11 rCrand Evening Concert
11 r Crand Evening Concert JUDGES HALL, TREALAW. Tuesday Evening, Man. 10, 1914. The undersigned desire to draw the at- tention of all lovers of high-class music to this excellent concert. Miss Laura Oliver Evans is a young j Welsh artiste, 16 years of age, whose talent as a violinist is held in the highest esteem by all who have heard her per- form. Two years ago she played for the Car- diff Cymrodorion Society, and Miss Marie Corelli, the guest of the evening, was so impressed by her wonderful performance that she undertook to assist in sending her to Professor Eberhardt, Berlin, to complete her studies, and also presented the young artiste with a fine toned violin. Her advance in technique and musical development has been so great that Pro- fessor Eberhardt writes to say that her talent is alsolute and amounts to genius, and given time to perfect her technique, she can, and will, attain :o the highest art. To enable this young Welsh genius to complete her studies abroad, the under- signed have undertaken tc organise this concert at Trealaw as a centre for the Rhonddas, feeling assured • >f warm sup- port for an object so worthy. The extracts from the German Press given on the programme fully confirm the Professor's opinion of her exceptional gifts. Subscriptions will be acknowledged and concert bookings by the joint secretaries. The follow ing are associating their names with this concert:—Mrs. W. P. Nicholas, The Garth, Trealaw; Councillor W. P. Thomas, J.P" Treorchy; Mr. William Evans, Porth; Mr. Percy Smith. Pentre Mr. David Lloyd, I.S.M., Tony- pandy Mr. Howell Howells, Treorchy; Prof. J. T. Jones, Treorchy. Chairman, Dr. T. L. Morgan treasurer, Mr. Emi ys Richards: joint secretaries, Messrs. Geo. S. Evans and John Bees, Tonypandy. The grand evening concert announced in our advertisement columns for Tuesday evening, March 10th, at the Judge's Hali, Trealaw, demand.* the attention and in- terest of all lovers of the best in music. Certainly the programme and the artistes promise the concert of the season. Miss Dilys Jones, of London, the great contralto, who scored so great a success last year in the Hen Wlad fy Nhadau" concerts, will again charm with those exquisite group of Welsh folk-songs. Mr. Ivor Foster also will give of his best and maintain his high reputation. The special feature of this concert will be the sisters, Miss Laura Oliver Evans, the wonderful 16-year-old violin virtuoso, I and Miss Constance Olwen Evans, solo pianist. Both have studied under the. best masters in Germany, and their suc- cess in the cities of that country and in Denmark has been quite remarkable. The German Press state:—"The young Laura Evans is a new star in the artistic world. The audience went into ecstacies, and six re-calls followed her Concerto. Miss Constance Evans also gave a distin- guished performance at the piano." Professor Eberhardt says that the talent of Laura. Evans amounts to genius, and she will attain to the highest art. Her repertoire embraces all the big works given by front- rank artistes, and, in the opinion of those capable of judging, she ranks with the best. It is up to our countrymen to give this young Welsh genius the support and en- couragement she so well deserves, and an overflowing house will be her reward.
