of Rochester; the Right Hon. the Earl of Devon Lord Cottesloe Lord Ebury; Lord Win- marleigh; Lord Richard Grosvenor, M.P.; Lord Aberdare; the Right Hon. Forster, M.P.; Sir Charles Trevelyan, Bart., K.C.B.; Sir H. Holland, Bart., M.P.; A. Brown, Esq., M.P.; Alderman McArthur, M.P.; Alexander McArthur, Esq., M.P.; A. Mills, Esq., M.P.; S. Morley, Esq., M.P.; H. P. Praed, Esq., M.P.: Ernest Noel, Esq., M.P.; C. H. Wilson, Esq., M.P., &c., &c., &c. Any Shareholder desirous of offering himself for election on the Governing Council, or on either of the Committees in the provinces, should forward to the office an intimation to that effect in writing. The Company is duly Incorporated with limited liability, whereby Shareholders on paying up the .£1 per Share do not incur any further liability. An urgent appeal is made to all well-wishers of this cause, hoping that substantial aid will be given by taking Shares. In fairness to Applicants the Shares will be allotted in the order in which the applications are received, i Prospectuses and Forms of Application for Shares may be obtained at the Registered Office of the Com- pany, or, application for Shares may be made in writing, in the following manner, viz.:— TO THE NATIONAL COFFEE PALACE COMPANY, LIMITED, 80, Bishopsgate Street Within, London, E.C.
