CARMARTHENSHIRE. i
CARMARTHENSHIRE. Mr. D. Morris's name is not in the list of the minority who voted for Mr. S. Crawford's motion; it is in that on Mr. Buyer's amendment against the second n'ading of the Income Tax Bi!L On Tuesday morning, a number of persons attended en the Quay to wnness the departure of our steame: the Turridgc, for the first trip from this phiee. The pries of fresh butter in Carmarthen ought to be quoted by the lawful pound of IS ounces. Eighteen pence was last week stated as the price, but this was the V Dee of two pound!. We arc tufonned that a parson bus been carrying about-! a memorial, or requisition of some 'ort, tor sig-u:J.ture, wit!! Oi the nature °'thts paper for which signatures are sought, we kn(Av Nothing but from hearsay, never having seen it. The end "OUght to be attained seems to be a good one; but of the "Mans for its accomplishment we, and we suppose many Others, are left to conjecture. It is reaHy a pity people, Well-M eanillg people too, don't know how to give eilect to their wishes. EMIGRATloN.-The Bridgd FtMMt'M sailed from this Port to-day with upwards of 200 emigrants for New York Many of the smaH farmers, as well as the labourer' wojid, no doubt emigrate, but from their inability to procure the means of doing :o,—they are so wretchedly poor. A farmer named Benjamin PhiHpps, of Dolewarth, in the parish of Abergwiify, who has nine children, one amongst the number of desiring emigrants, last Saturday, in the presence of some other farmers, said, that he would not remain in Wales to drag on a miserable existence, if hf could set! otT his stock; adding, that if any one wo'-tid K've him a certain sum, which he named, for it, he wou)d °< o<f at once, with his wife and children. After the Msual delay and hiding about price, another farmer, David Griffiths by name, of the parish ot Lhuigunnock, bouTht farmer Phitipps's stock. &c., giving him at the !!&me time a deposit. The unexpected htteUigencecon- Veyc,i by the father to his fanaily, plunged them in grief; but he was of firm resolve, and go they all must said he. There is. however, many a slip between the cup and the lip, for Griniths, on second thoughts, cried off, refused to fatify the bargain he made, and in spitp of Phllipps's Threats and remonstrances, did actually get off on Mon- day from the bargain he made on Saturday. Forty thousand emigrants were sent out to New South Wales last year, at a cost to the Colonial Government of JC9W,000. 'In future the average number of emigrants to that colony is to be limited to 10,000, and to Van D'eman'tt Land !,MO. PROvtS!ONs,—Butter is 3d. to 4-d. per lb. tower than it Was last month. The very best fresh butter soid in Laugharne market last Friday at 8d. in the morning, and 10 the evening tower prices were taken. Eggs sold there 36 <br a shi!iing; mutton. 6d. per tb.; !amb, 7d. per do., other provisions equaUy low. How TO AVOtD A NutSANCE.—Last Saturday, as Sir John Mansen was passing through Carmarthen, Ms attention, as that of everybody else is everyday, was most disagreeably directed: to about as disgusting a nuisance as disgraces any town in the world that has emerged from barbarism. We allude to the practice of emptying in the public thoroughfares—snii cinders, manure, and every lund of indescribable n)th. The nuisance is inexcusable on any ground of necessity; as ncthing can be simpler than the means for its avoidance. A du&tman does the work in London without annoyance to anybody. His cart stands at tlic door of the house from which he re- moves the rubbish, and into that cart he empties the contents of the basket he had previousjy nUcd. Two Men in this way win in a few minutes do the vork— neatty too, and <o half the time occupied by the people 'n Carmarthen. The nuisance ought to be abated; the taiant of getting ria of it are simple; and those foes to im- provement and triends to njth, who persist in practising it, ought to be taught better. Perhaps the municipd *Uthoritiea may enact something pena! to teach the StIcklers for the MorM 'majorum. eorum that the decencies taust not be de6ed. ANOTHER NutSANC£-A$ if the unnnishcd state of the Picton Monument were not bad enough, the biH- tttckershave bcdaubed it with bi)ls. Such too is the activity of these men of paete. that even the Church- giktes themselves are placarded all over with bills, and on approaching Saint David't for the purpose of public worshIp. the eye Is shocked by what is little short of a desecration of the sacred ediSce. The Goth's hand is on the monument, and the Inndet'? indifference might be 1nferredfrom the desecration of the Church.gates. The ''ne is an oftence to good taste; the other a shock to our religious feelings. To both a corrective ought to be iftla.tly applied. A day or two ago, as a gentleman was proceeding through the town, A bull dog rushed out and Mttened on his thigh j and we are informed that thtre arc at present Mveral savage doga at large. SHOCKtXC MUKDER AT MERfHYR TYDV!L.—Mf:R- THYR, April 24.-Tliis town was thrown into a state of! the greatest excitement yesterday by the discovery of a murder committed or; the body of T.nnar Edwards, an old woman upwards of 70 years of age, and what added to the excitement was, the circumstance that the sus- pected murderer is her own son, who has absconded. It appears that the old woman, with her son and his wife, resided ai) together in a wretched hovel near the tram road in Plymouth-street. The old woman had been missed by the neighbours for severat days, andT)er son accounted for her absence by saying she was gohe into the country a few milt's. On Saturday morning, on h-avjng the house to go to as he' told hi:, wife, for his money, he cautioned her not to look underneath the bed. This excited the wife's curiosity, and she coutd not retrain from talking about it amongst bee neighbours. In the course of the morning two of them determined to satisfy their curiosity, and accordingty they went to the bed and were horror-struck on lifting up the foot vaiiancc to find the body of the old woman wrapped up in a sheet. They immediately rdised an atarm, and inspector Davis was soon on the spot Suspicion immediately fcii on the son, Richard Edwards, and the police are now in active pursuit of him. The Coroner, P.
