GUARDIANS' PREDICAMjENT. Ravine been advi&ed by tiie Eoc-a-1 Go- vernment Board auditor that they were not entitled to give out-door relief to persons residing with relatives where it was proved that the total income of the h, u^eao'd was adequate to maintain the who'e, the Carnar- von Board of Guardians appointed a special committee to draft rules to govern the ad- ministration of out-relief, and these were submitted to the Boaixt's meeting on Satur- day. These rule- were discussed at length, especial emphasis being placed on a rule ■which stated that out-relief was not to be given to a person residing with relations v.-here the average earninlgs of the family should have been five shillings or more per head per week for the past year, or where the total average earnings amounted to 24s per week. The Chairman (Mr J. E, Williams) having iformlallv moved the adoption of the rules. Mr Henry Parry, Pbntrug, complained of the arbitrary action of the Local Govern- ment Board f and thought the Guardians "would have done much wiser if they had divested- themselves of their responsibility -justf a<? the 'Holywell Guardians had done. The authorities" would' then have been obliged to surrender. H.e was not prepared ,L- to adimit for a momeJlt that the Guardians had been remiss in the administration of relief in the past. or if they had erred they had erred on the right side. Mr T. J. Lloyd. Llanrug, objected to the rule, as it would put women in a most awkward position in many cases. Once their relief was stopped they would be sitting at the son-in-law's table by sufferance, and be exposed to his sullen looks (hear. hear). 'The rule was not part of the consolidated oider, and it could not be in force in other Union", otherwise a case reported to him, in which a woman received relief while h?r son-in-law earned from 30s to 358 weekly. and was the owner of two houses, could not possibly have been allowed. The Clerk (Mr J. Henry Thomas instruc- ted that the Guardians should strengthen their position considerably by adopting the rule in question. By a maiority it was resolved to reject the Tiilers in a body.

The visitors won the toss, but the wind ■favoured neither team. The home side practically had the game in their own hands during the first half, and pressed persis tently, the visitors making an occasional spasmodic incursion into the Llanrwst territory. Bob Williams experienced several narrow escapes, and cleared brilliantly. » » » During the second half, the Roosters con- tinued to press until at last Richards re- reiving a well-judged centre from W. T. Jcnes scored. From this to the end, play was of an even character, and eventually, the game resultede in a victory for Llanrwst by one goal to nil.

CONWAY V. COLWYN BAY. These teams met at Conway in a heavy gale of wind, which rendered good play absolutely impossible. Conway won the toss, and the visitors faced the wind. The home side did most of the pressing, and after twenty minutes' play Tom Morgan concluded a movement, initiated by S. Parry and Davies, by crash- ing the ball into the net- with a swift ground shot. For the remainder of the first half. Colwyn Bay kept their goal intact. The wind had increased considerably in force by the time of play was resumed in the second half, and rain also added to the discomfort of players and spectators. Con- way played a purely defensive game, and kept the ball out as much as possible, very Reldom attempting to attack. Conway succeeded in maintaining the-ir lead until 1 the close of the game. Final. LLANBERIS V. BANGOR RESERVE. At Llanberis on Saturday afternoon, Bangor Reserves were the visitors in a League fixture. The weather was so un- favourable that it was decided to play only forty minutes each way. w. U. Thomas received the ball, and ran up towards the visitor^1 goal, but Bob Davies gained possession, and placed Dick Owen in a good position, and the latter scored. Bangoy iagain assumed the ag- (giessive, Bob Davies attempting a shot at goal, which O. J. Owen saved. Lloyd Hughes gained possession, and passed to W. R. League wrere engaged in search of points on Saturday, with the exception of Carnarvon. The Biangor 'Varsity eleven resumed their I fixtures and: journeyed to Holy-head to play I (tAle local Swifts. Much interest was taken in the fixlture, but the weather was miser- ( able, and an interesting matich lost nearly f all its interest. The game was abandoned in the second half, when the students were .icadinig by the only goal of the match.. The students are fightinig well for the Leagtue championship. When this match is played championship. When this match is played over again we shall see some very exciting ifioo-tball. The teams are very evenly matched. ♦ • iRangoi journeyed to Llanberis, and the game neie again had to be albandoned with Bangor leading by one goaii.—Conway ac- counted for Colwyn Bay by the only goal of the match, although tihe Bayites are now showing improve form. — Llanrwst are again at the top of the League table, as they won against. Pwllheli on Saturday, the hom-esters securing the only goal of the match. Llanrwst have now played nearly all their home fixtures, and will now have to fighlt hard in -their away matches to keep their lead.—Aft Ffeslt-iniOg the quarrymen inflicted on Lland-udno the heaviest defeat of th* day, 5-1. The homesters are very diffi- cuilt to belait on their own ground. As we said' before, Carnarvon were out of it on Sfeitmrday, but mean to make a keen fight for Leaigue honours. We think thai the flight for honours will rest with Ban- | gcr 'Varsity and Carnarvon. Carnarvon s position on the League table is extremely creditable, as they have played nearly all their matches away. Their* Reserves on Saturday met Glasinfryn, and the match was abandoned:, GJlaanfryn leading by two goals to one.—-Menai Bridge journeyed to Llan- dudmo, and had to acknowledge defeat from the local Reserves by two clear goals. Llan- dudno Reserves are a powerful team, re- inforced as they are by one of the old p",avers. The draw for the 3rd' Round of the Welsh I Amiaiteur Otip is of some interest to Coast clubs. Holyhead Swiflt-s journey to Ban- gor and a close game should ensue. Car- narvlon have again been unlucky in the draw, and have to travel to Llandudno. In all their Welsh Amateur fixtures last year Carnarvon ontly came out of the hrut first once, and yet they won tlhe cup. In all their Welsh Senior ties this year-they were again drawn away, and they start so aga-in with the Welsh Amateur ties. Such is the luck of the draw, but we fed confident of 'Carnarvon's ability to pass on to the next round desipdte havinjg to travel to Llan- dudno. 0 The following teams were chosen to take part in the Ahnatieur Association trial match at Wrexham on January 3J.: Whites: Goodrwin (Druids); Hwfa Wil- liams Pryce Evans (Towyn) W. Williams (Rh'vl), Etamer (Llanidloes) and Glyn Jones (Wrexham): Charles (Druids), S. Jones (Druids), Hughae Davies (Biangor), Hughes (Whitchurch), and Arnold Diargie (Bangor). Stripes: Efoulkes (Rhos) Jeff Jones (Lia.ndrindod), J. Morris (Welshpool) R,. Davies (Stafford), W. T. Jones (Holyhead), G. Evans (Llanidloes). R. M. Evans (Den- bigh), Hughie Owen (Bangor), Harry Jones ) (Towyn), A. Evans (Llanidloes), and H. Thomas (Summerhill). it wit'l be seen that five coast players have been honoured, four from Bangor and one from Holyhead, j » • W. T. Jones, of Holyhead, has received a long-delayed recognition at the hands of the Welsh Association, for he has been for many yeans one of the best half-backs in North Wales. Efe ought to have received his Amateur Cap last year. I Candidly, we must say that the Welsh Association have not dealit fairly with the othei League teams. Why select four from Brugor and leave all the other teams out in the cold ? Why ignore the present Welsh Amateur champions by nclt- giving them a single representative? Carnarvon gave Ba.n- gor their quietus from the Welsh Amateur Cup last year by thrie, gotals to orie with the four honoured (?) players appearing against them. But we must remember that the spirit of the selectors is thoroughly ;n keep- ing with their conduct towards Carnarvon all last year, i.e., the Aberystwyth, fiasco, when Cemarvoai won such a notable triumph for justice and fair play. Hugihie Owen and Hiughie Davies, espf cially the former, have wen their places by con- sistent play, b.u!t we challenge anyone to prove that the form shown by Hwfa Wii- Jiams and Diargie during the present season justifies the Welsh Association giving them a place in the trial match. » We could proceed still further, for we consider eitliew A. E. Owen ('Varsity) or W. G. Williams (Menai Bridge), or Tom Jones (Conway) far superior to Hwfa Williams. Aberystwyth are ignored as well, and a team like Towyn gefbs two of its men selee- !ted, and LJlanid'loes three. This sort of selection reduces the whole thing to a big fiasco, and shows clearly that merit and consistent play will not get its recognition I without the wire-pulling of someone who is anxious to get his own men in. • • •
